I don't think Claire will die, it's just another trick to peak the show audience. Doesn't makes sense if they write her out. Anyway, answering your question... in the last episode, Arthur tought Sylar how to access his empathy so he could learn how to get others ability without killing them.
He took her ability by understanding the relationship between her and her ability, and empathising with her. He can now mimic abilties by simply seeing how they work with someone and understanding it.
A catalyst speeds up a chemical reaction. In this case it allows the formula to work. Its hidden in Claire
you all know claire cant die because shes in the future killing peter. like hiro and charlie in the first season, hiro couldnt change the future. She wont die.

the eclipse made lose the powers but when the eclipse ends of the day the powers are back doesn't
