If you google her, you can listen to her sing the song on her website. There is no video of course, just a music player if her songs, but its a professional quality audio of this song, way better then this video can do justice.
Much as I agree with everyone about Valinor/The West being a better place, for me this song has always been coming from Sam - and he is grieving that the friend he loves is going away and they will be apart - at least until he joins him. So, much as he is happy for his friend to be at peace, he is heartbroken. Just my interpretation. Don't say we have come now to the end... :(
You've never actually paid attention to the lyrics, have you? It IS supposed to be inspiring. The "West" is Valinor. It's a GOOD thing to be going there, first of all, because that's Elvenhome.

I have said on this thread that I love her voice, about a year ago. As for other stuff, she is the one who talked about it on a radio interview and if she doesnt think its a big deal, why should you?
Yulia will in a few more things I am doing this year. Like my short straight to youtube science fiction series "Maudire". I don't think she will end up acting. Its just something she is doing for fun for this year as she takes a breather.

The beautiful work of Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyen, ladies and gentlemen. I personally like this artist's version better than Annie Lennox in some ways. Big ovation to Howard Shore for writing such moving orchestration.

She sounds like a messo-soprano which is very cool... But the sound engineer wasn't very good the music is louder than her voice I could not hear her voice properly. She is very beautiful and a Talented young woman and I wish her all the best in her Career

Having been a fan of hers since she "appeared", I am very reluctant to make comparisons with others - especially Annie! To me, there is a rawness to Yulia's voice that can bring me to tears, and I go by that. It may take her a wee while to find her path, but she WILL make the journey! Cheers everybody, and thanks for listening to "our" songstress.

I have seen Yulia live in Auckland. She is every bit as great a singer as Hayley Westernra both living in New Zealand. How wonderful it would be for them to have a concert together... you are just a superb and emotional singer..well done

One thing Yulia's performance here has over even Annie Lennox's performance at the Oscars -- a richness combined with discipline. It adds so much to the song, and the alterations in the arrangement are beautifully done too.

Yulia sings fluently in Russian, English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Maori (the language of the native New Zealanders). She was born in Russia and her family didn't leave until she was fifteen.

Yulia will in a few more things I am doing this year. Like my short straight to youtube science fiction series "Maudire". I don't think she will end up acting. Its just something she is doing for fun for this year as she takes a breather.
