  • Is it just me? I feel like this song would be great on a basketball video game. Billy = <3

  • I think his first five albums were his best work. I became less interested in his music when "52nd Street" came out, because I saw him getting more commercial. I still respect him tremendously, for his integrity in not selling out his music, and having it end up on "Swiffer" commercials and "KFC," and the like. He is the total package, writing the music, the lyrics, and the arrangiements. He's very grounded, and if you've ever seen his "Master Classes," they're very educational and entertaining.

  • ¡ GRACIAS ! Let's give a loud "OOOOLÉ!" from Catalonia, Spain to the one who uploaded this song! Man, this is the very first Billy Joel album that came into my house. I was 11 years old and this is one of the records that made me aware and get conciousness on such a musically great decade like the 1970's. By the way, this song fits perfectly in any SKA music session, so...POGOS OF THE WORLD, UNITE !! :)

  • pretty good song. Billy Joel is my favorite singer. I've listened to the majority of his albums...I'm proud to say I know well over 100 of his songs! there was only 3 or 4 out of those that I disliked.

  • @luvpianomusicable He only released 116!

  • @Tolstoy111 I think there are more, I a have 139 songs already on my iphone from billy joel. Did you also count his classical album, my lifes etc?

  • @Tolstoy111 Joel recorded 12 studio albums of original material. Plus two new songs on the first Greatest Hits package. Anything else is either live versions of those songs, covers, or unreleased songs/ B sides - none of which I'm counting.

  • @luvpianomusicable Same here.

  • bassline!!

  • I still like this song even after all these years.

  • I Wish Everyone Knew About Billy Joel. He's The Greatest. :D

  • . . .and you never messed around with dangerous drugs, you were all getting sick on beer!

  • And You didnt didn't get any unless you went steady and made out for a year. Brilliant!

  • desde mexico df gracias!!!!!!!!!!

  • I still remember ALL the words even though I haven't heard this song in years.

  • @DizziNY Oh I love it when that happens with songs! ^^ It's such a good song to sing to as well

  • i dont care what you say i heard this song 20 or more years ago and it fantastic. some of the early stuff is his best

  • I agree totally. I listened to the Piano Man album for the first time in quite a while the other day... I'd forgotten how much I loved his early stuff.

  • @kyokoushio if piano man beasts, try Cold Spring Harbor Prob my fav album, if not closely 2nd to The Stranger.

  • @kyokoushio Streetlife Serenade is without a doubt the most underrated album in the catalog

    (speaking of the old stuff)

  • Hey, I hate to bring in a third party guy into this and ruin the correspondence, but this is a fun song and it really lightens the mood and makes a person more easy going. If you watch my videos listen to this first so you'll be nice with the comments :)!

  • I know - It always makes me smile and I just HAVE to sing along when it comes on :)

  • He's been playing a lot of "Closet Classics" lately on tour. This one would be awesome!

  • Really?! That's great! I love the less well known pieces! I want to hear the second half of 'Glass Houses' and some of 'Streetlife Serenade'. I think those, live, would be brilliant :D

  • LOL....I really should check these things before posting and didn't realise the first one was yours. :)

I have since even noticed that we have spoken, or at least typed to each other on your Stop In Nevada video too but I was paying a attention this time. :)

  • S'ok, don't worry ^^ I'm the single least observant person on the planet O_o lol

Heh, I feel kind of bad that I hadn't noticed that we'd already corresponded... But anyway, thank you for commenting on both of my videos - it's always lovely to meet others who share my tastes in music ^^

  • When you've got a spare few minutes (although you might have already seen them anway) do a search for these exact wordings on here for a couple more videos. The second one is quite funny in parts too. :)

Only The Good Die Young (Alternate Version)

Billy Joel Only The Good Die Young Liberty Devitto

  • I've certainly seen the first one before, because I actually posted that one ^^ but thank you for plugging my videos anyway! :D

I knew the story of the second video but I'd never actually seen it before - very funny, thank you for the link. I absolutely loved the performance of the final version he did on that video :) it's just a shame that his voice isn't what it once was... I should have loved to have seen him live in his prime

  • I know that Only The Good Die Young started with a reggae feel to it but then became a bit of a rocker and I get the feeling that OTGDY maybe evolved from this song.

  • I'd never noticed it before but you're right - I get exactly the same feeling now you've mentioned it :)

  • happy 60th birthday billy

  • Quite so :)

If you're interested (and don't know already...) there's a special on BBC radio 2 on his career. The link is on my channel

  • ILOVETHISSONG!

  • Same - it really does make me want to dance :D

Wish I'd been alive in the 70's...

  • such a lovely song

  • I know - when I first listened to the Turnstiles album, I couldn't believe that I'd never heard this song before ^^
