I second that emotion! This is boogie woogie at it's best! Poor Freddie must have suffered very bad health problems towards the end of his life; poor fellow was only 55 when he died! What a tragedy for the musical world! :(
If Freddie & Ella Mae were any more cool, they'd have been FROZEN!!! His magic with the piano keys and her swingin' voice....a match made in BOOGIE WOOGIE heaven! Strictly from groovysville, daddy-o! THANKS for sharing this delightful footage with us! You've MADE my day & my week! Dig ya later, fellow hep cats! :)
Freddie Slack was probably the best of the white boogie woogie pianists, in my opinion. This version is a bit uptempo from the original and in a higher key, but it's wonderful - as is Ella's singing. Thanks for posting the clip!
I second that emotion, ventnor! I totally agree with your comments about the late great Freddie & the late great Ella! They are both sorely missed! Two GIANTS of American music! THANKS for your insightful comments! :)
Ella Mae looked hotter than a murder weapon when she recorded the original version, and she was only about 30 when she reprised it with Mr. Slack. Why did they defuse her sexuality with the June Cleaveresque makeover.
Ella is older here but check out balboabill's vid copy when she was 17, much more dynamic performance though her rolling eyes (loco weed? lol) is a bit strange or is she playing the part as the cowboy is wayout. In it's day the words were censored e.g. "loco weed" was changed to "local ways",
She ws only 17 when this was recorded. Her first recording. It was a new label and she saved it with the money this record made. Aside from all that she was a great singer.
great performance, thanks for putting it up! :)

Such a fun tune and performance. Is that George Van Eps on guitar? Sure looks like him.
