  • Hard to believe this is where it all started. My second Karate tournament at age 18...trained in TKD for 4 months obtained my green belt and was determined to be the worlds greatest fighter. If I could look forward, I would not have foreseen all the great opportunities I have to make that dream a reality. Also I think my past self would be proud. BUT I AM NOT DONE YET!!!

  • Well this was a "Open" Karate tournament.....So that means any style can participate and fight according to a few rule limitations....

  • Dont worry about the critics bro! You did well! IWin , lose , or draw we learn in each fight. II won my first fight, but I learned from it that I really needed to work on my cardio. My second fight I lost, but I learned from it what techniques I needed to work on.

  • People give me bad ratings, but listen I was 18 years old....the second guy I fought 5 minutes after the frist, and he kicked me in my acl injuried knee. That is why I was fighting so sloppy. Give me a break guys. I tried my best, but I am better than this now right?!!!

  • lol yeah since this my second tournament I fought slow against the first guy not knowing what to expect. Than gain momentum. But the second guy I thought I could use the same strategdy and ended up exhausted and my knee popped out. Also the guy I fought was fresh and this was five minutes after my first one....

  • alright, i'll tell you, in the tournament, at first, you're slow, i think you're stunt or something, then you start to fight hardly and your opponent is weakened as you hit him at the head in the first place. The second round at first you fought real hard, then finally you got tired and you fought real badly and stop dodging. i guess that's the observation i saw.

  • Good but i do have one bit comment on i noticed just before your about to kick you move your right hand, i used to do a similar thing and came across a more experienced fighter who picked up on it and owned me. But enough of that well done and keep it up.

  • it's called follow through karate doesn't stop once the attack connects so his bent leg probably would've kept going in a real fight...either way you rock man glad too see a black person into martial arts(I'm black and I plan taking Kyokushin)

  • Well done..My advise to you is to work on you combinations. It seems that you either punch in combination or Kick in combination. You need to mix it up. a good rule is to set up your hands with your feet and set up your feet with your hands. so in other words punch after you kick and kick after you punch. I have more advise I can give you but start with that. I will post a video of my own highlights that will illustrate what I mean. Let me know if it helps.

  • One of the headshot the ref should had gave you a Wazari, 1/2 point.

  • Finally certain moved work well for point sparring karate, and certain things work well in a full contact enviroments. Use the Golden Mean principle. 20 % of your training will produce 80 % of your result. In other words. Use the high percentage moved, and pratice with them, until you can pull them off over and over again

  • You need to hit the punch bags, focus mitts, and pad work. Also you need a coach to work with you to help bring out your timing, distance, and mental toughness specifically for this tournament.

  • I remember you at that karate tournament. If you live close by my school, you are more than welcome to come down and train with us.

    I don't want to get into a lot of details. But I think is the preparation you do that is the most important.

  • Well training with you soun ds like a good idea, but I am not sure how I am going to get to "Cali" ? Thats a long drive and a expensive flight ^_^
