@noway2you Thanks for the ground breaking tutorial. Those of us with a palate that can distinguish between muddy garden water and properly brewed coffee will keep looking for a proper machine. Thanks again for all your help and time.
I spent 15 bucks on eBay for a vacuum coffeepot with all it's parts with the heating element. It makes a better pot of coffee than any coffee shop. Coffee shop coffee tastes like burned water.
195-205 deg F.? What's that in Celcius? And why does N. America insist on using Fahrenheit? It makes no sense hehe! 0 deg freezing, 100, boiling...simple!
Thanks for explaining the importance of water temperature and time of brewing, most of the people I know, claim it doesn't matter. Now we just need to assumed the coffee beans were properly roasted :D
That one that they rate the best is an old model :D :P i remember my grandmother having one that looks exactly like that and oh.. i live in the netherlands
You can purchase a Delonghi dcm900 for under $50 now as it's been discontinued. This model works just like the technovorm and has a 1400 watt copper coil heating element also, and the same overall design, but much more attractive. It also keeps the water at right around 200degrees and brews the whole pot in 6 minutes. I just purchased one on ebay for $43 shipped!! For more info, google the Kenwood cm900, it's the exact same thing.
Very good review on coffee makers. I have only ever made coffee through the manual pour-over method with a Melitta cone. From start to finish, it simply takes too long when it's early in the morning. I need something that I can simply set up, walk away, and come back a few minutes later to have delicious coffee ready to drink. I will definitely look further into the Technivorm. It costs a pretty penny, but hey, if it makes comparable coffee to my pour-over method, then I'll buy it.
Did ATK test adding boiling water to any of these coffee pots before brewing to see if they would hold a temp of 195 during the entire 6 minute brewing?
Has ATK approached anyone about making a coffee maker that boils the water FIRST? I can buy an electric kettle for $30. I'd love to see a totally new coffee maker design that boils the water first, then keeps the water at exactly 195 while drawing the water through a filter basket for exactly 6 minutes.
How can they get away with this at times when we have Starbucks. Daaaahhhhh maybe it's because you actually don't get good coffee at Starbucks.

Go french press!
But I use it thermal stainless steel "frieling", best ever, and will last lifetime. Broke too many of those glass ones, waste of money
