Have you been able to fire the 866 independently (not being a slave) while not being attached to the camera? I.e. the cameras flash is closed while the speedlight is the primary flash?
@GrenadeOfKnowledge Well no, you need a way of triggering it... How is the flash suppose to know that you pressed the shutter release? If you don't use a cable or radio triggers the only other method using that flash off camera is through light, infrared like the ST-E2 or the internal flash.
Hi mate. Are there any benefits of using a Canon speedlight with the 7D instead of a Nissin? For example, do the 7Ds options integrate with the Nissin's settings ok?
@Mubble I did not have any problems with the Nissin, though some said that the Nissins output power varies from shot to shot, so one image might be underexposed, while the same shot taken seconds later was overexposed. rarely happens to me. of course you wouldn't have any troubles like that buying the canon flashes
@superkepin My DI866 makes the same noise from the body(I'm not talking about the noise from the motor then I zoom in and out)....I hope it's not baaaad!
I am now in a war of choosing whether to buy the SB900 or the Nissin Di866.
I have a D3000.If i get this flash with a Tamron 70-300. If i reach to 200mm focal length or others which exceeds the limit(above 105mm focal range) , will the flash still fire? 12 minutes ago

@DeMuffinProduction the built-in flash of the 500D won't be able to fire the Nissin wirelessly.

Thank you for interesting review!
What about use with inexpensive chines radio trigger like Cactus v4 or Yongnuo RF602?
P.S. In review on dpanswers-com says actual power of Di866 lower than specified in manual.
uzverkmstube 1 year ago
@uzverkmstube the nissin will work with the inexpensive triggers just as any other flash would. the yongnuo i heard isn't bad.
