Magic, brings back so many memories. I was newly married then so couldn't ride trains all day, but what music to the ears. Last time I drove past the dome building had gone, but the overbridge was still there. Thanks, great cine.
I was 8 at the time, remember it was October 12 because my parent's made it as an anniversary thing and I got the day off school :) The site was due to close a few days after this but it was a sunny day.
Remember on the train passing lots of things I hadn't managed to see in the day, it was so huge.
wow, thanks for clearing that up for me. wow i bet for the drivers it must of been tough to keep up steam. you wouldn't happen to know how steep the grades were when the film was taken.
No sorry, I have a programme for the Festival somewhere so I will try and see if it is mentioned in there. I do remember the first time I went I couldn't believe the noise they made, could be heard all round the site!!
acw71000, are you sure the sound is from the actual fair, those engines sure sound more like the prototype, than live steam models. but in any case it's a great videos.
Hi Daniel, yes I can assure you that is the actual sound taken straight from my cine film. The line around the Festival site was quite steeply graded and made the locos work hard. they are 15 inch gauge and are still in use on their home railways.
Thanks, glad to have brought back a few memories. I live just up the road from the site and really think it would have been better to have left it as parkland for everyone to enjoy.

Classic. I have such fond memories of the garden festival. Most of the fixtures are still there only they're no so shiny and new now!

Thank you. I was amazed when I went to the Garden Festival at the noise the locos were making, the gradients were pretty fierce.
