First, the smell is nowhere near as bad as people think. I only have one little girl ferret (going on 8 years old now!) and second, I never understood when reading ferret books when they said how they were so expensive to care for. My ferret even goes through stages because she is such a picky eater where one week she will eat only chicken flavored food, then she suddenly wants only banana treats. She is the best pet ever. She has cancer and it's taking a toll on her but she's a fighter

@kloakenskansen I have 3 ferrets livinh indoors of my own any that come into rescue. The only time we have had strong smells is from entire ferrets. Once neutered/spayed the smell goes if you keep them clean.

@Saccillia We used to have 4 to 6. Then we rescued a couple, then adopted one, then rescued one... and so on and so forth. Next thing you knew there were 18 fuzzbutts underfoot. Half were adoptions/rescues and half were bought. We're down to 13 now and somehow it seems not enough. LOL. No plans to increase the number at the moment. But our home and hearts are always open ferrets that need a home.

Do the white ferrets stick and interact more with the other fair colored ferrets? I'm not asking that to be sarcastic or a smart alek. At the end of the video the 3 white ferrets are sticking together and going for the treat and blocking the other darker ferrts that have masks. Or is it just a coincidence and they don't care about the color of the other ferrets?

@jjlinert Just a coincidence. Or it coulc be that deaf ferrets stick together. The three at teh end (Shoney, Winchell and Aegir) are all deaf and they are also huge Ferretone junkies. :)

Not as bad as you might think. They tend to go into a litter box, or close to it. We have made the job easier on ourselves by placing newspaper under and around the litter boxes. So for those times that they miss we just pick up the newspaper and lay a fresh page down.

Baths???? The more you bathe them the more they 'smell' cause you are washing away their oils and so they have to produce more. On occasion we fill up the tub and they go for a swim, but an actual bath hasnt happened in about a year. Unless you want to count me taking one into the shower with me. :)

All animals bite. With ferrets it's a part of how they play. Our ferrets don't bite... or if they do, they don't bite hard. It feels a bit like a hard pinch when they do...and again I have to stress that it is how they play together. They bite me more cause I play a bit rougher with them, they never bite my wife when she plays with them. And yes, they are nice with tons of energy. Before you get one, do your research. Look into adopting, plenty of older ferrets out there that need a loving home.

There's two ways of clipping a ferrets nails (with the use of ferretone). If you are alone you can lay the ferret on his/her back and put the ferretone on their belly to distract them. If you have a partner, one holds the ferret with one hand (wrapped around body, so that the ferret dangles down) put bit of ferreton on wrist of the free hand and while ferret licks the ferreton off of the wrist the other person clips the nails.

We have 5 ferrets (3 are here as emergency home) but our breeder on one of our ferrets have 10 ferrets atm only 3 for breed and no kits (they are called puppies here in sweden) so if she can do it can the poster of this video do it..

And why should it stink? every animal smells but about that ferrets stink is just rumors.. same whit that they are jumping from the ground and bite you in the throat as fast as they can, RUMORS! an uncastrated male ferret CAN stink when they are in heat.

Not really. There is of course a musky scent, but households that have cats are worse (IMHO). Cat litterboxes are considerably stinkier than ferrets.

No, no--we have 8 adult cats in our home, and no one ever notices ANY ODOR here!! Ferrets tend to smell up even the cleanest of homes, if you ask me. They need to invent a "Ferret Genie" toilet device for those things, but I don't know if that would help--the animals themselves tend to stink to high heaven, even if descented. Yeck, weasels. You just have to decide if your like of them overrides your dislike of the stench.

Remembering their names is not taht difficult. Run into trouble sometimes with Shoney and Aegir if I see them from a distance for a split second and have to guess at which one it was. Oh and I suppose telling Echo and Calypsoo apart is kind of tough too... darn twins. :) Yeah, they're litter trained... but there's still times when they decide to go somewhere else other than a litter box. And some are better about it than others.

Nope. Though we have more ferrets than your average pet store. The latest addition to 'The Gang' was actually given to us by the pet store because they were fearful that she would not sell as she was too 'bitey'. Turns out that she is a sweetie and hasn't bitten us once. She's deaf and got startled a lot at the store so was biting for that reason. Of the 16 we have, 6 are adopted.
