  • this girls really good but annie lennox is amazing<3 this song is beautiful and no one can make a cover

  • so the beautiful music lives

  • beautiful. i enjoyed this for its' more classical rendition of this haunting song.

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL !!!!!

  • Her pitch is perfect. I mean perfect. But otherwise I wasn't that convinced, sorry. ;( I don't like the fact that she's using (maybe just partly?) the classical singing technique. It doesn't fit this song. And she doesn't have the much needed power in the chorus. For me, disappointment. :(

  • annie WHO?

  • I think this was beautiful. I love Annie's version but I haven't heard her produce a live version of this song as well as this... Kudos for doing this live so beautifully! Definitely a gifted singer here. Good song choice. Love her and Annie!

  • I hope Annie and whoever else wrote this is gettin a piece of her album.

  • I liked watching it but I was just bored because she doesn't put any power into her voice. I'm not hating or anything I just like the original better, and everyone who says Annie Lennox's voice is so average is just plain stupid.

  • @ZeroKiryuLover183 That is all good! But I really think that Yulia sang it because she liked Annie's song. The only aim here is to present the lovely Yulia. Annie is a legend, and nobody is trying to out-do her - nobody can. Yulia has a number of equally special songs she has written herself - may I invite you to listen to them? Kevin

  • Very poor version, sounds like karaoke, the production is identical to the original but she doesn't have Annie Lennox's voice. She really should have tried to be different.

  • Just listened to Annie Lennox singing this and her voice is SO average. You go Yulia, your voice is perfection!!.

  • @robinsgirl51 uh huh ok yeah that's because Yulia stays in her comfort zone and Annie Lennox holds the notes longer and goes OUT of her comfort zone.

  • Have seen Yulia twice in concert. She's wonderful...voice and personality.

  • I prefer this version to the Annie Lennox version. Annie Lennox sounds stupid when she makes the 'on the horizon' parts -__-;

well, i suppose both are good singers.

Yulia is my fav though! ^_^

  • wow!!! an angel' s voice!

  • Wow, what depth her voice has. I don't get the negative comments about this singer picking the wrong song to cover...what, so only Annie Lennox can EVER sing this song? When she dies, the song dies too??

Every artist has her own interpretation. In this case, the singer does not have Annie's crystal tones, but she has more depth to her voice due to the deeper timbre.

To me, it's a very soothing sound.

  • I actually like Yulia's version than that of Annie Lennox.

  • I think this coverversion is much to schnaltzy. It needs more strengh!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed that - thanks for sharing! =)

  • well that was just terrible...

  • @twistedmelno5 I don't think you are that flash either....

  • @twistedmelno5 I don't think you are that flash either....

  • she kinda looks like miley cyrus....

  • Abysmal. She has killed it, brought it back to life and killed it again. She does not have the range of Ms Lennox.

  • ... I dont believe this is even halfway near as emotional as the original. To me this is a half-ass'd cover.

Her voice is good, and she is a great singer - but she just picked the wrong song to cover. I dont believe anyone could top the original, with the amount of emotion it has

  • different version, but absolutely outstanding. she owns it.

  • very nice voice and a beautiful version but there are certain songs that should not be covered and unfortunately this is one of them :)

  • how old is she? she is pretty cute. actually she kind of has a large head. i didnt except her voice to be like that. its pretty good :)

  • I love Into the west, Angel, scarbourough fair all covers by yulia as well as her original song Russia. I reall want to get the 'Raw' versions of these songs but the only ones I can find are some weird live piano versions. The only album with the ones I want I think were released only in NZ but Im not sure. Does andyone know where I can can get her album "into the west" (not live)? i would be indebted to u!!!

  • She have a beautiful voice. And she gives her very best for this song, thats all what must known.

  • Great Voice!

  • She sings great... congrats....

  • This is really beautiful. Frankly, I think she does it better than Annie Lennox.

  • Beautiful!!

I actually like this much better than the original sung by Annie Lennox. I alsways loved the song, but dislike Annie's voice and accentuation.(not "Elvish" at all) So I am glad to find this; thank you for sharing!

  • Wow!

  • I love this song in the voice of Annie Lennox, but this girl is amazing. Yulia's voice is so beautiful like her. Thanks to share this video, otherwise I would not have the opportunity to know and enjoy her beautiful voice in this side of the world. Greetings from Mexico.

  • thanks 4 sharing

  • Nice attempt. No one can bean Annie's version, because it carries the spirit of the longest journey between two friends. This is just a cover. It is good as it stands, but the emotion of the song belongs to Annie Lennox and the movie.

  • have no fear good Heart, because many come that looks like it but JUST can't be the original and all souls pass into the west........

  • I love this. Her voice is smokey and evocative. Beautiful (and she 's definitely easy on the eyes, too).

  • i dont like this, her voice isnt as special as Annie Lennox, and she's russian, russians have a deeper voice, Annie lennox's voice is deep but its also hear able with a female touch, thats why her voice is unique.

  • i like annie lenox' version better but this is good too

  • Wat een klassieke mooie diepe zachte stem. Schitterend. Thank you

  • ... *sprachlos*

  • thanks for the video, Yulia is amazing.

  • DON'T LIKE IT

  • @bavariacentral Me too

  • i agree anne's voice is unique to this song and to any other song. a song that is written for your voice specifically is one that is no better sung by anyone else and yes she doesn't capture the moments of power and passionh well enough for my liking. it nearly dampins the song and i hate the way she changes the last note and the music doesnt fit it aswell as Howard Shore's. i recommend that u all watch annie lennox Use Well The Days. it was going to be used for LOTR:ROTK originaly, info on page

  • You fools this song was written with Annie Lennox in mind so that's how it's supposed to sound. Sheesh

  • Better than the original! I don't think Annie Lennox's voice was right for the song - Yulia seems to have that gentle, ethereal quality to her voice that makes it perfect for this.

  • I do not agree with this. Annie Lennox was perfect for it and her version is better than this one. Yulia doesn't have the ''punch'' needed to catch the powerful moments of the song.

  • ChrisAllenMiller I accept you because you are a Miller so am I Hannah Miller actually. I'm not a guy :)

  • annie is alittle better at this song but yulia definitely has the better looks

  • Exceept for itsnot your opinion? your just saying things that arnt true, either your misinformed or just ignorant, either way its just a matter that you dont know what your talking about

  • an opinion is what someone personally thinks and hanhanthe man thinks she shouldnt have done this song and shes not the best at it. thats an opinion. just because you dont agree doesnt mean you can be rude and call him ignorant!

  • I understand that but hes saying the song belongs to LOTR and that it shouldnt be shared and that Yulia is trying to make is sound as if this is her song by keeping the name, none of that is true information. i agree that she isnt the best voice to cover the song but she can do whatever she wants.

  • oh well in thatcase i understand but you just kinda freaked out. it wouldve saved time if you had just said that in the first place! ;) im sorry i jumped down ur throat! :(

    forgive me?

  • No Problemo

  • She's very good, but this is one of those songs that should be kept only with the original owner and karaoke bars.

  • eeew

  • 1. Annie Lennox should be the onyl voice that goes with this song.

    2. Into the West belongs to LOTR and shouldn't be the Album title

    3. She's making it sound like her own origional song by saying this is her Debu album.

All in all a crock of you know what

  • Angry person. If you don't like her, don't listen, and please don't comment. This was ABSOLUTELY Yulia's debut album, and no pretention was made to "own" the song.

  • This area is meant for commenting. So I did. Cool your jets I listened because I like the song. Wanted to see if anyone could live up but it remains as it was before Annie Lennox is the star of this song.

  • @hanhantheman

Annie Lennox might've been the one who sang this song for the first time but the fact is that Yulia's performance is much better as an elven lament.

  • @kumiak

    I agree..........

  • @kumiak She should have picked a song that she could really make sound wonderful, not something that has already been mastered by Annie Lennox.

  • ???? do you know what your talking about? she cant change the record name its not her song to change, its just a version, thats why its called a cover, No one said it was her debut album not to mention it clearly says, her debut album "montage" so im not too sure what your getting at

  • People it's just my opinion. Don't be mad at me for not loving her like the rest of you do. I'm sure there are artist that I love that you don't, but I'm not going to get my panties in a twist about it.

  • @hanhantheman I don't agree. While Annie does this beautifully as well, it is with some effort. This girl is just cruising and she is still young and improving while Annie is at her peak.

Nobody said it was an original song- her rendition is.

All in all your opinion is ill conceived and unnecessarily hostile

  • @hanhantheman And another thing, "Into the west" is a very appropriate debut album title for someone who has left Russia to live in the west

  • @hanhantheman Umm you do realize there's no law saying artists can't use a song belong to another artist on their own albums right? Just sayin'

  • @hanhantheman so agree. =)

  • My Space Classical Crossovers, her Site some beautiful music. Really love everything she does.

  • Absolutely captivating!

  • If you google her, you can listen to her sing the song on her website. There is no video of course, just a music player if her songs, but its a professional quality audio of this song, way better then this video can do justice.

  • I prefer this version over Lennox' soundtrack version. I was left absolutely speechless. This woman is an absolute treasure.

  • wow how old is she..she looks 15 but her voice is so amazingly mature

  • Even with the added accent, I prefer this version to the original.

  • Yes lovely

  • It´s amazing! Wonderful song!

  • Much as I agree with everyone about Valinor/The West being a better place, for me this song has always been coming from Sam - and he is grieving that the friend he loves is going away and they will be apart - at least until he joins him. So, much as he is happy for his friend to be at peace, he is heartbroken. Just my interpretation. Don't say we have come now to the end... :(

  • very nice, bur sorry... the original is unbeatable!

  • @Komafalke i can understand your sorrow, when Yulia sings tears roll

  • i like it more than the original =)

  • WHAT THE HELL????????????

  • I'm crying. Thank you.

  • Julia's best recording of this song. I like Annie Lennox version but feel this has more depth of feeling and richness.

  • The chorus should be belted out, it's supposed to be inspiring and show strength. ...this just doesn't do it. The voice is just kind of normal.

  • It is a lament, not supposed to be inspiring. It's supposed to show pain because people you care about have died. I think she does this quite well.

  • You've never actually paid attention to the lyrics, have you? It IS supposed to be inspiring. The "West" is Valinor. It's a GOOD thing to be going there, first of all, because that's Elvenhome.

"Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face?...Soon you will see...All of your fears will pass away."

How is that showing pain? The prior stanza even says those who came before are calling your name, and those who came before were mighty and great in name!

  • I don't think that person knows that the Grey Havens are. Hehe.

  • Haha, I don't think so either :P Though, the "West" isn't the Grey Havens either. Not entirely, anyway. The Grey Havens are just the gateway. VALINOR is so much better than the Grey Havens, and it is the West :)

  • Yeah, I know that. Was just saying because the song is pretty much leaving the the Grey Havens to go 'into the west'. Eh, sorry should have just put Valinor. Lets rephrase, I dont think they know about Lord of the Rings. =P

  • Ohhh, I see what you meant now. Sorry, I didn't know you were talking about leaving too. I thought you were just talking about Valinor. Makes much more sense in my brain now :P

But, yeah, not knowing much about LOTR works too :P

  • An Angel She Is :)

  • I don't know...this is my favorite piece from Lennox, Lennox has an amazing voice, a very own sound that fits ''Into the West'', if another does it, it seems wrong and bad. She sings good, but this song is from Lennox.

  • I agree with you. Annie Lennox's voice fits "Into the West" in such a special way.

  • AESOME!´<3

  • Lennox's voice in this song sounds like my security alarm. I'm not saying its bad ... but it is an awfully piercing pitch.

    Yulia's voice is intoxicating

  • lol creamy voice?

  • yeah, can't beat lennox on this song, but i doubt that's the point...i like this girl tho...

  • hard to really hear her voice over the music. but it's very nice...

  • Good performance, but I like Annie Lennox's original performance more. Fit's the song better I guess

  • I heard alot of versions on Youtube of the this song...but this one left them all behind..absolutely flawless... hauntingly beautiful...Thank you so much for posting this...Bravo !

  • amazing O.o

  • Is she an opera singer? She would be really good at it.

  • Little more support would be super, don't let your breath hold back your power. Your voice is lovely.

  • Beautiful voice, beautiful face, fascinating personality--what more could one ask for? Best wishes from a new fan in the USA!

  • What a voice! Knocks Hayley off her perch any day. Saw here in concert in Greymouth, what a wonderful personality she has.

  • @robinsgirl51

this is exactly wot i thought when i first heard Yulia singing one of her own russian songs, accompanied only by her guitar playing....she is so versatile

  • she's beautiful

  • Beautiful! Truly magical!

    Greetings from the netherlands

  • The beautiful work of Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyen, ladies and gentlemen. I personally like this artist's version better than Annie Lennox in some ways. Big ovation to Howard Shore for writing such moving orchestration.

  • EXCELLENT

  • She sounds like a messo-soprano which is very cool... But the sound engineer wasn't very good the music is louder than her voice I could not hear her voice properly. She is very beautiful and a Talented young woman and I wish her all the best in her Career

  • Funny Russian accnets within!

  • a talented singer with a wonderful voice

the only thing i must criticize... the horn solo call in the background has deviated from the original and to me just doesn't sound the same

  • Shouldn't a different singer sound different from the Annie Lennox original? Isn't that the whole idea? Interpretation.

  • @lutzie200 I agree wholeheartedly with this comment

  • Having been a fan of hers since she "appeared", I am very reluctant to make comparisons with others - especially Annie! To me, there is a rawness to Yulia's voice that can bring me to tears, and I go by that. It may take her a wee while to find her path, but she WILL make the journey! Cheers everybody, and thanks for listening to "our" songstress.

  • OMG GREAT!!!!!! But Annie is better sorry, but you are AMAZING too!! Keep singing!

  • Nice voice but, in my personal opinion, she does not have the feeling that Annie Lennox put into this nice song.

  • Exactaly

  • Beautiful. Personally, I think her voice fits this song much better than Annie Lennox's version.

  • thats a big no

  • And I suppose your way better then Annie then?

  • Many will disagree with you

  • Ooook..... that's just... well it's Annies song so how can you say it fits another person better? Yulias voice is absolutely adorable, but it's WAY to rich for this song, well, according to me that is.

  • WOW shes great

  • You all love her and I can hear why she has such depth. A real big voice in such a girl. And never feel guilty about letting us into what should never be a secret, a beautiful young woman with a beautiful voice singing beautiful songs.

  • Don`t feel that you will be in trouble for this. When something as beautiful as what she can do.Anybody would understand.I never heard of her but now i`m glad that I did.

  • Okay, all of you Pop Idols, American Idols, Superstars, Pop Stars and so on: THIS is singing. THIS is talent. THIS is presence. Listen and learn.

    Yulia, you are wonderful.

  • WOW

  • This song is (((really))) beautiful! When I first got the album I listened to that song every single night before I went to sleep...sooo peaceful! And I love 'softly whispering I love you' Yulia really made it her own.

  • I love her voice very much, I'm a fan from HK. Thx for sharing!

  • I have seen Yulia live in Auckland. She is every bit as great a singer as Hayley Westernra both living in New Zealand. How wonderful it would be for them to have a concert together... you are just a superb and emotional singer..well done

  • I've met her! She's in my choir. However, it was her first day today and she's so busy she won't be there next week, but I think she'll come sometimes. I talked to her and she's lovely =]

  • @dashaX3 lucky lucky you....

  • She's better than Hayley w IMO

  • Hi Yulia Love, Ritchie here! Glad to see you're up on youtube! Mum and Dad say hi! hope all is well and catch you next time i am in CHCH - keep up the great work!

  • What a amazing voice, just lovely. Very best of luck Yulia

  • I wept unashamedly at this -- I love this song, and something about this arrangement must've opened a wellspring of emotion in me. THANK YOU for sharing this!

  • One thing Yulia's performance here has over even Annie Lennox's performance at the Oscars -- a richness combined with discipline. It adds so much to the song, and the alterations in the arrangement are beautifully done too.

  • Hi Rakkav - I am very glad that you enjoyed her! Hopefully one more fan!!!

  • On this song, certainly! :D I love to play my Celtic harp along with this video, and with those by Annie Lennox, covering this song. - Yulia seems very young, yet her voice (to my ears) is very mature.

  • Does she have any songs she actually wrote?

  • Yes, She wrote "Russia" on Into the West and co-wrote "You are Here" on Montage.

  • Russia is an amazing song. I have no idea what she is saying but she sings it beautifully.

  • It's in english...

  • The song Russia? Its definitely not in English. Unless there is another version. The one I have is from her Into the West CD. Its in Rusian.

  • OH! sorry, I thought you were referring to this song!

  • trevorh321,

Yulia sings fluently in Russian, English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Maori (the language of the native New Zealanders). She was born in Russia and her family didn't leave until she was fifteen.

  • I didnt know she sang in so many languages, but I did know she moved with her mother to NZ to marry a man she met over the internet.

  • Hey trevorh321. Personally, I really don't think that matters at all - that is personal matter for her mum and not a public forum. I am just trying to promote Yulia and her wonderful voice. You didn't say whether you enjoyed her or not!

  • I have said on this thread that I love her voice, about a year ago. As for other stuff, she is the one who talked about it on a radio interview and if she doesnt think its a big deal, why should you?

  • Hey Trevor, I guess I am very defensive about her! I apologise.

  • @kumiak well said

  • @trevorh321 Yulia did not marry a mean over the internet. She was only 15years old.....it was her mother who fell in love with a kiwi......(NZer)

  • Yeah, I know that.

  • uuhhhh full of your daughter much?

  • VERY odd thing to say???

  • Yulia Townsend can be seen starring in my 48 hour film festival film called "Fatal Symptoms" which is now available to view on my youtube channel.

  • Very Good! I am surprised! Is Yulia branching out into a bit of acting ??!! She sure csn scream good!

  • Yulia will in a few more things I am doing this year. Like my short straight to youtube science fiction series "Maudire". I don't think she will end up acting. Its just something she is doing for fun for this year as she takes a breather.

  • I have wondered how hard all this stuff is on her, and I don't think anyone would begrudge her having some time out. Wish her all the best from me!

  • Where is Yulia resident now? I heard that she was going to Europe, but it hasn't been confirmed.

  • She is in Christchurch currently performing in the New Zealand premiere of Urinetown. Check out her myspace if you want to know what she is upto.

  • Thanks.

  • @shermanrory

    Or Facebook........

  • If you like Yulia and live in Christchurch you can see Yulia in the MuSoc production of Urinetown with me at Canterbury university. Also keep an eye on my youtube channel is all I can say.

  • I love her voice. It is deep but rich and beautiful. I actually like her better than Hayley Westenra and I never thought I would say that.

  • she is amazing,,,don lesten to any one tell u anything else,,,it was one of the best voices i ever heard...go on

  • I am very warmed that you enjoyed her! Yes, she is a delight, and her voice still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you!

  • thanks so much for uploading!

  • Well, she might have a beautiful mezzo soprano but it is the way of singing I dislike.

  • I didn't like her singing, there was too much air in her voice.

  • I am sad to hear that you felt this way. But I realise she isn't to everybody's taste. Personally, I delight in her. Cheers

  • thank you, i think the artist has a beautiful voice and she does a beautiful version, she is only a whisper from annie lennox. i thank you for giving us a new solo of this beautiful song. codyfeatherwings
