  • This is great. Thanks alot.

  • i was hoping to hear some stuff about common law

  • lol he dies in battle so he deletes him lmao

  • you said middle age government was strong, you are sooo wrong!!! government was weak, the monarch was the one who did what he wanted to without the government. there was no point of a government, untill Thomas Cromwell changed all that during the 1530's

  • thanks man it helped alot... i was bored lol jk

  • i have an exam on the Magna Carta in 3 days and this upload has made it so clear.

    Thanks Mr.Zoller!

  • 4:16 'counts' means the County, like Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Wessex, etc; etc:

  • @Zero7evenX

Middlesex is the funniest name I have come across.

  • @SeventhSun lol, There's a village in England called 'little brown willy' (might be with an *ie instead of a *y)

  • Best social studies class i ever took.

  • Lovely explanation! Thank you!

  • very interesting love your video sir

  • Democracy made sense when the masses read, and read the right stuff. Democracy in the United States, land of ignorant masses, no longer makes sense. See the Nazi government, lovers of animals and nature, a totalitarian regime.

  • The Magna Carta has it's roots in King Alfred the Great, HE was the first King to bring the different laws and customs of all of England together, he was not called Alfred the Great for nothing. Google Albert Burgess, he is a retired police man and he is a very knowledgeable man on the history of England, he is also using the Magna Carta to have all of the British government arrested for HIGH TREASON! go check him out.

  • we had to watch this in history

  • the point is do something people, you have the power too

  • But all in all I get it :)

    Thanks fot that

  • I dont get why Magna Carta has something to do with America...

  • @julZgermany1990 Because Magna Carta was one of the first big attempts by ordinary people to control the power of those in power and has formed the basis for all constitutions ever since including the American system.

  • @julZgermany1990 From what I've gathered the Magna Carta was one of the first instances where the the line between the ruler and ruled was written down to be honoured. This would naturally be an important stepping stone to any Democracy, wherein there is a point made about just how far the power of the 'ruler' (or government) is allowed to encroach on the rights of the ruled.

  • @Articuno76 Code of Hammurabi fits your desription too. The Magna carta was the first legal document to limit the Monarch's authority since the fall of the roman empire.

  • Here in America, BASED on results

today (2011) we're BACK to 'COUNTS'

and 'The People' once again don't have

'Magna Carta' or 'Constitution' type rights

(thanks to The BIRTH CERTIFICATE 'contract'

scheme 'put in place' in 1933 by Congress)

  • I love teachers who actually make the content they're teaching interesting! Though I already got a basic interest in history for some reason so it wasn't too difficult to find interest, not to mention the Magna Carta and American Constitution are being shat on these days so it's good to know basic rights. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, and we are repeating history as our rights are stripped and corruption is taking hold. History in the making, check 'TheAlexJonesChannel'.

  • that sounds like a CAKE song at the beginning

  • time. It made perfectly clear to all men that no man is so powerful that he cannot be removed permanently if need be. The power is ultimately with the electorate??? Surely you must mean the Electorial College. Don't bother argueing with me about the history statements Mr. Zoller. 14 members of my family signed the Magna Carta.

  • @DeductiveReason The "electoral college" only elects the President. Senators and Congressmen are elected directly. So are mayors, city councilmen, governors, state representatives...I think you are making the same myopic mistake that most people do when they assume that the president is the only office with authority and power to rule under the Constitution...not true. The electoral college is a statistical manipulator at best, but mostly has agreed with popular votes.

  • WilliamI....WilliamII....Stephen....HenryI....HenryII.....Richard.....John.....EdwardI....EdwardII....EdwardIII,etc. The most important thing the Magna Carta did was make it illegal for Jewish bankers to loan money with interest. It made loaning houses take the same risks we all do in a loan contract. It also forbid widows to leave their husbands estates to charlatans/the church without permission of their children (their husbands inheritors). This was done to protect children during war....

  • they didnt teach this in high school,st.louis,mo..

  • thx, this rlly helped me!!! :D

  • skipped king richard.....

  • @stealthX79

fill us in?? dont just say that...tell us... if you know...

  • @kaysho

king richard succeded king henry II and became king of england

he is otherwise known as richard the lionheart the famous crusader, he increased relations with the papacy by going on the crusade.

he died while fighting the french (uncertain different sources say different deaths)

he was succeded by his brother king john

  • U DONT EVEN SAY IT RIGHT WTF

  • its the magna CAAAARTA

say it like your on jersey shore

  • Nice video but you know what's even more interesting? That justine Bieber has over 100 Million views on one of his songs and this video has only 16,566! NICE, now we know whats more important!

  • @Slayerfan84 well cuz people who watch justin bieber are stupid, while people who watch this are studying which means they're smart.

  • jesus existed, but the bit about him being who he is made out to be, is questionable internationally. robin hood however has been classified as questionable. there are no stuck records, unlike jesus's presence in roman times

  • Thanks for posting this MrZoller! This video is much more entertaining than just reading my history book. lol :]

  • What happened to King Richard, the crusade, and Robin Hood?

  • @papalolita robinhood never existed

  • @MadHobbit /robinhood did exist. Some of the info on him is made up, but it's hard for the scientice to dedermin which is legend and what is fact. Just letting you know papaalolita :D

  • @isaac06410231 there is no evidence at all he ever existed, only folk tales

  • i love your explaination. clearer than the wikipedia. i'll subscribe :)

  • henry the first is gonna...the finances???

  • Awsome, I think with this info I can get an A on my assignment!

    THANKS MrZoller!

  • thanks, now i know what to write for my homework

  • Start-up music is ftw.

  • hey frost don't be mean. thank you mr.zoller for an interesting video. you're like a fun substitute teacher.

  • The Magna Carta did not mention the term "citizen". Not once.

What it does mention is the "free men" (the People).

The Great Charter (the Magna Carta, 1215) limits the powers, domain and jurisdiction of the established powers, so that they don't overstep their powers and don't infringe on the unalienable rights of the "free men".

This was one foundation of the "free men" (People)'s unalienable rights at common law and natural freedoms.

  • @kuriokazuki "free-men" did not include the serfs, or tenant farmers...it was a name only applied to landed men...and I MEAN "men"! So this document did NOT grant rights and freedoms to all in 1215. It does, interestingly have the first reference of which I am aware, of a right for women, specifically indicating that widows may remain single if they choose, but MUST seek the approval of their liege should they choose to remarry.

  • that John was not fit to wear chainmail ! nor was he much of a diplomat! because of his actions, he blew it at the Irish peace conferance. all the chieftains were ready to swear fealty to London!! then Johnny pulls up in his boat. they look at him, he looks at them, sees the wild Irish hair and beards and starts laughing!!! result, a war. a long dirty ugly war of axes in the night. no road was safe.

  • 1:10:.....the Magna Carta only protected nobles from bigger nobles like the king! it didnt do squat for john the barrel maker!

  • @acerb45666555 you got it!

  • errr raaaw

  • thanks for your video, great help and visual aid! i'm just not so sure about the "the electorate has all the power!" that's a little naive isn't it?

  • Awesome Mr. Zoller I appreciate you're effort and homework is so much better like this, when you basically give us the answers.

  • I saw a copy of this at the royal archives in Washington D.C. The print was very faint and hard to read, if not in a different language. It was pretty cool; in the same hallway that led to the rotunda where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were kept. Flash from cameras weren't allowed.

  • It was written in Latin.
