  • do these start to stop working after a while? i've been taking these for about six months now and recently i've started to feel quite anxious and am having sleep trouble, but i can't tell if it is because i've left school and don't have job yet, and i haven't really done anything since may , so i'm not sure if if it's that or if my body is starting to tolerate the dosage

  • i was taking citalopram also, i didn't like it at all. every day i took it i was dizzy, nausious, had stomach pains, more angry than before that stuff sucks.

  • @alex66satan1

you have to stick with it..... it really does come good... Im a year into it, and I've taken the decision to come off the medication... 2 months in, Im really happy with coming off....

  • I took it before bed and woke up an hour later crying and laughing and freaking out then the next day i found i had chewed the inside of my mouth.... :(

  • was prescribed this by my doctor yesterday to treat my clinical depression, i'm on 20mg a day and will be kept on it for around 6 months, hope it works!

  • I took 'em for 2 years. Stopped a month or so ago. Didn't get any side affects, but I did get some withdrawal symptoms like light-headedness. I don't think they really worked for me, although I was on a small dosage by the end. If I get seriously depressed again, I might try some St John's wort instead of this useless crap.

  • wow, just took my first pill today and it knocked me out for 3 hours!

  • if all i have is anxiety disorder, why do i have to take an anti depressant? i don't know much about medicine, but this is what my doctor put me on, and i don't get why i'm on an anti depressant.

  • because its not a class 1 narcotic like ativan or xanax, your doc does not have to worry about fda , they have special paper work for those drugs, very strict and monitored. good luck

  • @hideandseekk because of an anti depressant is also the same thing used to treat anxiety. Depression and anxiety is pretty mutch the same thing, different effect.

  • had panic attacks since age of 15 tried different anti deps, this one is far the best, took 20mgs for 2 years, now just 10mg every other day, just to keep the attacks away..no side effects apart from yawning alot in the first few weeks

  • @tanzanite400

    did you gain weight?

  • This medication is really working for me. I was on Zoloft (50mg) before and felt like a zombie. I also like that Citalopram has less side effects than a lot of the other SSRI's. It's worth a shot for anyone who is not happy with their current SSRI.

  • also you cant have sex with this med, thereby tuining your relationships, which is really good for depression.

  • I had to take it for a while but it did not help. I was having nightmares... more often than usually.. i felt weak and especially my little friend was weak, too. And Amnesia was also a problem. Maybe it wasn't the right treatment for me. But for all i can say is that Citalopram did not help at all. In fact it made it all worse.

  • iv been on This medication since i was 15 im now 24 iv been on all sorts of dosage right up to 60mg being in my teens i was on 60mg drinking Alcohole most weekends it just made me very tierd and would sometimes knock me out. other than that im ok. im on it for panic attacks/Anxity.

  • that was really helpfull thank you so much. today it was my first pill of the medicine.

and i also take with it "citalopram".

  • what will happen if i take aclohol with citalopram

  • It can be very dangerous ask your doctor for moré info.

  • alcohol will make you more depressed.

  • Citalopram makes you drowsy so if you drink alcohol which also makes you drowsy it will make you even more drowsy than Citalopram by itself.

  • is it possible for this to show up on a drug test as benzos? i take wellbutrin and celexa and im coming up positive for benzos, any ideas?

  • is it possible for this drug to show up on a drug test for benzos? i just took a test and i take wellbutrin and celexa, and im coming up positive for benzos, any idea why?

  • Don't take ssris unless you want to be impotents, the thing is called pssd and I assure You it's real. believe it or not but you really dont want to find it out for yourselves

  • is it a benzo

  • No, SSRI

  • what would be the strongest benzo out there?? i've been on lorazepam now for 6 months and the 1mg i take before bed isn't helping now like it once did

  • It's my fourth day on Celexa and I am having MAJOR problems sleeping, do you guys know if that goes away soon?

  • It may. That's not a good answer but it's really the only one. If it is giving you trouble, just ask the doctor for a different medication.

  • is it a benzo?

  • No, SSRI

  • I've been on Citalopram for about 3 years and I've put on lots of weight. :(

  • It seems to do the opposite with me, but I try to swim @ least once a day...oh yeah...I take my with 2 Heineken and 2 tylenol PMs

  • I've been taking Citalopram for a day now for bipolar disorder. Treating the depression. I came off the similar Fluoxetine (Prozac), because it wasn't doing the depressive episodes much good. Hopefully I'll feel more stable as the dosage progresses upward.

  • I've been taking citalopram for a week and it's making me very tired - also I've been getting very memorable dreams since I started taking it!

  • Yeah, I've been on Fluoxetine (Prozac) for depression for months on end, and the dreams are SO much more vivid and easy to recall aren't they? Now I'm on Citalopram for bipolar disorder.

The dreams were multiple, bright, twisted, sometimes perverse and in quite high definition too. Oddly enough, these dreams actually help me to shed some light on how I am personally, not to mention benefit the extreme spurts of creativity that go hand in hand with bipolarity.

Hope the medicine helps you xx

  • I have very memorable dreams also. I've only had one dream that made me feel bad...the other ones were really, really cool!!!

  • I feel real embarrassed about admitting it, but my libido completely dissapeared while I was on this drug

  • No embarrassment necessary :) I suffered from decreased libido from taking Prozac. I haven't been on Citalopram for long now, but I wonder if things will change?

It was frustrating because the emotions were often there, but with little to zero feeling downstairs.

  • what about alcohol? can you drink it like 5 hours later?

  • I take mine with Heineken, but I don't take mine until bedtime or when I know I'm not leaving out or driving.

  • this drug worked for me, the worst side effects would be it did mess up my sleep and cause me to get the shakes.

  • Im a week into citalopram for OCD,,,Im sleeping for 14 hours a day and still tired, libido decrease and jittery at first, oh and I wouldnt advise drinking a lot on this- a fews fine but I drunk a bottle of bourbon and blacked out for hours in a muddy field, even tho I was still functioning god knows what I got up to at that festival

  • Im now on citalopram

prozac sucked and made me fall asleep in class -.-

  • this stuff is a complete bastard to ween yourself off be warned

  • I used to be on this, used to be on it for about 6 months!!! I found it didn't work at all.. all it did was give me headaches and feel asif I was living everyday in slow motion.....

  • I'm on Citalopram. I think its an excellent treatment for depression and anxiety. I used to take Prozac which is quite a nasty antidepressent.

  • I'm on both

  • Here here regarding th Prozac.

  • Im on this for my mild but debilitating depression. Got a slight headache. It's day 3.

  • get off while you still can..see citalopram withdrawal..

  • cool, thanks for that. just got subscribed this today actually
