Lol, people fail to realize that also this is an amazing snare sound, it's RIDICULOUSLY easy to achieve. Get a maple snare drum, 14 X 5.5, 14 X 6.5, and 14 X 4 will work best. Get a medium or a thin weight resonant head, and a premuffled batter head (Evans Power Center Reverse Dot and Remo Coated Controlled Sound work the best). Crank both heads up very high. Set the snares to as loose as you can get them. Boom baby.

As far as I'm concerned Coleman is one of the best drummers in the world, Top 5 on my list to be sure. You can probably find me someone who is more technically amazing (although I doubt it) but you this guy has an ear and a sense of composition that I haven't heard since maybe Buddy Rich.

I generally am bored by drums solos...this is a solo performance...there's a difference.

@Zappafan1980 Some advice: Listen to a solo in context of what the artist is communicating to the audience. Don't make generalizations, it suggests that you're not an educated drummer. There are a lot of solos of Chris on You Tube with tons of fire power (double bass configurations, speed, syncopation, multi layers of complex rhythms and interdependency, etc. that you I assume refer to mentioning names like Minnemann. By the way, I am an educated drummer and have been playing for 40 years.
