What secrets he must know. The miracle or the novelty of his work is that he is able to express his madly intricate concepts in a way that people can relate to.
For you pianists out there, please help me with this. I'm not a pianist, I'm a drummer. I dont' know chords that well. What is that chord he's hitting at 1:48 (and several times earlier in the song). Is it a fourth sus?
pianodan10, thanks!!! That is a huge help! I knew it was a sus, you can always feel the sus! At that point in the song, that chord is so powerful! Thanks again for you help and your kindness! -Kirk
Glad to help, with piano sometimes you can feel a chord, but it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what's going on. Keep playing! it's a wonderful thing.
Tom I want to grow up to be like you. but I guess Ill need a few more cartons of cigaretts and some bourbon. NEVER STOP and please come to medford oregon
Tom waits does it once again. So wholesome. Bawlers is by far my favourite of the three Orphans cds, and Tom shows just what can be done with a weathered voice and a little heart. :)
I stick bawlers on when I take a drive outta town...and head north then west out of petaluma into the green hills. Take it with Me is perfection...Widows' Grove is probably the best song written in the last 20 years...amazing disc. amazing. I like Puttin On the Dog on Brawlers, and many things on bastards.
Made me Rain. :)

thank god for tom waits...
there's so many pathetic artists out there who sell millions of records and garner a lot of radio play, but there's only one tom waits.

That's such a Powerful chord! Wow! The subtlety and power at the same time!
kirk7524875248 3 years ago 3
the chord is an Eb sus9... the 9th resolves to the third (a G).
So Basically he just plays a I chord, with this 8th note melody line going through it: F-G-Bb-Eb
hope that helps, it's a beautiful song. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if that wasn't what you were asking.

I think the "watch in high quality" option is ironic, because I can't imagine a higher quality performance.
