I'm Mexican but there's no doubt in my mind that in New York I'd suddenly be perceived as Puerto Rican. If I were in Florida, I would automatically be Cuban. It's Ok, I don't take offense to that. All we have to do is politely correct the people that mistakenly label us :)

@Jordan56853 En los diccionarios vienen unos símbolos que te indican cómo hacerlo, la verdad es que con la práctica es como van saliendo. Me refiero a jugar un poquito con los sonidos. Por ejemplo, "dock" se pronuncia como una combinación entre nuestro sonido de "a" y "o", y "duck" se simboliza con algo llamado "shoah" o algo así, que es como la combinación entre "a" y "e", es muy suave también.

@Jordan56853 Continío jeje: Ese último es mucho más claro en el inglés británico, por ejemplo cuando dicen algo como "better" suena como "betta". Igual, no es lo mismo en la pronunciación entre "Hot", "Hat" y "Hut", la primera va con una "a" normalita (fíjate bien cuando algún nativo la pronuncie), la segunda suena como una "a" y "e" pero fueres abriendo bien la boca, mucho más parecida a nuestra "a" y la última en realidad va con "o" :)

You say that Latinamerican accents have a common root... True, but beyond that all accents when speaking Spanish have a common way of pronouncing, that's why we speak the same language and we understand each other without additional education. I'm talking about phonology. For example nobody tends to say the word "R" like us. Not many people start the words "school" or "smart" saying "escul" or "esmart". Almost everybody who speaks Spanish tends to do that kind of things when speaking English...

Ok, so now when someone tells me "you got a Spanish accent" I have to say "No, my accent is Venezuelan"... BULLSHIT! I live in US and nobody has ever said to me "you got a Venezuelan accent when you speak English". Maybe some smart american get when someone has an accent from Spain, Mexico or Venezuela if they speak Spanish for any reason, but most of them would never notice that person speaks English with a specific accent from Latin America or Spain, so it would be just Spanish accent.

But I totally disagree, and it will be that way until the day that people from US or UK (most of them) realize the difference among accents from every country in Latin America and Spain. That day is not today for sure, and that day I will say "My accent is not Spanish, is Venezuelan". Merry Christmas!
