Actually the piano script is extremely simple. It has 1 sample per key. Click the key, play the sample.
It's not actually practical for playing music, though. It's more of a novelty. First of all, SL has to load every note, and only after you click the key for the first time. Next, there's an unavoidable delay between clicking and hearing the sound.
It's fun, but not useful as a musical instrument.
Even currently, it would be OK for simple stuff as long as you can make your head work around the latency. I am kinda used to that, I used to have a Soundblaster Live in my recording machine. ;)
YES, MIDI integration would be great--has to be much tighter. SL's latency problems are a real hurdle but, ah... the day when we can get soooo in sync!
Ohhh that would so rock! I have one of those and that would be perfect for the piano and hyperflute and stuff like that - much less clunky than using the computer keyboard.
I think there are 88 samples, but each takes time to load... so it takes considerable patience--this piano doesn't have a preloader. Cubey Terra made it, if you'd like to ask him!
So very cool. That piano must have taken so long to design and even longer to script. Is there a finite limit to sounds that one object can use, or are there 88 samples?
It's a sad story, I don't really play music anymore because of my hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound) problems. Music was a very important part of my past--maybe it will be again in the future. Thanks for your nice comment. :)

I am just waiting for someone to write a MIDI interface so I can use my M-Audio controller. ;)
