lol Man, it's easy to laugh at this in 2012. Shit was scary as fuck though if, like Tumbipanther and I, you watched this when you were a child. I don't mind the occasional horrendous nightmares, I'm glad I watched this, Dawn, Night, Day, Braindead and Return II as a kid. Too bad most my punk friends couldn't watch this shit till they were like 20, what terrible parents.
You know, I generally find Return of the Living Dead to be rather overrated, but DAMN the zombies in it are the best! And Tar Man is one of the few zombies in cinema history who isn't just gross, but actually scary.
LOL I love it when people in horror movies are unable to haul ass away from monsters that run as fast as senior citizens. It's like she's tripping over on purpose. If some decomposing bastard was chasing you in real life you'd be matching it with Usain Bolt. Puhlease.
I love how the gang just stands there while their buddy gets his head eaten...but when he throws a paint can and tarman says "more brains" they run lololol
I know that dude... He's the jellyman... Ha ha ha... Growing up me and my bro called him the jellyman... My mom would tell us he lived inside our closet & if we didn't go to bed he would come out & eat our brains... Ha ha ha... Good times good times...
Ok, at 1:02 when tarman is getting the winch, he's slow, so why didn't the girl just run for it then, she could've run right past him and he wouldn't catch her!
I love how the Return of the Living Dead zombies can carry on a conversation and use a winch, but the Walking Dead zombies can hardly do anything. Must be the trioxin...
Went the other night to see ROTLD at Cinema Overdrive @ The Colony. It was great to see it on the big screen. This film is a blast. Really funny, with some scares as well. It was inspired by the original Romero classic, and yet it brought something new to the zombie genre. Oh yeah!... and one of the best soundtracks ever.
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Just completely horrible. Everything was wrong with this movie. The zombies were smart - just as smart as the humans, you couldn't destroy them unless you cremated every part of the body so head-shots wouldn't work, and even skeletons became zombies. I can't believe this made any best zombie movie list let alone rank high in them. Did I mention how fucking horrible this shit was?
@ihavemonkeysinmybutt This movie was one of the best sequels to come out during that particular time. Not to mention none of the RoTLD movies had any involvement from George Romero. Just because they weren't made by Romero doesn't mean that they should have all of the same weaknesses as the zombies from Dawn and Day. Showing zombies that had some form of intelligence was an ingenius way to reinvent them, especially in the case of Tarman here who has become something of a staple in these movies.
@xJackIsCoolx some form of intelligence would be acceptable. The Zombies in this movie were just as smart or even smarter than their non-infected human counterparts. Coupled with the fact that they were virtually indestructible and invincible made it by far one of the most retarded zombie movies I've ever seen. It wasn't ingenious - the movie looked like it was probably made by a high school dropout with a big movie budget. From the eyes of a Zombie aficionado this movie was fucking awful.
@ihavemonkeysinmybutt I don't recall any of the zombies being indestructable, they can be torn apart and dismembered, they just don't die like the regular Romero zombies do. And while burning them is really the only way to permanently kill them, there's the potential risk of that Trioxin gas bringing more zombies to life.
And need I remind you, these movies had nothing to do with Romero's, they referenced them sure but that's about it. So yeah, it's supposed to be something of a funny movie since it is a horror/comedy. I'll say it again, having zombies that were actually more difficult to kill is something these movies did well. It was more based around surviving rather then killing the zombies.
I can honestly say, I'm 15 years old, and watching Tarman's movements scared me a bit. The actor for tarman, congrats, you are the first zombie to actually give me the creeps!
Of all the zombies I've seen, these would be the scariest in real life. They don't die with a shot to the head, they are smart and can talk, they are so easy to make more of... if zombies were really like this, we'd be so screwed. Especially this guy, Tarman. If he's coming after you, it's just a matter of time before he eats your brains. No stopping him, no slowing him, and if you run, he'll just keep coming.
@MrSleepyweezul Agreed. These are my favorite types of zombies, atleast when they're intelligent. Romero may have began to work on the modern-day zombie, but this film definately improved the zombie to a 'z'.
This movie was even more frightening when I originally watched it on a used rental video tape on an old time big screen TV with old sound back in 1988.The movie seemed much more grimier and frightening. The tarman cannister where it showed him dissolving with the "Return of the Living Dead" red script logo scared the living daylights out of me as a kid
I think part of the reason we don't find "new" zombies that scary is because we're all too aware its just an actor shambling along in a bit of make up. They don't appear dead at all. The animatronic/heavy prosthetic zombies barely convey any human qualities, we can't relate to them, and hence we can find them horrific.
The eyes are the windows to the soul. But if the eyeballs rotted out of the sockets, you won't see jack.
the older zombies were scarier then the new ones cause they were some what self aware unlike the mindless wild animal versions they are in the newer films, if that was a newer zombie it would have just kept attacking the door but this one thought of a way to pry the door open with a chain and crank
This is great editing, I mean awesome! The only thing I don't like (not this persons fault) is on how they lowered Tarmans voice, it just doesn't sit well with me.
His first name is "Live" , and his last name is "Brains" .. Why that chick is running away from him? All he wants to do is to play rock-paper-scissors-well game.........
@adamv2 and i dont now why they use diffrant voices for Tarman for the one in the trailer and one in the movie and one in the credits i dont now why? :l

Classic zombies(and horror movies as well in my opinion) are scarier because the effects were done practically, not digitally. So when Freddy melted out of the wall, or Tarman ate his beloved brains, it was actually someone doing it, with a lot of very convincing make-up on. NOT stupid CGI bull.
