This intro is a special feature in Soul Reaver 2. I can't remember if you have to unlock it though. It basically lets you watch this intro. I assume it's for people who are new to the series to know some of Raziel's backstory. And yes, it's in this picture quality.

@DarkProject no, that's not why. Kain looked into the future and saw Raziel's coming, and through Raziel he could weave a new destiny for himself and Nosgoth. This isn't just me guessing, it's thoroughly explained in Soul Reaver 2, but it's a bit too complicated for me to express it in a youtube comment.

Kain is the true monarch of Nosgoth, whether the Hylden or Elder God like it. He is impetuous but driven to rule Nosgoth. People might have impeded Kain's ascension to power. Figures and his destiny was somehow engineered, its even said that Kain's death at the hands of brigands in Blood Omen 1 was masterplaned; the only one who was exempted by all of this was Raziel, the true benelovent vampire-wraith. His destiny was free do to whatever he wanted to do and that became a weapon for others.

Some say that the intro of this game mirrors that of the Biblical telling of the fall of Lucifer; Raziel playing Lucifer; Kain playing God; and for Raziel's (Lucifer) punishment; Kain (God) commands his other sons (Angels) Raziel to turmoil. Essentially, Raziel (Lucifer) is sent to hell as punishment for disobeying Kain (God). The Elder God (Chthulu) and his servant Moebius (Asmodeus) are meant to continue manipulating Raziel to enact a permanent Apocalypse on Nosgoth. This game is monotheistic.
