My gal just passed away. Super smart. Didn't speak. But she KNEW every word. I miss her badly. Well loved and spoiled! Spray millet was her favourite as well. Thanks! Loved seeing a female cockatiel being smart as they are. My gal was cheeky and clever.
Doesn't really matter if they do 'tricks' They are beautiful just to watch doing their own thing. They are all smart. I hope he doesn't get too 'fed-up' doing all these tricks. I found it somewhat boring.
No, birds are not colour blind. They have excellent eyesight. It's one of the main things that helps them survive in the wild. They need to see their food.
I use millet spray for Pringle and dried papaya or pineapple for my African Grey. It depends on the bird. See what his favourite food is and use that.
It is something she does naturally. She often will do it from the top of her cage when she is in a feisty mood. I would give her a treat every time she did it. It took her only a couple of days before she caught on. After that she was a very willing learner. For my African Grey, I put my hands under his wings to get him to lift them. Now all I do is point at his chest.
Thanks for the compliments. To begin with I caught things she did naturally and rewarded her. After she caught on about the trick/reward method, she was very willing to learn more. Before I started clicker training, I would hold millet in front of her and she learned to twirl, go through the hoops and climb the ladder all by following it.
This site doesn't let me say much with only 500 letters. Continued from below; The wave was the hardest trick. I made her step up on a tiny stick. Then made it so she would only be able to get one foot on it. Then I took away the stick before she could step on, hence the wave
pringle, who knew you were soo talented... I guess you did! Show made to Poirot's music, he,he,he. I hear Poirot in the peanut gallery, Funny!! Your pal, Louie
I have had her for 4 1/2 years. It took up to two years to teach her all the tricks she knows. When I got her at 8 months of age, she had never been handled by humans, but she has turned out to be a very sweet and friendly bird.
Thanks for the compliment. Pringle does not speak, but she has a wonderful personality. My African Grey, Poirot always talks to her when she does her tricks.
Thank you for the compliment. She started out as an untame bird and has come a long way. She was raised by her parents and not handled until she was 8 months old. That is the clicker in the background. It took her six months to learn her colours and put them in the cup.
Hello. Sorry it took awhile to get back to you. I started out by having her reach down for the perch instead of stepping up to it. Gradually, I kept her further and further away from it until she would hang completely upside down. I would also give the cue, "Play Dead." Eventually, she would do it without the perch being there. I was easy on her when I taught this trick until she was confident enough to do it. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
Wow Pringle! That was Great!! That you stay put on that perch when I know you can fly...that's amazing! I'm impressed. You and Mom are quite the team. From your buddy, Rainbow the Macaw
Pringle that is fantastic. You are a Star and should go on Animal Planet or send in your video to a TV Video Site. Hugs, Ladydobe and Zodiac,Sunny,Shadow
