I think "Summer" means something like "Arcadia" where their youthful love blessfully blossomes.
Though they strayed far from there, I believe their love of life always belongs there.
And Sebastian might run away also to escape from the strict restriction of catholicism.
But I feel that after loosing his youth, beauty and health, he reached the saintness which trascends the mere religion.
That's so moving.

If he had longed for hot summers so much he would have left earlier. i think he escaped from home to forget Charles.
