  • the problem is not only that these particular women don't look like that in real life - I know there are some non-celebreties who really are beautiful and wouldn't need photoshopping. The problem is,that even before photoshop existed, the industry didn't allow much for variety in body size and shape.Society sets a standard of what women should look like but only a minority of women look like that naturally. You can't set a standard for people - humans come in all shapes and sizes.

  • Lame. I like attractive women, but it'll fade in time. The inner beauty in Christ will last. This photoshop is so decadent. I want a real woman, not some fantasy!

  • Look a runway of Milan Paris or London... Models are better than celebrities <3

  • lady gaga doesnt get photoshopped ;)

  • Totally in that class totally gonna jerk it now,to some fakeness!!!!

  • This woman is hot

  • all the girl were pretty already, so my opionon is that the magasines should let the girls be photographed and not edited that much on the computer

  • I knew it was impossible. This really makes you feel better about yourself, doesn't it?

  • I wonder how people would react if non of these were photoshoped, I really want to see a picture from a celebrity whitout get Photoshoped and show the truth of their ''perfect'' body

  • If you know Photoshop, you know all these ''perfect'' body, teeth, eyes etc are really fake and can spot it on a long eye that this is Photoshoped. I been using Photoshop for 5 years now, I know these tricks

  • I agree that this is disgusting. It's brainwashing both men and women to think that perfection actually exists. NOTHING in our world is perfect! I much prefer imperfections anyways and a girl who can smile and be happy without comparing herself to emaciated, unhealthy, models or fake photos. And about men, who cares what they think! Life is what you make of it! If you think you look good, others will see you that way too! GL!

  • I don't really get insecure about people in pictures, but the people in real life that are flawless and skinny and smart.

  • Woo! You go photoshop! Kill the self esteem of young girls!

  • I've worked changing girls and boys in photoshop, that's my job... and it's sad, I want to use my tools in real life!

  • I had to watch this video for a Culture, Race & Media class I'm currently taking. It really does make you question reality and wonder if all you can do is assume that EVERY man and woman you see in an ad is never what they truly appear to be.

Btw, was that Utada Hikaru @ 4:23?

  • @EmoKingxUlquiorra If you have a teacher using this video I would be grateful if they would add a comment telling me the school and class. It'd be nice for me ego.

Most people do not believe that advertisements are true, but that knowledge still has not affected the impact advertising has. Its just as affective as ever.

The real issue here is the message, more than the media. Crushing woman's self esteem so they can sell them things is the real issue.

  • @ThisIsRedVideo Oh no absolutely, I agree that the message of the video is definitely what's more important here. The class is Culture, Race and Media at Columbia College

  • @ThisIsRedVideo Well I don't know about the person who first stated this, but I am in a Culture, Race, and Media class now and this is something we look at. The school is Columbia College Chicago.

  • 6 HOURS? lol someone sucks at photoshop

  • @sleepyasthesouth lmao. It actually can take hours, but yeah, that after result was less than desirable.

  • As a guy, I feel bad for women who feel pressured to look like models. Great video.

  • hahaha its Emhotep!

  • i would have to say there is nothing wrong with the women they are "fixing" to look perfect.

  • she looked nice before tho xx

  • ADRIANA LIIIIIMA !!! SHE LOOOOKS THE SAME.

  • has anyone read the book "uglies" by scott westerfeild?

  • @Oreoreogirl I have. Scary! We're basically living his future. Well to a certain point

  • she has such pretty eyes!!!

  • Even models don't actually look like themselves in person.. of course there are some rare women lucky to have been given great genes who couldn't be improved in photoshop but they are a small exception. But you get the impression they're all over the place through this deceptive media

  • OMG Angelina Jolie looks like MJ in that pic!

  • This is disgusting. Women have become objectified and are labelled as products rather than beautiful human beings who should be treasured.

  • I know I feel the pressure to look like thos women, especially around guys. They compare us to them, its so depressing. I feel not good enough.

  • i wish every man who thinks a woman should look like a model would watch this video..ugh men are pigs :(

  • cost 1000$! i could do that for u for 100$

  • wow i already knew that clebs are really ugly in real life.

  • nothing new.

  • Funniest is comparing Daniella Westbrook on the TV magazine cover, and in Eastenders. LMAO!!

  • Maybe nobody looks like these photoshopped images, but that is what we SHOULD look like. I'm certainly not resting until I have had enough surgery and skin treatment to make my dreams of perfect beauty a reality.

You can ramble on about just being happy with who you are and all that, but you know the truth, you're just pretending it doesn't kill you a little inside every time you look in the mirror, I for one, am going to stand up and do something about it before I completely die inside.

  • @SpongyOLlama I'm pretty sure the way we SHOULD look is the way we naturally look, the way we DO look. I honestly hope that you're kidding about getting surgery and skin treatment.

  • @mgstatic91 I'm not kidding, I need it to counter the effects of genetic degeneration. We're in an age where even the least fit are allowed to survive, rather than dying off. There is a distinct correlation between how attractive someone is, and how genetically sound they are and worthy of reproducing. Because of how the world works, we're slowly getting uglier and uglier.

I'm never having children for this reason, and every ugly person who does have children is being selfish and irresponsible.

  • @SpongyOLlama I feel sorry for you. Getting plastic surgery doesn't change someone's genetics. They aren't going to pass on "traits" they get from surgery. That's stupid. Though you are kind of right, we should try to be as attractive as we can and be healthy by working out and keeping good hygiene. People these days who are considered "beautiful" are actually some of the most unhealthy people. The starve themselves and have eating disorders. They don't live happy lives.

  • @mgstatic91 Yeah, that's what I mean, I'm not saying I'll be any more fit after surgery, I'm still not having children after that, give me a little credit. I may be a bit extreme (when it comes to anything) but there's a kernel of reason in everything I say. it may be blunt to tell people they're too ugly to have kids, but it's true that the better looking someone is, the healthier their genes are.

  • @mgstatic91 I'm just glad I don't need any liposuction (except what is needed when they rearrange my face), I'm tall and thin, I just need a non-ugly face, that's my dream, there's nothing I want more, not even love, I've already broken my heart so that nobody else can take it.

  • the woman at 4:14 is Angeline Jolie xD xD

  • My daughter needs to see this! She so damn vain! It's all a perfect lie!

  • In a interview CIndy Crawford said "she doesn't even look like Cindy Crawford".

  • they should band photoshop or something.. because its caused everybody, who wants to look "perfect", some troubles..like anorexia, and others loosing self-confidence.. for example. /: its pathetic. but thats just my thought.

  • the photoshop guy is wearing a hollister shirt:)

  • ADRIANA LIMA 1:37 SHE IS BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT PS

  • @09JuicyLove Indeed. You barely see the difference :)

  • @3:35

The guy looks like imhotep from the movie: The Mummy (1999) xD

  • I dont know.... ive seen plenty of hot thin, great faced chicks on porn without photoshop....

  • '@laallaal75 Yeah, that's right, because we all know that porn isn't P'Shopped! ;)

  • @ThisIsRedVideo They are videos....can u p'shop a video so she looks more perfect throughout, yeah hollywood can probably but these are shitty home-video cameras.

  • @laallaal75 True, can't Shoop video, at least not without a Hollywood budget.

  • @ThisIsRedVideo HahA! So let it be known to the masses, that true beauty.... is found in porn, i knew humanity could pull through.

  • @laallaal75 Yeah, but heard about MAKE-UP? Dude you can "draw" abs with a make up sponge. You can make yourself get wrinkels with a concealer and you can cover it all upp again with foundation. Trust me, I' in beauty school specialized on make up. It can do anything, with just alot of layers. And they have FAKE BOOBS (not all I guess, but alot) probably butt implant and so on. But yes, There are real beautiful womens out there, they are everywhere. But not as media put it, as we put it

  • @laallaal75 that is why you have slimming filters on cameras... not to mention ones which hide your skin's imperfections.. Then you have the lighting and makeup itself. It works wonders, believe me! <--- photoshop user

  • @laallaal75 Yes, but those girls AREN'T normal. They've had boob jobs and lots and lots of plastic surgery.

  • @laallaal75 Okay, I am a girl asking this question because you've slightly alarmed me. Do men really think you have to be thin to be hot? I mean I'm average sized but would it neccessarily make me hotter if I lost weight? LOL. Well I hope you men have the same problem of having to meet a ridiculously high standard of hotness and all know that us girls will also be expecting YOU to have six packs, be tall and have sexy faces too.

  • @LilyBlueRoman Well 1. I workout and make sure that i stay healthy and fit. I do have a six pack actually. I couldnt let my self get fat...but as for women? It depends. Super skinny chicks i find disgusting, and though its very hot to have the hourglass shape and all, i dont mind a girl with some chub. I dont expect them to have flat stomachs though my current gf does. But honestly, i cant sympathize with fat chicks, i could get fat too but i work on myself not too.

  • @laallaal75 Wow, wasn't expecting such a pront reply, thanks! hah. Well I guess you've answered my question about whether girls HAVE to be thin to be 'hot'.. There's also an inbetween besides being thin and fat actually, but might be different in the USA..

  • @LilyBlueRoman Ah well ya know. I may work out but im still an internet junkie. And i understand the inbetween section its just not really possible to point out in a comment exactly where to draw the line.

  • To all the people that claim they know someone who knows some that is "perfect" Please stop lying to yourselves. No one is perfect everyone, even the most beautiful have a flaw. I bet the person you mentioned hates something about herself that you think is perfect. We should stop seeking out all our flaws, and embrace them because no matter how hard you try you will never be flawless.

  • This is acually funny becuase when you think about it its really just a state of mind what beauty is; there is no REAL definition of beauty, only what YOU think is beautiful; and the same goes for perfection

  • @MagicMan7645

    Totally agree with you.

  • Haha yea! My pic at @1:36 sweet!

  • hey mum! you on youtube?

  • Damn if I could only photoshop myself and the rest of the world, It would defenetly be a better place, well for me at least.

  • that photo in 4.13, the girl's butt is so fake

  • duh offcourse nobody is perfect nobody has great skin ALWAYS people who really think that models look like that in real life are dumb

  • @Giordani25 And why are they dumb? When society shoves a certain image down your throat from the time you enter this world, you are trained to believe that the image is real.

  • @heatherandjoey

well there u say it urself! Because they believe what society serves them ;) U gotta think bigger than that even the news and everything is propaganda u cant believe half of whats out there!

  • Comment removed

  • I've been trying to achieve perfect skin for a long long time now. But after this I have to say I feel way better about my own skin ^_^

  • made me think..

  • This stuff is so true. I know I read Seventeen magazine and people have actually written in about how the ads and models were photoshopped. It's good to know that at least some teens nowadays are understanding that it's not even something they can try to get..

I learned in a sociology class that the end result after photoshopping is about 1-2% of people in real life. SOME people are naturally really thin and beautiful, but it's NOT the norm.

Don't compare yourself to anyone! :)

  • The point of the story is that these women are already very beautiful, and that they are 'shopped to a level of beauty that is unobtainable by mortals.

It's not about taking mediocre women and making them prettier.

Before PS Photographers did a more careful job making the models look better, and then airbrush artists physically fixed zits, pores and little things like that, but generally the result was still a real woman.

PS can create a standard of beauty that is unreal and unobtainable

  • @ThisIsRedVideo MORTALS? SO THE WOMEN IN THE ADS ARE NOT MORTAL? OR THEY ARE MORTAL PHOTOSHOPPED TO LOOKED BETTER? THEN THEY MUST NOT LOOK AS GOOD A THEYRE TRYING TO MAKE OUT THEN.YOU ARE STILL NOT GETTING THE POINT THAT NOBODY IS PERFECT AND EVEN THOSE MODELS LOOK LIKE CRAP TOO ON OCCASION JUST LIKE ANYBODY ELSE. IT IS SAD THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO THIS. THIS IS MAKING LITTLE GIRLS AND WOMEN VERY INSECURE ABOUT THEMSELVES SMDH

  • @mimi42428 I must not have been clear in my post, because I was trying to make the same point that you did. That is, the truly unobtainable image of beauty that can be created in PS can make girls and women feel insecure. Whats worse, this is not done in a misguided attempt to create beautiful images, but to deliberately make people feel insecure so they will feel driven to purchase the products advertised.

Perhaps next time I will TYPE IN ALL CAPS SO PEOPLE CAN UNDERSTAND!

  • @ThisIsRedVideo ok :-)

  • but that does not mean that there are not a women that have perfect bodies and amazing hair and pretty faces without a photoshop

the women that I'm talkin about are not even famous

they are just women were born looking great and takin good care of thier looks and I know alot

  • I've seen girls who really do look like that in real life intact some are my friends there models. Especially an Asian girl I knew, when she went for a shoot they didn't need to do anything to her skin, her skin was literaly flawless in real life.

  • I feel a new "You Know What's Bullshit?!" episode coming on!

  • That's exactly what I thought!!!!

  • i want this fotoshop :D

  • This is all for men. All men want a woman who is 5'7 110 lbs, size 00, and with triple F boobs and hair down to their asses. The photshopped/airbrushed images feed men their ration of porn and plastic women that they love to look at in lingere catalogues to Hustler, and women perpetuate it by not complaining when products are hawked to US using these pathetic techniques! Take care of your body by eating living foods, exercising and thinking good thoughts about yourself. This will end one day.

  • All men? You sure about that?

  • Great video, more messages like this need to be sent out. I too let the images in the media get to me, and I wish I could look like them. These images are out there to make us hate ourselves and we have to stop hating ourselves!

  • wow beyonce

  • @SaUcEiTuPbItCh, no one, not even supermodels look like that. They're photoshopped as well dear. Everyone has pores...end of story.

  • OMG!!! Koda Kumi at 4:23

  • I don't understand why it took 6 hours.

  • I remember the first time I saw that dove commercial, I cried.

  • i favourited it..best video so far.

  • supermodels do look like that though, when they start to have problem areas they are outed

  • Sadly, supermodels are the ones that get photoshopped even more! Their diets and lifestyle mean that their skin, teeth, hair, nails, eyes etc are so bad, so unhealthy that without photoshop and make-up they just look ill.

  • Add in plastic surgery that some of the most famous celebs have had and don't admit to, and the problem gets even worse. So sad. Great video.

  • This is so incredible! Wow, I thank the person that made this video. You're awesome.

  • sorry, i meant to agree with your comment. not dislike it!

  • The only bad thing about photoshop is that celebrities already have hair stylists, good skin, and everything else. When you photoshop your average joe, you can make them look like a celebrity, but when you photoshop a celebrity, they look like a goddess. i guess what i am trying to say is, photoshop helps everyone looks better.

  • a lot of celebs are ugly has hell...just look up celebs without makeup and you'll see what i'm talking about. many of these celebs were cute when they were younger and they make hollywood a lot of money so they found ways of keeping them looking young and sexy.

  • true

  • celebrities are humans like everyone else, and a lot of them as such. Also, celebs can pay for surgery, etc., to make themselves look "better".

  • yes celebrities have access to more things than normal people, i have mentioned that

  • EWW. MARIAH CAREY IS SOME WRINKLY COUGAR. BLEHHHHHHHHHHHhh. NOBODY WANNA TOUCH YO BODY WOMAN! lmfao.

  • Most of those models in magazines look downright ugly because they're so skinny. So you're 5'10" and 120 lbs and think I want to bang you? Eat some food and give me a call when you don't look like a starving freak.

  • @quailroberts: they wont let them bang you. trust me ;)

  • I think its gone way to over the top, those women are pretty and photoshop just makes it look more pristine and perfect,

but overall those people ACTUALLY are PRETTY, have a unique face, body and such

people need to get over their insecurities and sstop this whole "PEOPLE ARE FAKE IN MAGAZINES" personally i am not effected my media because I am NOT insecure about the way i look

stop blaming others and look inward!

  • Comment removed

  • I work with that and believe me, even if a model is already very beautiful, you will change her photo very hard before it reaches a standard acceptable to publish in a magazine...

  • 4:22 its koda kumi! lol that was surprising..

  • Not like the presentator was bad looking in the first place..

  • omg 4:15 is rediculous

  • seriously - why do all these people think they are being *told to look a certain way* ??

it's a picture in a *magazine*, not a *bible*! lol!

people shouldn't take everything they see so seriously, embrace what they have and get over it

  • Hey! This piece just received an Emmy Award for Video Editing!

  • i agree with Pseudologic you can complain all you want but the industry wont change... its good to make people aware that it is happening but its the world of today. its to sell a product, and the celebrities and models in the magazines are still beautiful and have amazing bodies ( most of the time ) photo shop just takes beautiful to perfect.

  • yes, it might not ever change but it is deceptive and wrong to the use feelings of inadequacy and/or insecurity that young girls (and older women too... and sometimes even guys, oh heck.. EVERYONE) feels, to increase their profit margin.

  • I agree.. 9.9

  • I don't think they're gonna ask you whether they should or not complain. You're just not that important.

  • your obviously a wanker !

  • an interesting note is..."perfect body" What determines a "perfect body"? think about it for a moment.....

  • A "Perfect Body" is the body which you do not have, but which you might have if you use these products.

  • but who created the image of the perfect body?

  • Perfect body is the one that generates more sales for your product.

  • i dun really like models the seem to think they are perfect well NOT all the models think like that.

what im trying to say is just stay whit the beuty u have ._. just like i do

  • the video that starts at 2:27.. whats the name of it?

  • There are two videos from Dove/Uniliver that were used in this news story. The first is called "Evolution" and the next (the one you asked about) is called "Onslaught" You can find them by googling "Dove" and "campaignforrealbeauty"

  • there's nothing perfect O_O'''

  • AWESOME, FANTASTIC, NICE VIDEO!!!

  • see...I wouldn't call it a perfectly lie, because all changes are subtle. the lighting, the makeup, the blur, etc etc etc...these models are already hot to begin with.

if you want to see the perfect lie, go to the search bar in youtube and search "photoshop extreme makeover" click the old lady thumbnail....that's the perfect lie hahaha

  • i think what people fail to realize is putting on makeup is no different then photoshopping a picture.

  • @offwhitewalls I agree that makeup is as bad as photoshop. I say this as one of the few women who actually shows the world what i REALLY look like. And guess what? People still find me attractive. I wish more women would stop insisting on lying about what they really are. The sad thing is, men continue to fall for it again and again... lol...

  • no one is perfect!

  • megan fox is! and michelle phan!

  • okay Megan Fox is beautiful, but not perfect, she did worst than photoshop, she did surgery (nose and boobs) she is photoshopped in real life. Its sad because she really didnt need that....

  • iam

  • iam

  • I`m a performing artist and photoshop is never used on my pictures, because I perform live so there is very little to be altered. I use make up, but I still have to have the perfect body, the perfect hair and so on. It can be done, but it`s a lot of work and money, but does not require surgery or dieting. To look good, you have to be smart enough to think for yourself and not buy every single thing you see in ad`s.

  • haha pause at 4"13 funniest ass ever

  • omg!! its like an insult to celerberties!!!! remove their wrinkles and body fat they are just making them feel better BUT!! they are trying to say that they are really fat, old , and ugly agg!!

  • I actually liked the before picture better than the after.

  • Youre totally wrong... you can photoshop a video too! you can a lot of tricks to a video to make people look good... read more! before talking like that!

  • Note CAN. If you knew how to make videos / commercials you'd realize that that to make a makeup / hair product ad with MUCH motion in is nearly impossible. Pictures and videos are two different things, so are Photoshop and video editing programs. If you would photoshop a video, you would mess up the whole background, the whole video, everything. It would take like 4 months to finish 2 minutes.

I don't say anything against the video, or for the video. Just replied to idiot above me.

  • You're right, there are people who look like models, but that percentage is only about 2%. If someone looks perfect, they are either extremely lucky, or have, more probably, done things such as diet or use makeup to make themselves look that way. The point that these types of videos are trying to make, is that you don't need to look like that 2% to be happy with yourself.

  • Its really sad how young girls ( I see them at my store) keep talking about how they wanna look like the star on the mag when I just know its all fake, its true, there is no such woman like that in reality.

  • Yeah, it is very, very sad. Look at who their role models are...scary.

  • Yea, I'm always sure to tell my cousins that not to look up to stars, cause theyre looks may be beautiful in mags, but its mostly lies.

  • I understand that people are defending the 'marketing' perspective of things but, little girls don't understand that and little boys don't understand it either. It effects both genders with unrealistic body images and desires.

  • retouching accentuates the fashion/editorial photography business from an art perspective. if you look at those photos and don't understand this, it is your lack of knowledge. not the industry lying. yes, the magazines lie to get you to buy products, the news lies to get you to watch there journalism. but you can't blame the retouchers, they are being hired to provide an image. more consumers purchase these products when these forms are executed. herd the sheep, sell them a product.

  • 4:13 wtf is that?

  • what is the name of this photoshop and dose it cost

  • Not sure I understand the question. Photoshop is an image creation/manipulation program owned by Adobe. To get a copy look for "Adobe Photoshop CS4" or steal a version off limewire or somesuch.

Photoshop is a noun, the name of a computer program. "To photoshop" has become a verb, meaning to manipulate an image.

  • All photoshops cost alot of money, the newest one out costs aruond $400, but if you know where to go, you can get it free

  • 4:15

    Oh-my-gosh..

You can tell that's SO fake...

Her arms are like 2 inches across...

    And her tummy...

    SHEEESH!!

  • doesn't this just make you feel like you only have to work harder? Like..these models have a whole staff of people to do their hair, makeup, photoshop them, etc. and the average person only has to do it on their own. But it doesn't actually relieve the pressure to look like a model.
