  • Cool man, just got it today, I'm yet to use it.

  • lol jailbreak ur phone i have an iphone4 jailbroken and got this app for free and works great and i can use facetime on 3g

  • you did this on my birthday

  • does GPS use internet?

  • How do I turn off the tomtom ????. When I press the home button so it is still running in the background.

  • how does it work? i mean the billing? if it doesnt use your internet, am i to understand as soon as you purchase the app, the navigation is free?

  • @TheDjBrynny all you need to do is purchase the app. Thats it. No charges after it. Works off the GPS built in to the iPhone, no costs associated with the GPS.

  • @aciddrmz send me private message

  • @aciddrmz pm me

  • @aciddrmz i can get one of them for u, you want new or used?

  • its illegal. :S

  • how? Please Tell us!

  • It is illegal dude...

  • Did he say it cost $59.99????

  • £59.99

  • DO YOU NEED THE INTERNET DATA PLAN FOR THE TOM TOM?

    CAN SOMEONE TELL ME PLEAE.

I want to buy it.. but i dont know... please help me out

    thanks

  • Nope, dont need internet connection.. It works by the build in gps receiver.. Ik got it installed yesterdays, its rlly awesome!

  • THanks JeLemmens..

    i really appreciate the help.

its been 4 days..... and im getting it installed today for 4 dollars.... yay

  • Nice :D i had it installed for 10 dollars.. And orderd an universel carkit for 15 dollars.. So for 25 i got a rlly good gps.. :D

Normally (here in Belgium) it still costs 99 euro (thats about 125 dollars..) honestley.. i think thats allot of money.. you can buy a gsp device for that.. :D

  • But i am considering for buying the carkit of tomtom for the iphone.. for the gps receiver in the carkit and handfree calling and stuff.. so maybe i'm gonna buy the carkit.. (still costs 99 euro here.. so again 125 dollars.. :D) Grtz!

  • Got the app already

  • You can use the regular map function as a gps that came with the phone. For me I will save the hundred bucks it goes step by step of directions like yahoo maps or mapquest. You can even see yourself on the route moving with a pin mark.

  • I just got tomtom on my iPhone and it runs faster than my tomtom rider isn't that canny lol it uses the built in GPS so it won't charge you as the maps are all included in the price. The map is bang up to date. I recommend it but how much is the holder? Nice clear vid btw :-)

  • do you need wi-fi ???

  • NO you downlad the ap files alrready

  • do u need the internet to use it?

  • No tom tom and navigon run strictly off of gps no internet needed, personally i prefer navigon I have both and navigon is way better specially with the new update.

  • hea could you have showed us the actual gps?

  • If you bothered paying attention. you could click the link at the start of the video.

  • Does tomtom navigation use download charges when ur using it on the iPhone 3G S? Also, does it charge money for using the maps on tomtom navigation on iPhone 3 G S?

  • hi can you tell me do u need a internet connection to use tomtom?

i heard that u need the car kit to use tomtom as the car kit gives signal boost is this true or can u get a good signal without the car kit?

lastly if u want to buy maps of diffrent countries how do u do that?

    thnx

  • Yes it uses the iphones internet while driving . you don't need a car kit just get a holder off ebay for £5.

If you want different countries simply buy them from the app store.

  • First, who needs all that shit? It is a fad and this stuff you have today is out tomorrow. They will keep changing to keep you buying often and they know how competitive people are to be current. I feel for you!

  • "due to iphone developer kit limitations they can only pause the ipod since it's a native app"

how come NAVIGON does not pause the ipod app when NAVIGON gives voice direction? instead it lowers down the ipod volume so you can hear the NAVIGONs voice better.

  • Does it require Internet to work? Or is everything preloaded so you don't need a 3G dataplan to work with it?

  • navigon got easy nice simple iphonish interface.

just my opinion, you should not need too many menu and options. gps is to get where you are going. should be easy and simple POI search.

just like the native iphone google maps, if it can just do 3D and (TTS)text to speech, it would be the perfect gps iphone app.

  • though navigons volume is better, it only lowers down the volume of ipod app when theres a voice guide. and if you have an online radio app it stays on, but does not lower the volume down when the navigon voice guide speaks.

  • tomtom is ok for now but needs update.

tomtom totally turns off the volume of the ipod when theres a voice guide then turns it back on. but if you have an online radio app tomtom turn it off and the radio never comes back on.

  • That's because the ipod is a native iphone app and the radio apps are not. Due to iphone developer kit limitations they can only pause the ipod since it's a native app. Much like pausing a video playing in youtube or safari.

  • i tried gmap, sygic, igo, navigon and tomtom.

result is navigon got the best except for the street names in the map that you cannot read and whatever happen to the option for navigon staying awake.

  • I didn't activate my phone yet but I have it unlocked and jailbroken so that I can use installous and upload apps through direct ssh with ifunbox and it works flawlessly to install with installous, so the first day I tryed navigon worked pretty well and after a while dropped gps lock on signal then got it back after a while on the highway then dropped before I reached my destination lool but I knew where I was going luckily then I tryed using it in florida and nothing

  • then tryed tom tom got a signal in a parking lot tryed it in the same spot again and then no signal I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS WRONG but I expected the gps to work just a little better (mind you that I have no plan yet so therefore no internet just yet !!) so any ideas on how to fix I already restored my phone and uploaded the apps back and still crap rebooted phone still crap results so does anyone have any other idea to get at least a lock on the gps !!

  • UPDATE !!!! I ACTUALLY GOT IT TO WORK FINE BUT I'm only talking about tom tom navigon is still in need of a fix, heres the thing I always need to type in at least where I am or departing from so that the gps can get some sort of idea where I am so that it can get a good signal lock on me so I thought originally gps's can just find you anywhere well since this is an assisted gps it uses cell phone towers for better lock on so you don't need to do what I'm doing with the entering address to find u

  • I also found out on my dads megallan gps it also required when we came back to NY from florida that it needed to some how get an idea where we were so my father had to make some adjustements then his gps worked fine so I assumed the same thing is like the iphone gps unless you have internet data to help the gps get a better gps through cell phone towers so yeah I'm probably going to make a video about that for those in need of help with just the gps itself with no data or anything !!

  • richard u dumbass its already on installous , noob

  • lol, i love installous

  • who ever is commenting this vids are total dumb fuckks

  • Well you're a hypocrite.

  • and yur a hippo:)

  • its like 99 dollars fuck that , i hope they hack it so it could be on installous

  • Does it also alert you on traffic??

  • is it a one time fee?

  • It's an app store download....they're always one time fees.

  • you need to do a road test. i heard it sucks on the road. that is gives late instruction. and is somewhat slow and if you get a call u have to restart it

  • ive done a road test and included links to that particular video. its on my channel.

  • Why is the TomTom GPS working without internet connection, how is that possible?

  • there's a GPS receiver in iphone

  • You don't need an internet connection for GPS to work. The iphone 3g&S has a GPS chip embedded, the maps are locally stored on your device.

If you are using Google Maps then you need an internet connection as it dynamically downloads the maps.

  • so this will work any where...? even if u dont have service correct?

  • Yes no service contract is required, doesn't use any data. However, iPhone has this concept of assisted GPS, if you get a weak GPS signal it correlates the data from cell towers. My experience is that the GPS chip in iphone isn't as powerful compared to the GPS that is installed in my car, nevertheless it's acceptable and works fine, I do occasionally lose the signal.

  • With the TomTom car kit this will actually correct limitations of the iphone GPS chipset.

  • dude can you send me the tomtom by email... and i will pay you half of the price,,,,,,,

  • lol

  • @josetoj1313 i can give me your email in private

  • Lol.... funny English accent... and yes I know where it's from

  • i havent got this app yet. but, it looks a lot more detailed than navigon

  • You have the sexiest voice ever. It had to be said. Oh, and nice video. ;)

  • nice vid dude im very interested in the car kit though make sure u do a vid when u get the kit cheers

  • will the GPS still keep working while accepting a phone call? Will the announcements keep speaking while talking on the phone?

will it play music while in GPS mode?

  • Music works fine in gps mode, it mutes while an instruction is given and then continues. If you get a call, the app is paused, when call finishes it goes back to the app.

  • Thanks.

So, if I receive a lengthy phone call, I am without driving guidance for the entire call? I am not pleased with that. Everything else sounds good, but I would definitely need navigation while speaking to clients.

Please correct me if I misunderstood you.

    THANKS!

  • That's correct. The iphone can't multitask unless you jailbreak it.

  • Cool. I've been waiting for this app since mentioned at the 3Gs launch.

  • Oh my fucking christ. everything listed in technology videos deals with a goddamn phone. who fucking cares. get a bitch and fucker. its a fucking phone.

  • Do headphones work with this app? Just wondered as might use it on my motorbike.

  • Yes

  • Works really well but sucks down the battery. Aussie version doesn't seem to have postecodes or speed/red light camera warnings. It does alert to overspeed but no audio alarm with it...needs some interfaces like 'Trapster'

  • $99 one time fee is better than AT&T $10 a month GPS service which is crap.

  • u dont need internet it uses gps and maps are saved to phone

  • hi, i was wondering b4 buyin this app that if it needed the internet? cuz i know navigon doesnt require internet. thnx

  • 99 isn't bad for a GPS navigation "system" they usually start off at $100

  • 60 pounds, good value for money. Awesome application

  • Well done .....review or overview who cares !!! Excellent 5 min rundown . Some people are never happy .

  • meh.. thanks ;). ive done a part 2, showing how it works out on the streets. check it out if need be.

  • hi i was wondering if this app require internet connection

  • no

    just GPS

  • No internet connection needed

  • dude

  • i downloaded it couple of hours ago but the signal in my area is poor so it thinks im on the other side of my town then where i really am, but if you get a good signal in your area then i would imagine it would be accurate. I probably will purchase the holder to enhance my gps signal to resolve that problem. Also, i found that the demo route was a bit slow, perhaps have an option to view at varying speeds? other than that i think its pretty cool.

  • i think they aint gonna have many customers with that price!

  • dude thats a lot of money just for one app I wouldn't pay that, what if they come out with this in the next update but anyway nice video

  • dude one word for you "functionality" needs a video showing it in testing, this was a waste of time

  • Another video going up just now demonstrating in-car usage.

  • Does it use data? As in from the internet, or only relies on GPS signal from towers.

  • @productfeedback yes it uses internet for Assisted GPS - downloads the list of satellites that are flying above your phone to get a lock on your location faster, the lists are small like maybe 10KB at max. although you may disconnect data on your iphone so it uses "cold" GPS but then it will take a bit longer to locate you

  • stupid video ... we see anything useful... :-(

  • Can you avoid narrow lanes ?,I have a caravan and my normal TomTom doesn't seem to have a feature to avoid lanes,I need some sort of HGV feature ?

  • Are you running this on the 3G or 3GS?

  • 3GS

  • hey units 3 i cant find this app on app store. what?? anyway if people are so bovvered about paying sixty quid they should jailbreak and get it free

  • Well, you put "Review" in the title mate, so that's what I was expecting. I'm just looking for a proper review so I can decide between a stand alone GPS system or an app like TomTom for my 3GS?

By the way, I wasn't trying to be rude, I'm just impatiently searching YouTube for a review for this app so I can made a decision on what to purchase.

    Cheers,

    AreJayOne

  • i had changed it to 'overview' within the video and i think i even said the terms 'quick overview' in the starting moments of this video. let me test this gps out thoroughly and ill provide my views on it in a weeks time. p.s. apologies if i came across negatively, was in the heat of the moment.

  • great review !!!!

  • Thanks for this video

  • Thanks for posting. There were a few app features I wasn't sure how it looked, but, it seems easier to navigate through than a TomTom One.

Now all I need is the car kit and the Western Europe maps will sit happily on my phone

  • no probs ;) - lets see how much they charge for the kit - i think around 25 quid is going to be sensible.

  • This isn't a review! Your/He's just playing with the settings! How about showing us the key features or take it for a drive so we can see it in action. What the heck do I want to see the about screen for? Come on man, give us a real review!

  • I can't please everyone. How about buying it yourself and making your own mind up. Jeez.

  • Thanks for reviewing this, was very helpful!

  • thx, i have the awers to my questions

  • Epic failure!

  • you the best and on top of this

  • Another great video! Thanks for sharing - I was thinking about getting this App but wasn't sure. And btw - how do you know where I live? :P

  • Thanks for the quick overview!

  • Really nice overview, thanks a lot !

  • nice review but im going to wait for the car kit as well get both together

  • Great review, as the other posters have expressed a look at the actual screen shot of the maps would be nice. Cheers, Paul

  • As mentioned previously... show an actual map! Thanks for the menu walk through anyway.

  • this is rather a TomTom app MENU review

a gps app review should answer what the viewers care more about, for example,

how fast it locks the sat

    the map

    the voice

and a driving trip would be best

  • As I said a million times, hang on for the review. Let me test the software properly before giving a real review out. As I said at the start of this video, its more an overview.

  • A gps review is not given in two hours. Its tested thoroughly, like with all my apps, for about a week and then I provide a detailed review on it. You must be on a different planet if you think I could do a proper review in an hours time. Let me test this bad boy out for a week, let me check if its buggy or not and then ill report back.

  • which iPhone are you using? 3G or 3GS?

  • It's a 3 GS coz it has battery percentages on.

  • Doesn't mean anythind.....can be Jailbroken

  • 3GS mate

  • Appreciate the review but you could have at least opened up a map so we could have a quick peek. Are the maps as clear as the screenshots on the App Store?

My experience of seeing GPS screenshots in catalogues is nothing compared to what you see on the cheap crappy screens of the actual units.

  • My bad, I should have shown a preview. Rest assured, the pics you see on the the app store are indeed correct. you can set it to either 2D or 3D view, which ever you prefer.

  • Okay, true. But you could hardly call an iPhone screen a "cheap crappy screen" :)

  • Nice review. Looking forward to a full review if the navigation. Also is it poss to add additional voices- I'm thinking if the Homer Simpson one ..lol

Wish TomTom would be clear on the timing and pricing of the cradle. Even though I've been waiting for this, I might hold off until it's clear on weather it's cheaper to buy the app and cradle together.

  • it just says, coming soon - stay intouch. no date given

  • looking forward to it hitting the States

  • hits out at midnight, not long to go i guess lol. and there i was thinking the UK will get it last ;)

  • did the app only say coming soon with the dock / cradle? I really want this thing. I couldn't make out a date.

  • is it out in the states yet? and will it work on ipod touch :P

  • it should with the cradle

  • Show us the map !

  • i usually do in-depth reviews a week or two later, let me test this thing out thoroughly before splashing it all out.

  • Well done that was quick.

  • Cheers, I thought it would help those out who are thinking about dishin out 60 quid. i think its yet to be released in the states

  • Great overview, ill probably use this instead of Navigon MobileNavigator.
