use fraps, i play wow on a netbook(which is known for poor hardware performance on gaming), and screen record my gameplay with fraps and it runs crazy smooth, no lag at all. get a torrented version because the free version limits the length of the video to something like 10 seconds.

Thanks very much!!! 5/5 Stars. I had Camtasia Pro but with all options tweaks it still records choppy video and SWF screen captures. But your recommended software called AviScreen Classic or Insta AVI Screen Capture was very excellent at capturing the SWF and Video smoothly. You saved my life!

I tried aviscreen along side of cam studio and chose cam studio and uninstalled aviscreen.Reasons: ease of operation and data load

Nice video. The software does support compression though (mentioned briefly at the end of the video), you can use codecs installed on your system (lagarith lossless, Divx, etc.). I find I get a higher frame rate with compression than without (I have a pretty old computer). I agree it could use audio capture as well.

try hitting ctr+altS to start taking video

or just click the shotr cut tap and click the arrow under shotr-cut keys for all the stuff

I made my "How to Setup and Use Remote Desktop in Vista" and "How to Strip DRM" videos in CamStudio. The only problem was getting the audio and video to sync up, but I just took the un-combined audio and video files and combined them in Movie Maker, then saved them as a WMV.

I take the uncompressed video and then convert it to WMV with Windows Movie Maker.

I'm actually using CamStudio now, though. I think it's much better.
