This lady has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, and at 74 years of age I have heard many. She has such range and power. She can sing anything from soft songs like "I Have A drean to this powherhouse of a song. Frida is a gifted lady. God gave her this voice and she uses it well. Bless her.
i love abba, too, but there is too much tension in their voices, in this particular song, which makes it somewhat pathetic. also, the lyrics don't help, too many "all-that-gringo-know" words: seniorita, sombrero, etc... if you'd like to check out authentic mexican temporary song, see alejandro fernandez - tantita pena.
@rebelde69ateo Considering they're Swedish, I think they do a magnificent job of this song. I don't think of it as a Mexican song though...it comes across as Spanish to me, like most Europeans would too.
@stillovescott well, i think "white sombrero" suggests this song was intended to be mexican in flavor, just like fernando ("rio grande"). i still love abba to death, i just think this song would have to be redone. maybe abba thought the same since they decided not to release it back then?
The harmonies from 3.08 onwards are breathtaking. Listen to how low the wonderful Frida's voice goes, while still retaining tune and softness. Astonishing!
One of Frida's strongest vocal performances. Again, another very underrated track. It should not have been left off Super Trouper originally. I'm glad they've since added it back as bonus track.
This song was meant to be released as the lead single from the 'Piccadilly Circus' album. It was ditched in favour of Super Trouper, which also became the new name of the album, (although The Winner Takes It All was released first). It was released as a single in a slip cover as a bonus cd with the More Gold album, featuring Dream World and Dame Dame Dame as the bonus tracks.
I heared this song 10 years ago in a compilation CD and first i belived that i dont like it, but now i listen it again and i notice that is a very nice song. Maybe they want to do somethign like a spain or mexican song with the trumpets. Realy is strange this song but finally nice. Thanks for upload is a raly good job.
@cefleflo I totally agree. I have the ABBA "Thank You For The Music" box cd set. This song is on it. I had added the entire compilation to my iPod, but I always skipped this song when it came up. However, in the last year or so, I let the song play when it came on and I have to admit, like you, I love it. I'm enchanted, actually. It's an overlooked song with a wonderful melody, albeit, average and cheesy lyrics by today's standards.
Great clip to go with one of the most unusual Abba songs ever! It really grows on you...however, it would have been better with real instruments as per the Dana Winner version.
Is this not the most unexpected, brilliant piece of music from Frida and ABBA. Ya think they were just all about Mama Mia. My friends they were so much more. Love always in ABBA, Christian
This is what I like most about ABBA, their wide range of beat and subject. Can you imagine a Scandinavian group singing a song with Latin American color, like 'Fernando' and this, 'Put On Your White Sombrero'. With the lively beat they employed here, they are more Mexican than them Mexican musicians! I'm impressed. Why this gem did not turn into a hit is beyond me. Thank you for posting this one.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! it reminds me so much of my holiday on gran canaria! thank you for bringing so many of my fondest, fondest memories back to me!!! it was a wonderful holiday and it is a wonderful song!!!
IIntended for the Super Trouper album but shelved until it surfaced in 1994's box set THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC. Frida is so awsome as lead singer. Agnetha adds alot to the last verse.
Everybody knows FRIDA is a fantastic singer just like AGNETHA!!!!!!Great song!!!!
