Its harder than glass is meaning it is able to scratch glass. tempered glass gets its strength from the fact that there's a lot of stress - like pressure- built up in the glass that resists it breaking. the hard alumina scratches the glass allowing it to crack with impact, once a crack forms the pressure is released quickly breaking the entire window. you can break a window with a rock.
yet if you threw it at a head it would do nothing

if you want an easier and a more quite method, purchase an automatic center punch, because the tip of the punch is already resting up against the glass it makes very little noise.

No....its the structure of that element in the spark plug, I forgot the name of it but it ranges from a 9 on the hardness scale with 10 being a diamond. Glass being 5 or 6? But even so I still don't understand how it works fully because I doubt you can throw a diamond at a window and break it as easily.

yea i see what you mean, i think its the concept of a localized force. newer car windows are designed to break easier (into thousands of little pieces) so as to allow for easier escapes in emergency situations. but what i'm mildly puzzled about is the force... something so small in weight cannot generate much force... infact look closer at the video, the first time he hits the windows a LIGHT sound, second time (unshone what he picks up off the floor) sounds like a rock, of course i may be wrong

Spark plugs are made of pocelain, but its an electical grade mostly aluminum oxide. Its harder than glass is meaning it is able to scratch glass. tempered glass gets its strength from the fact that there's a lot of stress - like pressure- built up in the glass that resists it breaking. the hard alumina scratches the glass allowing it to crack with impact, once a crack forms the pressure is released quickly breaking the entire window. you can break a window with a rock.
