I Mark The Wheel Wells And Body Post With A Sharpie Before I Paint. But I Paint Before I Trim. I Like To Have That Extra Lexan To Hold Onto And Move The Body Around As I Paint.
Everybody has their own way of painting a lexan body. The reason I do it this way is I've scratched paint on bodies trimming after it's painted. Also It's just easier for me to do all the mounting and lining up while the body is still clear...Especially if the body wasn't made for the chassis I'm putting it on and I don't have the guide holes to help me out. - Jay
I Like To Just Mark My Holes And Wheel Wells And Design With A Sharpie. Then tape Up The Bottom. Then I Take A Razor Blade And Edge Out The Design Pealing Off The Extra Tape.
I Like The Drawing The Design With A Sharper On The Outer Part So I Can See Kinda What Its Going To Look Like. And If I Wanna Change Like Flames Or Something Nail Polish Remover Erases It. And After Taking That Protective Film Off All The Marked Are Gone
the window masking is to cover up the windows when you are painting. If you didn't do this the windows would be body colored and you wouldn't be able to see through them. - Jay
I would try to remove the window masking. A razor blade should help you get the edge of the masking started and then just be as gentle as possible. If thats not an option I would use wet paper towels to clean it up as much as possible, then dry it well.-Jay
I recommend the Tamiya spray cans over the Pactra spray cans. Tamiya paint give you better coverage with less coats and has a much better nozzle. The Pactra nozzle always clogs on me. I never have that problem with the tamiya cans.
I would like to do some of these, but we're not set up for styrene type painting. We would need to get an airbrush setup for the best results and I'm not sure when or if we'll be doing that.-Jay
dude the end result was beast

backinblack19 5 months ago
@backinblack19 The decals are stickers and you add them to the outside of the body when you're finished painting it.

how do you paint the door cuts with black paint? its to thin to mask please help me
artoflip2 2 years ago
You use a Sharpie "extra fine point marker" to detail the door and hood gaps. It's very easy and very effective. - Jay

Dishwash SOAP to clean the body before painting, NOT dishwash detergent... two VERY different things.

I wondered if anyone was going to catch my brain fart! Yes, you probably don't want to wash your lexan body with some Cascade!!
AtomicMods 2 years ago
Hey nice vid helps alot!!
but i was wondering if you put the masking on the whole body?
lulu1394 2 years ago
I pretty much masked the entire body. They only part I didn't mask were the fender flares.

Actually the 1/10 Scale Jeep in that video is My Tamiya CC-01 Jeep Wrangler.

Good Job Man What paint are you using?
blackcarreraGT 2 years ago
I used a mix of Tamiya and Pactra (race finish) Polycarbonate/Lexan paints. These are both great for Lexan.-Jay

Lexan Body shells are quite thin, but very durable. This keeps the center of gravity down low and on a rock crawler thats a good thing.-Jay
