My best friends uncle was on this team, bill baker. My uncle played hockey with rob mclannahan and bill baker and steve janazcak and some others at the U of M
we must give america their little moment. With the demographic charts being what they are, with the dollar being what it is, and with jobs fleeing abroad, something has to make america feel good about itself (besides dropping a bomb on a third-world country, of course)
Funny: until certain american hockey fans started talking smack, I was going to post something nice about their win over the commies

Unfortunately you are correct about America's problem. Shit is about 90% of the Americans ignore this and continue on living like America is everlasting.
let's be honest: if the americans could actually win more than once in a blue moon, this game wouldn't resonate so much. Still, as much as listening to some american hockey fans is like listening to fingernails scratching a chalkboard, I still prefer seeing them win than the russians/soviets.
That said, there is one nation at the top of the summit in this sport when it comes to hockey history and it's not the soviets, the swedes (though they did win in torino), the czechs or the americans
@bruceleedisciple No disrespect. It's your greatest moment. It can't be mine, b/c I am Canadian. OUR greatest moment in hockey is Pete Henderson's game winning goal in the last game of the '72 Can-Rus Series It's as symbolic to us as '80 is to you. I'll never forget it. I was in Gr 7; the whole school was in the gym watching two TV's. Almost every other school in Canada was the same. The game was on every TV in the country. When he scored, everyone exploded. All across Canada. Wow.
@wilmanric1 Cool, I apologize if I came across as arrogant. See, I play pickup hockey down here in southern California, and a lot of canadian guys play with us and all they do is trash talk American Hockey, they say our country doesn't belong in hockey and to stick to baseball. I always bring up the Miracle On Ice, because it is widely known not only as the best moment in hockey, but in sports, and it shuts them up pretty quick.
I'm really sorry to hear about that; there's no point in people trash-talking anyone. Every Canadian can remember playing in a backyard rink until his toes froze. Hockey has a mythic quality to us; like maybe baseball is to some Americans. It's our "Field of Dreams". That's why we get so passionate about it. Not because we're good at it, but because it's in our childhood. Mind you, we don't feel passionate about freezing our asses off waiting for the bus....
@wilmanric1 Honestly, Im not so caught up in arguing about it with any of those guys anymore, as you can see, I wrote that comment over 2 years ago, and since then my hockey skills have improved, and I don't need to talk on the ice to back myself up anymore, I just play the game.
Just another bitter Canadian. Don't be bitter because Canada didn't even qualify to play at the 1980 Olympics, man. Just be happy because you can jump on USA's coattails.
yea it should be called a miracle if 20 college kids beat the best team in the world a week after losing to them 10-3, and after the soviets beat the rangers, islanders and nordiques earlier that year.
Actually, this is a huge compliment to the Soviet Union, that the "Miracle" has endured for 25 years. If we had beaten just anybody, it would have been long since forgotten.
Just went to homecoming with Marks daughter!

why if it wasn't for the US military-industrial complex, how many americans wouldn't be able to find gainful employment?
Serving as cannon-fodder apparently beats nothing, I guess

Eruzione of course, is known as the hero for the game-winner, but MJ's pair of goals gave Eruzione that opportunity.

Haha, you're mad that the US took the greatest moment in your countries sport.

@bruceleedisciple
No, we've had lots of great moments in hockey. In fact, so many that we don't feel the need to make a movie with the word "miracle" in the title.

@wilmanric1 Say what you want, but the USA still has the gresteast moment in your country's sport.
