  • I have 4% silver solder and it melts fast enough but very often it just beads up and falls off the wire. It does not flow all nice tothjrough the wire duing tinning, like it does here. I don't get it- as my solder is rosin core and the wires are clean. Why is my wire rejecting the solder??

  • @shoegooguru also: I am heating the wire from behind as I touch the wire with solder. According to what you do, what I do should be working as i use the same technique. but the wire just turns black and the solder beads up and rolls off as said.

  • What type of solder.. exactly... do you use.?

  • dont know brand- just make sure it has a very high silver content- it should be expensive, it will also look like silver, not dull like pewter.

  • What is a good soldering iron you would recommend?

  • stahl at parts express- thats what we use. cheap and good. model is STSSVT part number 374-100

  • Thanks!! $15 through Amazon isn't bad at all!

  • did u say "we're gay" at the end. ic, the truth comes out in the workshop

  • yup. chuck gave us up. TO ALL WHO CARE...... we are NOT gay. (not that there's anything wrong with that :) we are gay because we are both old guys who really love rc planes, we goof all day, and sometimes we hold hands in the rain....(huh???)
