R's have changed, that's the problem. They ended slavery brought, us into prosperity during the 20th and early 21st century, ended and were against all wars, stood for debt/tax-free gov issued paper currency. D's changed too, they were for a gold standard, ending the "monopoly" of gov, equal representation, expansionism.
The problem is "progressivism", a form of collectivism that has plagued us since the early 1900s, undermining our principals of individualism and civil liberty in BOTH parties.
If the Democrats can change, so can the Republicans.
Look up the Democratic Party platform from 1932. That's right, the one FDR ran on.
Here's a quote:
"We advocate an immediate and drastic reduction of governmental expenditures by abolishing useless commissions and offices, consolidating departments and bureaus, and eliminating extravagance to accomplish a saving of not less than twenty-five per cent in the cost of the Federal Government."
Obama has pushed consistently for "abolishing useless commissions and offices, consolidating departments and bureaus, and eliminating extravagance..."
In that regard, he echoes FDR (and in a few other ways too.) FDR was a very popular president with the American people.
STICK AROUND -- Obama is going to get the economy back on its feet, after the multi-faceted Bush debacle -- and make significant progress on the debt. If he gets 8 years, I predict he will cut the debt down to Clinton level.
taoofmichael, I'm sure you have examples of commissions and offices that President Obama would like to abolish. Could you share a few, please?
What about the "drastic reduction of governmental expenditures" though? I read an article earlier that said he wanted to shave $17 billion from the budget.
Do you mean the debt or the deficit? They're two things. I don't know how Obama could come up with $12 trillion (plus however much we've spent so far) in 8 years.
Stay tuned. Obama will be making drastic cuts is government expenditures -- as soon as we get the economy on its feet.
That is what he promised all through the campaign. Why the pessimism? Get on board the Obama train, here in America and around the world.
Maybe all this good will and optimism will bring about some good things for regular working class Americans!! It could happen! Quit putting dog shit in the cookie dough!! That is FOR SURE not going to help matters.
taoofmichael, Pessimism? You said Obama pushed consistently to abolish commissions and offices. I just want examples of what he would abolish. That's not pessimistic, nor is it "putting dog shit in the cookie dough." That's just wanting clarification.
"I'm Jeff Sessions and I approve of this message...until it becomes politically expedient not to".
I mean come on. The only thing he was concerned about was having one set of people's civil rights shoved down the throat of everyone else. Sounds like a defender of the Constitution to me. I mean the Constitution clearly states:
Recognition of other civil's rights comes second to comfort and desire of those in the ruling class.
Isn't the status quo what the Founders fought for?
Sessions is the absolute worst of the old twisted mouthed, bigoted, bitter, self righteous, hypocrites on the Right. The only good thing about him I can think of is that he is old and will most likely leave his body behind soon. We can only hope that in the process his ignorant, backward, fear motivated thought process will depart with him.
Incidentally, if you don't think Sessions will be a pain in the ass on the Judiciary Committee, be reminded that this is the same guy who tried to use BUDGET RECONCILIATION to force through drilling in ANWAR when the Republicans had the majority, and then tried to get the Senate to move against the Dems using Reconciliation when Dems had the majority.
Don't kid yourself, he's obviously not embarrassed at all by hypocrisy!
Who care's what Grassley has to say on the matter? Let's hear it straight from the horse's mouth. You, Grassley & I can say go back and forth days on end on with what WE think how someone feels. Isn't it better to hear it straight from the person being discussed and not speculating on what they might be thinking? It's this pack mentality the got the gop in hot water, let's not follow in thier footsteps.
the horse isn't talking! he's letting these asses do the talking for him because he has NO defense. he said the things he said and he was denied the appointment. it's time people are not rewarded for their hateful attitudes and outdated views.
GOP = sweep it under the rug. Hear no evil See no evil Speak no evil. It never happened! move along people nothing to see here! Excuse me as I cough.* BULLS*&T*!!

Well according to Wikipedia the source is from: Harry S. Truman., William Morrow and Co., p. 429.
But I seriously doubt Mr. Truman was anything more than symptomatic of his time and birthplace, meaning I doubt he was anything like David Duke.

Yogi Berra: "I never said all the things I said."
Jeff Sessions: "I said all those things I said, but I wasn't associated with them."
What's the difference? One of them is cute, the other one is dangerous.

I did not beat my dog. On Friday night. In front of witnesses. With a stick. When it was raining. At 9 pm. Or at any other time.
Facts and proof have no bearing on the matter.
This Neocon logic is really twisted. Funny if they didn't affect me so much.
