Lots of comments regarding how slow the companies were responding, or how one Engine "smoked" the other. Speed insn't nearly as important as arriving safely ON LOCATION. It's just my opinion but the distance between the companies shows a safe driving attitude, and shows the Departments safety oriented "culture". Thought you guys did great!
this is all over someone not legally burning brush or any yard debris. people in areas where you need a burn permit need to learn when it is appropriate to burn yard debris or brush. it is a waste of taxpayer money to put out a fire a person illegally started to burn brush or yard debris. there should be a nationwide law where the person who was burning yard debris or brush without a permit needs to pay the bill for emergency response and fire suppression.
Dont you guys have burn permits? All farms and ranches in our area have burn permits as with residences. Even all the golf courses have to have them. So when john q public looks out and sees smoke and calls the 911 they can trace the location and see if there were burn permits issued in the area. It saves SOOOO much time. We still dispatch if its questionable or law will swing by.
does dpd still run encrypted transmissions? man i hated that working for the s.o. in luna. we didnt have but basic analog at the time and dpd mostly would dispatch out scrambled, but some units would call in normal. but was pain due 2 fact we had to radio to unit then he would relay since we couldnt hear dpd dispatch. i hope they rid it of that or modernized it more.
where is this?? and 2 questions... How important is the Building construction class, and is there a certain speed your supposed to go when responding or is it as fast as you can safely??
Deming New Mexico...its 30 miles from Mexico in Southwest New Mexico.
Knowing you building construction is important so if you get a chance to take the class then go for it. As far as speed, I believe the state law is we can only go 10 MPH over the posted speed but depending on traffic and the road we sometimes go faster, and our engines only do about 65 anyway
thanks for replying. that doesnt seem very fast at all. I start building construction in september and i'll hopefully be an intern by then with my local fire department. i cant wait to do it for real
65 mph might not be fast by our standards(car drivers) but you're talking about 60,000+ pounds of vehicle with water which plays into how the vehicle operates.
I want to be both a cop and a fireman. A fireman because I love the siren, haha, well I'm a pyro soo that would be cool. And I want to be a cop because I want to go fast and make a difference. So I'm kinda stuck.
does deming pd still use encryptian for there freqs? they use to when i was working there. how about fire u guys use that? every1 still on conventional vhf?
Yeah, the way our county is set up is weird. We cover the whole county for EMS, 1st in on structure fires and at the request of volunteers for the rest. That fire was actually in a volunteer district, which knew about it, but didn't think it was the burn since it was so big. They dont tell us about the county burns.

Glad to see you're making good use of those NFSA and IFSTA required and obviously provided hearing protection. ;-)
