Barack Obama will win. His poll leads and projected Electoral College votes will open up over the coming weeks leaving mcCain a very small group of uneducated Bible Belt folks voting for him. It will end up being the first landslide in recent history.
mcCain's lousy judgment has been reflected throughout his campaign, but especially in picking someone like palin, who can "see Russia from her house", and mcCain's continuing theme that "The fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Thanks for the energizing update! I'm even more motivated now to make calls, give money, and visit battleground states! Bush has been terrible for the US, as well as our reputation abroad. I'm a freshman at Ashland University in Ohio. The Young Dems club here last here had only about ten members. This year, there are a little over 20 people, which is pretty good considering how conservative the people on and around campus are. We do phonebanking for Obama every Thursday night and canvassing every weekend. And nobody has yet run into any strong McCain supporters in the country. I'm hoping that what's happening here is happening everywhere in Ohio.
Mr. Plouffe (or dear aid to Mr. Plouffe ;)) I propose a response ad to McCain preposterous 'comprehensive sex-ed' ad:
"Barack Obama wants to give kids the skills to see predator behaviour. John McCain doesn't want that. Dear John, so you DON'T want kids to recognize predators? Why not?"
Adding a line like "Is this typical Repub dumbing-down?" or "Is this what you call No child left Behind?" would be funny but too sarcastic.
PS

The economy is like football - the Republicans take away the refs (regulations) and then wonder why the game is a mess. Your policies are right - talk to the small towns.

"The hardest part of my job is how to link Iraq to the war on terror"
When you win, make Election Day a National Holiday. At least then the people working 2 & 3 jobs just to get by would actually have a chance to vote for change!
Thanks for the campaign insight. This exemplifies the straight talk, methodical thoughtful intelligent approach, and transparent nature that has characterized the Obama campaign from the get-go, and which Washington could use a lot more of.
Mr. Plouffe, wouldnt it be a idea to write down a detail plan how Obama is going to fix the economy and send this plan to all MSM as a Press release. The Media has been asking for it, so why not give it to them. Explain how a more fair distribution of wealth creates more jobs. As a Dutch, living in Norway, I can say its proven to be working. It got nothing to do with socialism, its economical common sense.
Bingo cleo1994, I live in Canada and every time I respond to one of these youtubes, regarding the health care system or the deregulation of the US financial services industry, an American always responds by saying something like, "You have no voice here you socialist! You liberals are ruining the world!" We don't really see ourselves as socialists, but our social programs are the envy of the world. Our banks/brokerage houses are very healthy too. We have universal health and regulated banks.
Mr. Plouffe, Why don't you explain to these people that the problem is not that businesses have alot of customers and are unable to expand because of being choked by taxes. The problem is that the customers are being chocked by all costs. What the Bush checks did was prove that businessess will benefit more by tax cuts for 80% of people (thier customers) than by extra money in thier own pockets. What you say doesnt apply in this economic condition.
Barack Obama is a tax and spend liberal who will drive the nail into our economic coffin. WAKE UP PEOPLE. The reason we're in this shape now is because President Bush has vetoed ONE spending bill since he's been in office. Government has grown by nearly 40% in the last 8 years. This is unacceptable. Yes, we do need change. Our change, however, must be with fiscal reponsibility, not with a man who is better suited as a trial lawyer than president. If you think things are bad now, elect this guy.
You are either lying or are grossly misinformed. The fact is, Obama is going to lower the taxes of all Americans who make less than $250,000 a year. That is 95% of all American families. You can use the tired, cliched "tax and spend liberal" line all you want, but it has no basis in reality.
Fiscal responsibility is not getting into a 10 billion dollar a month war, spending our troops lives, and outsourcing our economy to foreign big business! This is what McCain HAS done and WILL keep doing as he has outlined.
I would love to hear of the fiscal responsiblity you are referring to that McCain fulfills and Obama does not.
All of these people who keep asking questions like "how will Barack do things for me and better the country"...:
I ask the same of you: What will YOU do? Barack has made it clear that this is as much about what YOU will do as what HE will do. At least Barack is smart enough to realise that Washington can only do so much. You can start by giving yourself a chance with a vote for Barack (which is a vote for YOU as well.)

And I also recently donated $50; this college student will not stand for four more years of GOP antics!
Does having that huge budget mean that you're going to end the street-blocking strategies that keep African Americans away from the polls on election day?
I also read that the McCain campaign is collecting names of people with foreclosed homes so they can be denied the right to vote due to an address technicality.
Thanks for showing us the breakdown of the electoral map and your strategy. From the start, the Obama camp has made good sense, been straightforward, exhibited transparency and talked to us like intelligent human beings.
David, This is so informative. I live in FL and I'm doing all I can to push Obama. I have a band THE GERRY WILLIAMS BAND we wrote a song called Change is on the way. We're planning a concert to register voters and get people to donate.. We're going to have several bands in downtown Orlando participating. This week we're contacting the downtown Orlando Obama office to get everyone involved. Thought you might want to know that.
So good to hear the the Obama campaign is trying to take Florida. McCain think that state is his. Not necessarily. Obama can win in Florida is there is a good turnout. If he does win Florida he'll no doubt win the election.
John MC Cain If fully aware of United Arab Emirates that is why he dont care if poor Americans or Poor Arabs die, get one half the poor to kill the other of the poor then move in and take over who wants to live on the north American rocks where kids cant read only Rap, Is it this Leave the white trash and the bitter negros with a broken nation and move corporate America to the new worlds trade centers? with 180 different nationality's pouring there wealth as fast as they can in to Dubai
Hey great job so far, I would only like to say that if you can really highlight and hammer home the stark differences on the issues by the two tickets it is going to make it harder for people to put a check mark next to McCains name. But again great job so far!
This guy David Plouffe and Axelrod, and everyone that Obama surrounds himself with are BRILLIANT...absolutely BRILLIANT.
It's so refreshing after eight long years of dumb Bush and being the joke of the entire world....enters John McCain and Palin and Newpapers in England, France, and all over Europe are CRACKING UP LAUGHING over the McCain/Palin Ticket.
John McCain is certainly dumber than Bush. Didn't think the U.S. would ever see such a thing again.
Very nice. God I hope the democrats win this year. I cant stand those republicansm voting for that lying little mccain. Mccain is a POW, not a wise and powerful leader like Obama.
Thanks David for keeping us all informed. You guys are doing a terrific job. I received two calls today from volunteers for campaign donations. I will continue to donate and volunteer. Obama/Biden 08
To use Joe Biden speak, this map is malarky. It's inconsistent to on the one hand feel you have to defend Wisconsin, PA, Michigan, and NH as close contests, and on the other think you can pick up Georgia, NC, Missouri and Indiana. It's just not going to happen and it's arrogant and merely theoretical to think otherwise. The best Obama can do is to keep intact the Gore/Kerry electoral coalition and then add Colorado, Virginia and Ohio.
Obama and Biden are up in the Zogby/Reuters and Gallup polls. This is great news but no surprise. Not all Americans are brainwashable sheeple. They really will vote on issues--and the economy is taking us down into hell. No more Palin.
Obama needs us and we him. Let's do all we can to get him elected. Word out! Word up! Feet out! Let's hit the pavement, pick up a phone or open our wallets--heck, I'm strapped but went into some credit debt for the man. Help us Obi-Wan Obama. You're our only hope!
Obama will give us the right change like tax bracks for the middle class, vet benefits for national guards. get us out of iraqi and stop spending ten billion a month. OBAMABIDEN FOR AMIERICA 2008
When you think of what the US has been through in the last 8 years, Bush's "Bring it on!" and "Mission Accomplished"...the lies that started the war in the first place...the deregulation of the financial services sector...the constant rolling of the dice, the shooting from the hip...guys, enough is enough...NO MORE MAVERICKS! The nation is in the toilet. McCain and Palin are more of the same...they're God fearing, ignorant morons. Let's stand up for ourselves and oust the blasted Republicans!
your organisational work is admirable and there has never been a more efficient campaign worldwide.
But it lacks some psychological insight.
Most of the undecided small town voters you want to reach don't react to a knock on their doors. They feel repelled when they are asked for their vote directly.
But they would positively react to ads in their newspapers with objective informations about your tax plan, healthcare plan, education plan... This would finally overcome their mistrust.
Whoa! This is downright unheard of, and completely GENIUS, David! An update, explanation & lesson all wrapped into one. 100% proof positive that the Obama campaign is a good steward of public money; says A LOT about an Obama administration. Well done. You can count my family's financial support.
I went over his Issues page with the Topic being "Technology"
"Deploy Next-Generation Broadband: Barack Obama believes that America should lead the world in broadband penetration and Internet access. As a country, we have ensured that every American has access to telephone service and electricity, regardless of economic status, and Obama will do likewise for broadband Internet access"
I want to hear more from Obama and how is going to do better than John MC-CANT. I want to hear Obama tell me why I should give him the opportunity to make changes in Washingon even though John McCant has had 26 years to do it. I want Obama to tell me how much better we were eight years ago and if I elect John McCant he won't be able to do anything for me! Prove your case Obama. I want to see you at the town meetings. I want to see you react and respond to the polices of John McCant.
Tell you what. Go to Obama's website and look at his policies. Then go to McCain's website and see how much detail HE provides on his proposals LOL. Even better.. Google "The Keating Five" and "Gramm deregulation" and you will see how McCain and his chum Gramm opened the FLOODGATES to the Greed he now bemoans. HE CAUSED THE FINANCIAL CRISIS. Vote for him if if you want him to wreck the country. Otherwise, AND/OR if you like Obama's policies on his website, vote for him.
You haven't been paying much attention...KEEP UP! He's already given point by point the who, what, when, where and how. You can look at his stump speeches right hear on youtube under "barackobamadotcom". So has Biden. Not sure how else he needs to tell you. Se habla espanol? Or can it be willfull ignorance? I swear Obama can spell it oout in power point presentation and people will still be stuck on stupid...maybe a picture book will help
"You haven't been paying much attention...KEEP UP! He's already given point by point the who, what, when, where and how."
I know! People keep asking me again and again, 'Obama hasn't told me anything, he never says how he's going to solve the issues'--which is very strange, because I seem to have repeatedly heard clear plans on all his stances in the convention and a ton of speeches.
If people haven't been paying attention, please go to wikipedia. Don't vote for McCain out of ignorance.
your in a diifrent universe if thats what you are asking for.obama haver saying this from the day he got the nomination.so go to his website read his views and policies.and watch some of his live videos then.make your decision.stop saying obama should do this should do that.may be people like you are not going to vote for him any way you just wanna find a reason to level you point.
mccain has more expirence sure hes about change but he also has expirence to put trust in him that his change will be for the better. obama shows no promises sadly. =/
Man! learn to spell before coming on a public forum to air your ignorance.
This shows one the type of voters that McCain is attracting.
McCain have been in Washington for 26 yrs, can you name any change he have implemented? Offcourse, he changed his wife; changed the financial sector by his involvement is the wipe out of the savings & loans bank in the 80s.
He doesn't want the Government i.e. the taxpayers to regulate the financial sector, but the taxpayer is asked to bail them out.
You're retarded. McCain's record is covered with conservative votes on economic and social issues. He's been in Washington for so long but hasn't done anything to try to help the people.
His experience is under scrutiny and therefore, irrelevant.
As for Obama showing no promise, You just aren't paying attention. I can give you not one or two,but numerous ways Obama provides great plans in multiple areas.
More experience at doing what? Supporting Bush? That's experience we don't need. We need judgment. We need courage. We need intelligence. We need integrity. In all these respects, Obama beats McCain hands down. If all you want is an old man, look at Biden. He's pretty old too. But he is on the worker's side, not on the side of corporations.
If McWar now had experience then he would have already used it. he's been in the senate how long and he is just now talking about changing things? How is that when the last time he showed up to vote in the senate was April 8th? How is he for change when just yesterday he held a closed door fundraiser with corporate lobbyist?
That experience didn't help him foresee that invading Iraq was a mistake. Search YT for Obama Iraq 2002, where before the invasion he talked about the civil war that would develop. That doesn't take experience, it takes education, knowledge, insight, judgement, and an understanding to be able to predict something like that. Just recently McCain didn't even know the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite. McCain's out of touch, he's useless in the war on terror.
I wonder when the McCain campaign is finally going to drop all pretenses to decency and totally go racial? You can smell it coming, it will finally expose him and his accolytes for the ogres they really are.
Obama/Biden will win here in Pa, I have a deep feeling that we will deliver it for you.
Although I understand the importance of fund raising to a successful campaign, I do wonder; Is any portion of the funds raised going towards other non-profit efforts? ie: charities, hurricane relief, or anywhere else?
When are we going to see Barack, with his sleeves rolled up, huddling with Ploufe and his other advisers, around a conference table charts and papers all over the place, working hard on the economy, doing research, figuring it all out and then buying time on networks and cable (at least an hour, maybe more)to brief us simple folk, point-by-point, issue-by-issue, as to exactly what the problems are and how to fix them?
He gives talks in which he explains point by point how we should deal with various issues. For instance, he recently gave a talk on the economy. I can recall others including Iraq, foreign policy specifically as it pertains to the Americas, development of new energy sources and so on.. In addition all of these plans are detailed on his website.
Bus people to polls like the Reps do! Put Biden in battleground states, shameful the racist comments I hear from "friends"-scary!! Sorry for the comment but we need to win, for my children. I'm off to donate, again. Good luck, Godspeed
Get involved with the campaign right now!!! If you are a college student find the Students For Barack Obama Group on your campus and register students and get them out to vote.
This is the first election I've actually been fully involved. I've had enough.
While many people in the US had to put up with 8 years of Bush, Floridians had to deal with 16 years of the Bush admin. with Jeb Bush as our governor. We don't want to put up with an added 24 years of the same failed policies with McCain-Palin!
My family and I will be fighting hard for you Senator Obama here in Florida!
100 million Americans voted in 2004. Cumulative of 2.5 million Americans have donated to Obama over 19 months, and that's supposed to be revolutionary? More Obama supporters need to contribute time and money. $66 million in a month may be a record, but there's a lot of inert Obama supporters out there.
I'm campaign for Obama here in florida!! We are really working hard here. Im acctually about to head at to the obama headquaters now to make some calls... :D
I like David and I like the way Barack has surrounded himself with very qualified and smart people to run his campaign. All he needs is YOU, the American people who want to move this country forward and upward.
I'm a first time voter from Florida. I fully support Barack Obama, and I am doing everything that I can to get him in office! Keep up the good work. Florida for Obama-Biden 2008!
If Mccain wants Obama to do town halls and take questions on the same stage as him so badly, Obama should say he will do them if Palin does them with Biden at the same time!!
Why then isnt his Mccains VP pick doing town halls and taking questions from the public,..
I am European but my opinion is that Palin's strongpoint is small town talking and small town politics. Biden is a much more ''leader'' figure being able to see things in a wider perspective... I think a winning strategy would be to expose Palin's ignorance and incompetence in managing severe crisis with real politics and diplomacy without that Christian fundamentalistic approach. Off course, Obama- Biden is the solution for the US. All the best!
Make sure you're registered. There are millions of people ending up not being able to vote cause their registration is returned to a wrong address. It smells of conspiracy, but let's not go there. JUST MAKE SURE YOU'RE REGISTERED !!!
yes we can! PLEASE GUYS KEEP UP YOUR PROACTIVE ATTACKS ON ISSUES THAT REALLY MATTER TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I have volunteer keep hitting the republicans hard and we need to protect the vote and the registration!!!!
You wanna help? Don't elect David Cameron and the Conservatives who are basically closet neo-cons! I must say I am a big fan of your foreign minister David Miliband who I believe will succeed Gordon Brown. Smart, young and pragmatic, reminds me of Barack Obama himself.
This strategy, especially for Florida should work, provided it's a true statistics of what happened previously. By the way, it should be 500,000 AA, not 500,0000, LOL. Let's hope youth and AA come out this time, the media would be shocked about Florida in Nov. Also, can you do the same for Ohio??
We can't afford to give up now and hand the election to the likes of Sarah Palin. As Jon Stewart said, Sarah doesn't need to understand what the Bush Doctrine is because she is the Bush Doctrine. And we can look forward to more deterioration of civil liberties, more justified torture and more illegal wars if she and her assistant McCain get in. It is the duty of every patriotic American to stop Sara Palin.

WHERE THE REPUBLICANS ARE?
• They are in the blogs deleting pro-Obama comments.
• They are in T.V. exaggerating the lame qualifications of their leaders.
• They are in towns repeating the same obvious lies.
• They are in Alaska preventing the due process of an investigation.
• They are in their fallacious world crying that the fundamentals are strong, without really understanding what that means.

So good to hear the the Obama campaign is trying to take Florida. McCain think that state is his. Not necessarily. Obama can win in Florida is there is a good turnout. If he does win Florida he'll no doubt win the election.

Hey everyone, Call everyone you know in -The Battleground States- and tell them that THIS is the year to register, if they haven't, and to VOTE!
And tell them to call everyone -they- know.
The differences between the candidates have -never- been greater in every way than they are this year. It matters!
If they have jobs, or if they buy gas, or if they hate torture, or all of the above, tell them to vote for Obama.

Dear David,
your organisational work is admirable and there has never been a more efficient campaign worldwide.
Hegelfan 3 years ago
Whoa! This is downright unheard of, and completely GENIUS, David! An update, explanation & lesson all wrapped into one. 100% proof positive that the Obama campaign is a good steward of public money; says A LOT about an Obama administration. Well done. You can count my family's financial support.

I want to see you react and respond to the polices of John McCant.

psychmaj323 3 years ago
Tell you what. Go to Obama's website and look at his policies. Then go to McCain's website and see how much detail HE provides on his proposals LOL. Even better.. Google "The Keating Five" and "Gramm deregulation" and you will see how McCain and his chum Gramm opened the FLOODGATES to the Greed he now bemoans. HE CAUSED THE FINANCIAL CRISIS. Vote for him if if you want him to wreck the country. Otherwise, AND/OR if you like Obama's policies on his website, vote for him.
gary2wild 3 years ago 2
You haven't been paying much attention...KEEP UP! He's already given point by point the who, what, when, where and how. You can look at his stump speeches right hear on youtube under "barackobamadotcom". So has Biden. Not sure how else he needs to tell you. Se habla espanol? Or can it be willfull ignorance? I swear Obama can spell it oout in power point presentation and people will still be stuck on stupid...maybe a picture book will help
luvangel330 3 years ago
"You haven't been paying much attention...KEEP UP! He's already given point by point the who, what, when, where and how."
I know! People keep asking me again and again, 'Obama hasn't told me anything, he never says how he's going to solve the issues'--which is very strange, because I seem to have repeatedly heard clear plans on all his stances in the convention and a ton of speeches.
If people haven't been paying attention, please go to wikipedia. Don't vote for McCain out of ignorance.

Man! learn to spell before coming on a public forum to air your ignorance.
This shows one the type of voters that McCain is attracting.
McCain have been in Washington for 26 yrs, can you name any change he have implemented? Offcourse, he changed his wife; changed the financial sector by his involvement is the wipe out of the savings & loans bank in the 80s.
He doesn't want the Government i.e. the taxpayers to regulate the financial sector, but the taxpayer is asked to bail them out.
willymanet 3 years ago 2
You're retarded. McCain's record is covered with conservative votes on economic and social issues. He's been in Washington for so long but hasn't done anything to try to help the people.
g07h4xf00 3 years ago
His experience is under scrutiny and therefore, irrelevant.
As for Obama showing no promise, You just aren't paying attention. I can give you not one or two,but numerous ways Obama provides great plans in multiple areas.
freddieaca 3 years ago
"Reforming Washington and Wall Street" is not the same as changing the policies of the last 8 years.
ecpcorran 3 years ago
More experience at doing what? Supporting Bush? That's experience we don't need. We need judgment. We need courage. We need intelligence. We need integrity. In all these respects, Obama beats McCain hands down. If all you want is an old man, look at Biden. He's pretty old too. But he is on the worker's side, not on the side of corporations.
gary2wild 3 years ago
If McWar now had experience then he would have already used it. he's been in the senate how long and he is just now talking about changing things? How is that when the last time he showed up to vote in the senate was April 8th? How is he for change when just yesterday he held a closed door fundraiser with corporate lobbyist?
luvangel330 3 years ago
That experience didn't help him foresee that invading Iraq was a mistake. Search YT for Obama Iraq 2002, where before the invasion he talked about the civil war that would develop. That doesn't take experience, it takes education, knowledge, insight, judgement, and an understanding to be able to predict something like that. Just recently McCain didn't even know the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite. McCain's out of touch, he's useless in the war on terror.

Dear Brgayle,
I am European but my opinion is that Palin's strongpoint is small town talking and small town politics.

We can't afford to give up now and hand the election to the likes of Sarah Palin. As Jon Stewart said, Sarah doesn't need to understand what the Bush Doctrine is because she is the Bush Doctrine.
