As much as still love Phil and his playing (he's always learning more and doing new things), Seeing Phil perform in concert in the 70's and 80's are the ones I cherish most. I guess it's nostalgia. He still hasn't lost anything that I can see, but at that time he was wailing at concerts and coming up with such creative songs and licks and at that time it was new to me. Always humble and real, never one to have an ego problem. He is and was a great influence on me. Such a dear brother!
I love this stuff. It is totally inspirational. I like all the melodic riffs that go together to make up the whole jammy thing.Phil is a true master and has been all along. He is both the Master's Musician and a master musician.
I love this Fernando Guitar.....To bad that he doesn't use it anymore. He was featured with it in a 1986 Guitar Player interview..... also talking about the song "Sounds" along with the different influnces in his life (Eric Johnson cover page May 1986 edition).
@gtarplyr30yrs yup I remember that edition actually. Got my first taste of EJ (with the mini record of CLiffs of Dover - Austin City Limits... AND Keaggy @ 38yo. lookin like this, a little techno and little jazz a little rock and pop all rolled into one christ following genius, I was (And AM) a BIIIIIG PK fan. Australia misses his concerts...
"I gave it to the peach because he's got hair" said to Larry Boy - notice Phil has great hair in this vid - ahh the ol days... what can I say, I came back to watch it again and again...
all i can say is that he is a genuis on the guitar.it's like he invented a totally different style of guitar playing.i know that it is fusion and techno...but i have never heard anyone that has his style.dang.
I think Phil has much in comon with Bill Nelson a lot, and then, with Jeff Beck,of course, he has developed his own gtr sound ,but well hi also reminds me to Erick Johnson to ,don´t you dudes?
Again, THANKS for posting this. Thank GOD for Beta cams - and your diligence to shoot. AWEsome old-school Keaggy classy electric shredding. Love it, and miss it.
He reminds me a little of Gary Moore. He has a well rounded affinity for soaring free. He definitely has the chops of an arranger. And likes the 80's 90's music that's evident.
and phil says he's not a shredder! Actually, he isn't. He's way too melodic and in the zone to be labeled a run of the mill shredder. Great stuff, thanks for posting this.
these guys have no idea. ignorance and arrogance. both Keaggy and Carlton are the real-deal. taste and touch. I'm going to burn my guitar after this...

@gtarplyr30yrs : that May '86 issue of GP mag must be the most read and worn-out magazine in our house. :) Eric and Phil in one issue!

Great video! Thank you for posting it! One of my very favorite songs by Phil. God surely has gifted him!

He's using a Kahler trem here. I had one put into my Les Paul Custom. Worst thing you can go to a guitar. Destroyed the sustain...
Love Phil! He has hair here!

Wow this is an oldie I heard this in a concert at Christ Church in Washington DC back around 1979 or 1980.

What the He double toothpick is a shredder?
I posted a comment on a you tube with Larry Carlton 335.I mentioned that Larry reminded me of Keaggy.
I had some angry replies that Keaggy was no comparison to Carlton. And that Keaggy was only a shredder.
