Oddly enough my grandfather used to sing this song to me when I was little...Lol..he was a character! He used to sing..."I love to go swimming with Bowl legged women and dive btw their knees...a yata da da a yata de da etc....He also used to sing Swanee River and songs like that to me...
Ha! It's just an old folk song. It's sexual, because bowlegged women always have their legs open. It's just one of those things that's so stupid and immature that it's amusing, and that's why it's been popular throughout the years.
My brother used to sing a version of "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man" the third and fourth lines of which were: "I like to go swimmink wit bald-headed wimmink...". Of course, all of the other lines were: "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man". According to my brother (of course, this was when he was about ten years old), the reference to "bald-headed women" was code for "women in bathing caps".
my mom used to sing this to us... also the verse "today is the day to give babies away for a half a pound of tea... if you know any ladies who want any babies then send them all to me"..
It is a WWII song as far as I know. My dad used to sing it all the time. He only sang it with that first part when we were little. But when we got older he sang what I believe is the second part. which was "if you know any ladies who want any babies just send them around to me" Thanks
i know it was from the 40s and it was done with lots of stuff but i remember the popey the sailor song but it was never on the show about bow-legged woman with hair between there legs ?
My mom heard this song on an old black and white movie, she has been searching for the song, she searched it on the web and found this site where a bunch of people where searching it too, my mom could only remember that part of the song, and no one seems to know who its by or the lyrics to the song, only that he likes to swim with bowlegged women LOL so its kinda weird...its like the song disapeered off the face of this earth...
There's apparently a second line that goes "the bigger the women, the better the swimming and swim between their legs"

A nun...yes a nun....taught me a version of this song. It goes
"Did you ever go swimmin' with bow legged women
And dive right through their knees.
Today's the day they give babies away
For a half a pound of tea.
If you know any women who want lots of children
Just send them on to me."
