Sorry, but the Karen Young who sang this song isn't the same one as the disco singer. The one who sings "Nobody's Child" is a British singer born in 1946 and still alive today.
i heard this song when i was a child, where my mom used to listen to it. it touched my feeling and i love this song ever since. it always reminds me to be grateful coz there are many children are having a bitter life.
I'm crying, i'm one of those children, it hurts, to think of my youth. But i'm danish and proud to be a dane. Love from the lovely north. Hans Christian
Hi Mr tibbs with regards to your note about Karen Young thought you may like to update it as there are two Karen Youngs, the one singing Nobodys child is actually English and born in 1946 just outside Sheffield and i believe is still alive and living somewhere in Norfolk, she also released several other recordings from 1965 -71 but none of them gave her as much success as nobodys child
@C30turner actually there are atleast 5 Karen Young´s in showbusiness of which 3 singers: british * ( B 1946), canadian ( b 1951), american ( 1951-1991) in addition to an american actress and a likewise american author
This was a big hit for Karen back in the very late 60s. I only heard it a couple of times on the radio then went and bought the single, which I still have.
It was a hit for Karen back in the very late 60s. One version I'd never heard of before was by the late Billy Fury. I think you'll find that one here on YT as well.
i was 10yrs old,and living in a salvation army home in n.z.,when i first heard this song in "69.,thankfully,im not blind,i love utube!....and Elvis!!...and jiving,and London(julie also)music is a good home to arrive at,big family,never alone
we are so busy with our own lives that we forget the Families who are suffering. The children are often the ones left behind. I run an orphanage out of our owm pocket as it;s in an african country .we get nothing from the goverment. They are beautiful and innocent. Praise them, love them, pray for them. Blessings Rev Jack
I'm afraid you have it all wrong. The US singer Karen Young who was born in the USA in 1951 and had a 'one hit wonder' in the USA with Hot Shot is not the same person who had a hit with Nobody's Child in 1969. The UK Karen Young was born in 1946 in Sheffield and is still very much alive.
Sorry to break this to you but it is a common mistake.
Thanks for posting the lyrics to Nobody's Child (a record I actually bought when it was a hit in 1969)
i lived in a children's home from 1969-1973 after the death of my mother. i played this constantly over and over again... after some weeks the house father snatched it off the player and smashed it saying " you are... you're mine and you are loved.."
i had never heard it on the radio afterwards until one day driving down to visit his recent widow it suddenly came on out of the static as i was changing local stations... i was stunned ..even more so when as it finished the static came back on......
The Power of YouTube!! I never realised so many people were as moved by this song as I was in 1969 when I first heard Karen sing it. She produced a quite beautiful album later that year with many more wonderful songs on it, this has never been released on CD. May be some enterprising individual could retrieve the master tapes and get it out there - and add on her 1970 single 'One Tin Soldier' as a bonus.
Sorry, this is another Karen Young! The girl who sings Nobody's Child is from Sheffield England, and retired from music in1974. Not the Karen Young disco singer as described
First time I had heard it sung by a lady. My mother sang it she was a lady but not professional LOL. Any way I also like this song and have sung it. But it fricken chokes me up as I am a mental sentimental LOL... Seriously though I loved this version. She must have been a great lady.
@mrtibbs6912 "Mr Tibbs"? "Mr Muppet" more like...Sir, this is not being sung by the American singer Karen Young - this is being sung by the the English singer Karen Young. They are NOT the same person! According to Wikipedia the singer of this song was born in 1946 in Sheffield, England and was still alive as recently as 2010 ...and in all probability is still with us today.
Everyone's got a song that never fails to bring tears to their eyes, and this one's mine. The feeling's been even stronger since I saw children growing wild in India. I'd encourage everyone in the West to sponsor at least one child through one of the many charities, then we might help reduce the great ocean of misery out there.
I love this song since the day I heard it the first time, probably I was a teenager then. What a meaningful emotional song. I feel like crying and it really touches my heart. I wish I could do something to all the orphan children in this world especially the blind. I would like to know who write this song. He/she deserves an award.
Hullo Godbless210! CY COBEN and MEL FOREE wrote the song long time ago. I love this song, too. "Nobody's Child" invites people to care about orphans, a song which has a moral.
Yes, I do. This song has some kind of magic power to me. Even to people whose English is not good, this song is heard special. NOBODY'S CHILD (KAREN YOUNG) is one of the most beautiful song in the world.
very sweet song ..sing with feeling
