  • Hey dude,

thank you for sharing this video with us. I thought I heard a difference, especially in the higher notes ... But it could be you that made the difference because you knew which flute you were playing.

    Greetings,

    Benjamin

  • Please excuse me if I don't know what I am speaking of but You sound like "you" on both. Fuel for the camp that argues that the sound an instrument makes is all about the bore and inside spaces and not the materials the instrument is made of. I am always doing "taste tests" for my husband the bassoonist. I think my ear is attuned to subtle differences but I could be wrong. I have heard that a really great player could play on some plumber's pipe and still sound good! What's your impression?

  • As you understand, the player is most important than the instrument and the material has a small influence.Such a comparison would have no sense if the music AND the player were not the same. The famous James Galway's 16 flutes test youtube.com/watch?v=G0n3n3N3SOY shows that fact far better than I can do, even if the flutes he tested are not at all "plumber's pipes" ! In that little video I just had in mind to experiment more current models of the same brand played by an ordinary instrumentist.
