I think they should drop a football during a fly by. Then again, people are not smart enough to realize it, so they run because they thought it a bomb.
@ChronoShinta at the speed they're flying, if they dropped a football, it'd probablly hit someone/something at roughly 400 mph. Do you want to catch that? lol
To the OP, there was no sonic boom. Do you have any idea how many peoples ear drums would have been destroyed had they broke the sound barrier at that low an altitude?!
@kirkferentzrocks wrong, there was no sonic boom. They flew too low and too fast. They were supposed to fly no faster than 300 knots and they flew close to 400 knots. They also cleared the press box by only 16 feet, a huge no no. Again, there WAS NO SONIC BOOM. Anyone stating there was is an idiot.
@kirkferentzrocks dude thats like 300 mph not 700. and you cant break a sonic boom, you break the sound barrier which causes a sonic boom. they were insanely low which is the only reason they can get in trouble
@kirkferentzrocks you my friend are an idiot if there was a sonic boom that low to the ground EVERY PERSON in that stadium would have bleeding ears i really hope this was a troll
They got in trouble for breaking the altitude restriction, they were too low. If they wouldve broken the sound barrier, you wouldve lost your ear drums.
It's cool and all, but their flying was dangerously low. According to KCRG, they were only 16 feet above the press box and only 58 feet above the scoreboard. That may seem like a lot of clearance, but in aviation, you can easily drop 58 feet in less than 1/2 a second. They were only flying 176 feet above the ground. The minimum these flyovers should be preformed at is 1000 feet.
@greasemonkey2985 who cares, these guys could have came within a foot of the scoreboard if they wanted to. They did no wrong by me and the flew right over me. The lower, the better.
So the lead pilot, who was going to retire, is being punished by being forced to...retire. I think he had a hell of a last hurrah, wish I could have been there to see it
Too bad we'll never see a flyover that awesome at Kinnick again. The pilots broke about every safety rule there is and all are being disciplined. Broken rules or not that was about the coolest flyover I've ever seen except for at an actual airshow..
@scooterbmxskate Uh, no.... You can't. You have to go supersonic to create a sonic boom (faster than the speed of sound) Not allowed over most of the US and certainly not in a city. It would shatter glass in buildings and probably cause many people to have hearing issues.

It was loud and I don't think any of us could believe how low they were. The effect was much more than what you see in this vid.
dannyd1572 5 months ago
@kirkferentzrocks but you can hear them as they approach, therefore subsonic.

@kirkferentzrocks Unless the sound was edited, they didn't break the sound barrier. Otherwise it would be silent until they were past the camera.

this is cool but I've personally witnessed a flyover at NTC that was about 40feet off the ground, directly overhead, and going faster than this.
jasonisunavailable 11 months ago
@jasonisunavailable did they have bleachers? because if they did everyone sitting in them is now dead. no way in hell a jet did a fly over at 40 ft
shwann125 10 months ago
@shwann125 I didn't take out a tape measure, it was no higher than tree line in the desert. no bleachers
