  • I'm gonna add, the whole kit sounds very nice.

  • Haha (the High Tom)"And notice when I change the placement of the mic the sound will change.........."

Ok first time the mic is in place, hit a phew times,

    Move the mic again,No difference

    Ok, move it again,No Difference,

    Move it again,No difference.

i'm pretty sure "The same"" doesn't mean "different"

Dude check out what your doin first;)

  • The eq Toms is a fail, cut 300 hz?? WTF!

  • Cool video. I'm sure if you had a better room it would sound a lot better.

  • eq is a fail

  • that sounds like shit

  • how can you expect to hear subtlelties of mic placement with a 240p audio quality?

  • 240p,we meet again.

  • the title of this is misleading, im a sound engineer myself, and i want to improve my drum sound, ...........this didnt help, and frankly sounded pretty poor.

  • "Mic choice and placement should be the first options that you vary to get the drum sound you want" I disagree, this should be the second point. The first point would be is the kit in a good enough state to record and does it sound great un-mic'd. If not, fix it!

  • @TheHasselBoff right on!

  • I knew as soon as it said "The professional way!" i was in for a load of bollocks. GET YOUR FUCKING TOMS TUNED, YOU EJIT!

  • The video sounds like it was recorded in the 80's in a home studio. But i guess ill just put my opinion out there. I love big rock sounding drums (I am a punk, post, drummer) But i love big rock roomy sounding drums. And when i record my drums i use 8 mics. Just close mic everything, and use room mics to really really bring your drums to life. I am only an amateur though, and im only 16 and iv been doing it since i was 14. My motto, boost highs and lows, drop the mids, but thats just me.

  • Presonus "presented" this.

Same snapping and popping I've been getting from my presonus when the piece of shit is working at all. That's $500 I wish I had back.

I like the information in this video, but the interface is pretty bottom of the line.

  • Number 1 it's micing 2 get ur kit tuned.

  • 3:45 nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boogaloo beats

  • God the heads suck! and the microphones are cliping. i have to say this video is a fail

  • @garrettm371 they dont clip, its the 240p compression, fks the audio. They used a limiter, so no clipping .

  • @garrettm371 LOL

  • how much did the recording stuff cost in total?

  • first step in getting good audio: Buy better drums than these and new drumheads with good tuning technique!!!

  • I have a mixer, but I want to get the firestudio 8x8. Should I sell it or save it incase I want to do a live recording or something?

  • it would help to tune the drums better.

  • aaahhhh.... the horror of the snare

  • Thats sounds good as! But 1 thing i have wanted to know for a while is when you record with acamera how does the sound you edited go into the video camera??? Plz someone tell me

  • @FunnyBoi1001 thats waht i wanna figure out too

  • @FunnyBoi1001 You don't - You record it speratly yhen go back and edit the video and sync it to the audio

  • thx a lot. i like the vid, but ur gate is totally off. then again, just an opinion.

  • yes, it only adds a "crack" each time the kick is played

  • Ummm about the inverted phase on the snare drum mics.. A top and bottom mic need to be out of phase, yes. You should know that when using a dynamic on top and a condenser on the bottom you should NOT invert the phase. The reason is that condensers and dynamics are naturally phase inverted from one another already. Inverting the phase at the preamp will actually put them IN phase. Funny he doesnt know that. But now YOU do:)

  • u should have set ur gate release to a higher level for the click sound that you can hear after the tom sound.

and close miking is not always what you need on all your mics.

experimenting for different types of sound is always suggested.

    more room sound, farther mking.

more punch and dryer sounding, closer miking.

  • what arer you using for mixing

  • nice

  • clipping kick? 09:14

  • Yes, you can get unbelievable frequencies with a 10 or 12 inch speaker in front of the kik drum. Just connect a mic wire to it and go into a mixer. It's a cheaper large diaphragm mic.

  • what was up with the speaker in front of the kick?

  • the wiring on it was probally reversed and turned into a microphone

  • @jmknosp85

Yes! it is. There was a trick they did on an old album by the Tubes. They did exactly that with a small 4 inch speaker (I think that was the size) and mixed that with the kick drum mic. You couldnt hear a difference on big monitors, but it made the small speaker in peoples car radios really pump. This long ago when people HAD small car stereo speakers:)
