Of course, one could bypass the traps and just have a manual valve for their purpose hidden behind the gingerbread where the Perfesser could get to it safely. That would take the place of the traps. More pressure is the answer....it needs it so the steam will not condense as it travels the 4 decks up and 200+ feet back to the instrument. But what do I know about anything like that?
