  • she shows about as much affinity for the violin as doing weekly gardening - oh hum, a little paganini, a little gardening

  • what a huge bore - snore - some kind of temperament might help

  • Todos ustedes, genios de la mnúsica, hacen que la vida casi valga la pena.

  • this is what we call a CADENZA :)

  • She was blinded by money.

"Classical violinist Akiko Suwanai's £240,000 unpaid tax bill", The Telegraph, 13 Jul 2011

  • @thisisnotrinkardo gets higher in concerto 3,4 5 n 6

  • does anyone prefer the young suwanai over the grown up as a violinist?

  • this is the cadenza part

  • those strings looks very high off the fingeroboard, lots of harmonics and sustain

I cannot imagined what itd be like to watch the real paganini on stage

People back then in late 1700 were so freak out no wonder they said he sold his soul to the devil..

  • Her technique and clarity and bowing technique is so magnificent and amazing but I would say that her musicality and her emotional input is not yet fully mature

  • @freeqwerqwer

"... I would say that her musicality and her emotional input is not yet fully mature"

Why do you feel the need to say that about a 18 year old violinist? That's a rhetorical question by the way.

We have all seen a million Youtubers, like yourself, that feel the need to make some negative comment about someone 100x more skilled/talented than yourself. Sorry to call you out but I am tired of it.

  • @Galactu5 , I was once a violinist at 18 but with nowhere close the technical ability of this gifted violinist, but I had better musical intuition than hers. Believe me. She initially impresses people, but she will soon be forgotten because she lacks musicality and imagination. She doesn't play in the Italian style, has misplaced accents all over. She may be 18 but she'd started the violin most likely at 3, so she has had ample years to develop her musicality. I prefer Arcado for Paganini

  • @leopianotuner

"..., but I had better musical intuition than hers. Believe me..." - Leopianotuner

Can you prove that? By the way she has a number of CDs on Decca to your zero number of CDs? Which isn't to suggest you aren't a fine or even great musician, but let's just be honest here. She has become a professional soloist since this competition 21 years ago. You sound jealous.

You may indeed prefer Arcado, just as I prefer oranges over papayas, but nobody cares about what you or I prefer.

  • @leopianotuner

I'm sorry, but my real gripe is that you seem like you have something positive to add in your comments due to your perceived knowledge but you you just come off as pompous like so many others on youtube. I guess I shouldn't take this so personally, but I do expect more from lovers of classical music. Perhaps this is my fault and not yours or anyone else. Accept my apology for digging in to you in these comments.

  • Amazing! Paganini was the Eddie Van Halen of his time!

  • wooww .... wonderful !

  • Perfectly played cadenza ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hyuque sauret's

  • Comment removed

  • 0:47~It is very wonderful.

  • whose cadenza is it?

  • I want her technique!

  • beautiful double harmonics

  • damned!this is f.....g awesome!

  • There's no applause because there are still two more movements.

  • @mattlee3491

    i would have given applause...

  • that's a cadenza and a half right there!

  • this is real good but it's funny as soon as they stop playing people start coughing like they have been holding it in the whole time

  • As we all know Paganini is one of the hardest composers to replicate, this young girl was fantastic and could show a few seasoned players a thing or two.

  • This young lady won Tchaikovsky and still Good violiniste.

  • Who wrote this condenza? seems it's the most popular one.

  • Emile Sauret, but keep in mind that most soloists adapt the cadenza a little to suit their performances. In fact, this is the closest to original score of the cadenza that I've listened to.

  • @Orchadorkcello goog to know, this cadenza is harder than the entire concerto...

  • What ever age she is or what ever country she is from, you only play like this when it comes from your soul.

  • Damn, i wish there would've been a huge round of applause after that. It was such an incredible climax. Akiko is AMAZING!!! I would love to see her live. Does anyone know if she'll be at Lincoln Center any time soon?

  • why no applause? That was awesome!

  • this. is. amazing.

  • well damn...

  • What is with all you people saying this or that person is better? If you don't like it then stop watching it.

  • Kavakos is an amazing player , but he had many years of experience on the violin she is still at a young age and plays like a prodigy.

and it is not about comparing violinist its just listening to a great composition by paganini played by a great violinist

  • No kavakos was 21 probably the same age or even younger than her, when he won the paganini competition

  • No. No, Kavakos was born in 1967, and Suwanai was born in 1972. So, she is 5years younger than Kavakos.

Kavakos won 1st prize of the paganini competition 1988, and the 2nd prize was given to 16year old Suwanai. At that time, Kavakos was already well known, but Suwanai was an unknown Japanese highschool student.

She also won 2nd prize Queen Elisabeth Competition 1989, while the 1st prize went to Repin.

And finally she won the 1st prize of this Tchaikovsky Competition 1990.

  • Kavakos was 20 or 21yers old when he won the paganini competition, while Suwanai was 18 yeras old when she won the Tchaikovsky Competiton.

  • did she win?

  • Yes.

  • I think that's pretty obvious xD!

  • Radubradu wouldn't have asked if she/he didn't know.

  • Amazing playing! 0_o I'm astonished by your playing!

  • Ya she takes the time to SAVOR the flavor.

  • This is the best interpretation of the cadenza i've heard yet. I think this is exactly how it's supposed to sound. I noticed in Kogan and Perlman's recordings that they take it really fast and don't "savor the moment" or "love" the piece.

  • one word: committment

  • which cadenza is this?

  • Emile Sauret´s.

  • bubbe for my ear

  • Great playing! A great future violinist, Paganini himself could'nt do better! BRAVO, I will give her a standing ovation! This concerto is difficult to play considering her age and many well known, famous violinist admitted they could'nt do it!!! World, get ready for Akiko!

  • lol at 4:30, the audience members look bored out of their minds. I don't blame them though. This movement takes about 23 minutes total. Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing piece and in my opinion Paganini's greatest work, but even to a fellow musician it's quite uncomfortable listening to one movement (let alone one piece) for this long.

  • @Orchadork: Thanks for not saying a "broken violin" being played. I ahve seen these kind of stupid comments before.

Good thing about YouTube is you can watch the great performance that you have never thought you could watch it with your own eyes.

Bad thing is any idiot can make retarded comment.

  • XD

    I agree.

She plays beautifully, and this is just a really pretty piece, but considering it's so cool, everything just sounds the same after a while.

And I don't have an attention span that strong.

    x-x

  • Oi.

I mean "considering it's so long".

    >.>

  • No way would I be bored. I'd be transfixed in awe! I've seen the tchaikovsky violin concerto played live and I consider it one of the most inspiring moments of my life. I'd no doubt think the same if I were to have been there to see this! It's all up to the individual though I guess.

  • @Orchadorkcello I highly disagree. I would be awed, and would, for sure, be loving the interpretation. It doesn't matter how long it is, if the music is beautiful :D It makes my soul rejoice!

  • thousand thumbs UP to her. Fancy remember SO MANY notes especially adjusting herself quickly to maddening fast notes! A true talent

  • great performance

definitely right up there with Kogan

and at such a young age

    wonderful

  • Thanks to paanyax for sharing this precious video. After all these years, it still has been difficult to believe she was just 18 years old when she did this.

Akiko Suwanai is God's blessing. We all love her.

  • Her everything is so good. Favorite cadenza ever.

  • translate please?

  • Oh My God!!

  • LOL The 1st movement took 3 parts of 5...

But the cadenza is magnificent... 9999999 stars....

  • omg she plays it so origional and it sounds so fantastic and amazing. this video it soooooo worth it

  • This is by Sauret. It seems to be the standard choice for this concerto. Paganini did not write down any of his candenzas.

  • Who wrote this Condenza? this is a real one; Paganini would appreciate that!

This lady is so confident, no any showing off, wonderful!

  • Is this "her" cadenza or is it a prewritten one. I haven't played this concerto so I'm not sure if anything about the cadenza, but I think I'm right in that Paganini didn't write his own for this concerto because I've heard others played

  • it's the original cadenza, I believe, Perlman plays it in his recording but its abbreviated cadenza, there is another video or Fodor playing it, it's the same one...

  • ok, thanks. I thought I recognized it. I know I've heard different ones so I wasn't sure.

  • It is Sauret`s cadenza.

  • É maravilhosa e que técnica, eim?

    Merece nossos aplausos, quem sabe

um dia aparece aqui pelo Brasil.

    Seria ótimo!!!!

  • dumfounded

o keman yayını alır anasının götüne sokarım oruspu kancık yavşak amcık çinliler nefret ediyorum

  • Toca muito bem, porém "robozinho"!

  • Ok! She plays awesome. But please listen Sarah Chang's recording at age of 12, it's better. And she has a video at age of 15, much perfect! Sarah Chang is absolutely amazing!..

  • ok. I'm going to listen

  • Don't get me wrong, I think sarah chang is amazing, but I don't care much for her recording of this, or any of them for that matter. Her musicianship is outstanding but her sound isn't that great; too squeeky. Although I think that if she had a different setup, it would be a different case.

  • This cadenza is the most beautiful thing in the world for me. I became feelings that had been taken to the fantastic world somewhere hearing a beautiful melody from especially 3:19.

  • she is amazing and so beautiful girl!

but she was not so lucky at ather competition..

at the paganini competition she won 2nd pz(1st Leonidas Kavakos) and also 2nd at the queen elisabeth(1st Vadim Repin)...

    but I love her!

    Amazing!

  • at the paganini competition she was 16 years old,

at the queen elisabeth she was 17 yeas old,

at the Tchaikovsky Competition she was 18 yeas old,

and she was the youngest winner of the Competition.

  • GAH!!

    amazing cadenza!!

    just like sarah chang!!

  • If you prefer Fodor than place posting at Fodor's, please shot up here.

  • Who made you the troll?

  • She was eighteen here?

  • Yes, she was.

She was the youngest winner of the Competition(and I believe she has still been the youngest winner). All the members of the jury voted her for the first prize.

  • wow!

  • I call her "Paganini Hands". Yeah, the long hands and she is blessed with the gift of an amazing touch and superabundant tone quality.

  • i'm speechless!

  • A 5:44 min miralce! I ran out of tears!

    Zareh Darakjian, Ph.D.

  • thank you very much for posting this.

what a wonderful violinist! amazing cadenza:)

  • Hello ! Please upload the other parts ( especially the 3rd movement) to complete this precious video. Thanks !!

  • can you upload the other two parts? Thanks a lot!

  • Sweet!
