  • god bless phillo

  • When I hear him start singing this melody I just get a feeling inside. Somebody shoulda grabbed a hold of him, strapped the MF down and saved his life somehow! But sadly no one is too blame but right here is some real talent lost

  • Thanks for sharing all this wonderfull music,

I was a youngster in the 70's and the early 80's (old boy)

I just love Phil lynnot and Thin Lizzys music, I still have most of their music on vinyl

I remember an interview with Phil and a song i haven't been able to fine ever after

It was mentioned as the protest song and Phil had to get drunk to find the agression, it was recorded 04.00 - 05.00 in the morning

Can anyone help me to find this magical piece ?

  • Reminds me of JADED by Aerosmith

  • @MEro4815162342 NO!!! Jaded reminds you of DEDICATION.

  • Tears in my eyes.

    What a band!!

  • Dedication was written by Laurence Archer who toured with Lizzy and was also with Philo in Grand Slam after lIzzy's break up, just thought I would share that info.Long Live Philo!!!!!!!!

  • Forgot to thank Brian Downey for recording the drums on this for its final release, thanks Brian.

  • it sounds like Phils voice is layered. multi tracks I think it's called. Thanks to Scott and Robbo for the great finished product they produced. I bought the Dedication Cd in like 1991 when it was released. Keep up the good work blacksabfan.

  • So, which vocal track did they finally use for the "final product" version of 'Dedication'? Because this doesn't quite sound like it.

  • Awesome! I'm a 28 year old fan! Still remember the day when I was five back in '86 when my father told he passed away. Long live Phil!!!

  • I remember way back in grade 10 a friend lent me Thunder and Lightning. I started listening to it, little did I know my life had changed permanently.

When I got to the 4 track on the tape, The Holy War, I was hooked. Unfortunately, less than 4 years later Phil passed away.

  • I must have listened to this song atleast 25 times in the past week & each time I get chills......one word MAGIC!

  • I'm glad you like it. I have a better quality version of this. I should put it up.

  • thank you so much for puttin this track on ..halfway thro a chill went up my spine an a tear came out ..powerful stuff cheers

  • Thanks for posting, BSF. My two favorite groups are Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath. I don't know which I like better, so I just say that TL is my favorite rock band, and BS is my favorite metal band. :)

  • That's pretty much what I say anymore too. I always get asked which one I like more.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this. Who plays the instruments on the 1991 "official release"?

  • Scott Gorham and Brian Downey. They used Phil's bass and vocal.

This is actually quite a shitty copy compared to another copy I received later.

  • It sounds like it has been taken from a tape that was very worn.

Its as if the tape was playing slow, and as a result, Phil's voice more than anything sounds very deep.

Can anyone tell me if I am right?

  • You are correct. In fact, when I received this, it ran almost a minute SLOWER. I used audacity to speed it up and attempted to fix the pitch (it was lower than this even). Since then I received another version of this demo that sounds better, with the same ending and vocals. The weird thing with that though is that it's length is over 6 minutes, and this "slow" version, even after my adjustments is only 5:35. The other version was posted here on YT, but I'm not sure if it still is.

  • This is version (one of many...) was a demo, but was recorded live in the studio when they were really on form one night.

  • Was phil actually alive when this song came out. I've heard a couple of different verstions but I heard this song wasnt completed until after his death?

  • No, but this was a Grand Slam song and there's a few different demo versions of it floating around that were done in '84 or '85. They used a vocal from one of those demos and redid the guitars and drums for the version that came out in '91.

  • Thank you.

This was great to hear, Phil sounded angry!!

And in good voice, loads of energy.

I wonder if he was practicing for a live version, (get your hands up etc.)

Definitely different from any I've heard before. Wonderful.

  • practicing for a live version? this might have BEEN a live version (though overdubbed).

  • Maybe? But I can't hear any crowd noise and Sabfan says "demo" not live.

  • I'm 95% positive this is a demo. That's until someone proves to me otherwise, and by proof I mean giving me a disc of the show where this track was taken from. I know there are other gigs of Grand Slam that I haven't heard in existance, but until I hear otherwise, I'm going with what information I was told.

  • Does sound like a demo , you are pretty well connected with the Lizzy rare stuff mate. Have tapes of the Slam Demos somewhere myself but they are poor quality and they were very very raw ie mumble lyrics where Phil was making them up to get melodies

  • 'Recorded live, in the studio'. That means it was recorded in the studio All At Once, As A Band.

Not one instrument at a time, then added together, which is pretty standard unfortunately. Therefore, no audience except the people in the booth. Most of the best recordings Ever were recorded live in the studio, imho.
