Aw, my god. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and the bet365.com adverts are probably the worst things that Ray has ever done. Because of these I honestly cannot take Ray Winstone seriously as an actor, which is a tremendous shame because he's really very good.

He's Abel Magwitch, seen swimming to shore having just escaped from a hulk in Dickensian England. He's in a right state, ragged clothes, covered in mud, how do my family greet him? By shouting, "JONESIE!"

I've met Ray twice. The first time was in 1979. i was a fireman at the time and had just come off a night shift at Edmonton Fire Station. I walked down Church Street to get a 149 bus and I immediately recognised Ray at the bus stop. I said hello and we spent the bus journey chatting about how great it felt that we were both about to become fathers for the first time. He was on his way to work on his family's fruit and veg stall I think. The second time was in 1999. See next post.

I met Ray Winstone on a hot July day in1993 I had just returned from living in America I hadn,t been back for seven years so I arranged a reunion with my old London geezers from Tottenham and Edmonton we met on a sunday lunchtime at Rifles pub in Enfield Lock maybe 30 or 40 blokes ray was among them. I wouldn't like to start a debate, about what is a True 'Cockney' and somebody from London or East London. BUT - maybe you should type 'Cockney' into 'Wikipedia' and it might explain a few things.

Ray Winstone was born in 'Hackney' which is East London, and to be honest, alot of people that live in London and South East England talk with that accent.

Britain sent prisoners to Australia in the 1700's, most came from London/South East England, hence the similarity in the accent...
