  • i learned this in fifth grade-come to hawaii... bumbai we show you how for strum. (thiss'll probably onlky make sense if you're from hawaii:)

  • my ears hurt.

  • Even the rabbits are watching.

  • i am a 12 yr old girl and my class can play all of those cords thanks to out music teacher !

  • Cool teacher. See if you can learn the Best Ukulele Strum in the World as well. Then invite me over for your Concert.

  • He's not kidding... It's the best ukulele strum in the WORLD!

  • Kinda coldplay styley

  • Almost got this strum down to a T. Bit more work should get me there :D Sounds a lot better than just playing D D U U D U xD

  • the memory of the strump is like playing simon that colour memory game

  • What's the tuning?

  • Isn't the top string supposed to be sound the lowest ?

  • D (d) U D (d) U D U D (d) U D (d) U D U (repeat)

    ...i think

i swear you play two different versions in slow and even slower o: like one strum difference towards the end? idk.

  • @astrociously It's true:

    In slow he plays

    D (d) U D (d) U D U D (d) U D (d) U D (d)

In slower it's like you wrote

    D (d) U D (d) U D U D (d) U D (d) U D U

And I only had to watch it 5000 times to figure it out.

Not sure which is correct though.

  • don't be afraid to try this guys! i picked up my first uke yesterday with no prior stringed instrument experience and after working on it on and off through the day today i have it down already. it sounds so wonderful. i also decided your tuning sound better. thanks!!!!

  • D(d) U(d) D U D U

  • Thanks!

  • F7M

  • slower 0:26

  • what are the noted for your tunings it sounds so epic??

  • thank you, beautiful strum pattern :D

  • I can see how my strum differs to yours...I couldn't hear it at first...but now I have the two vids to watch I can understand. I'm delighted the way it went for me...even if the destination wasn't the one planned. I have always viewed guitar/uke as being a 'head and heart' combo. The left hand being the head...the 'clever/controlled/in command' bit and the right hand is the heart...free/expressive/less bound by the rules. Your tutorials show this i think. They are a great asset the Uke community

  • I am also wondering how your uke is tuned, and what chords you are using during this. Just starting out so dumb it down if at all possible... love the vids, this strum is kick ass!

  • Guitar, now THAT's a real instrument.

  • @WoWintosh Every instrument is a real instrument.

  • Out of curiosity, how do you have your uke tuned?

  • One tone (two steps) higher than normal. There is a video on my [page of the strum in Standard tuning

  • Comment removed

  • Hey kool strum...nice sound on that uku..could I ask the name of that uku you are playing and what strings are fitted please.

    keep up the good work;)

  • Somewhere buried in the comments is the name of this Uke! It took me a long time with a strong torch and a pair of thick glasses trying to make out the name and serial number. Take a peak through the pages !

  • Hey! people use that strumming pattern in the spanish guitar style hahaha thats NICE, me likey :D

  • That's impressive! I'm digging it.

Just bought my uke about a few days ago and I love it!

It's the pineapple one! I have it too! it's pretty awesome.

  • pineapples taking over the world :-)

  • compared to the classical , electric and regular acoustic guitar, is the uke easier to play?

  • Thanks for sharing. This strum is awesome!

  • Very nice...!!!

  • great strum thanks

  • thank you very much

  • would it work on a soprano ukulele - I bet it would sound quite high pitched!

  • ya'll know this strum is a common Mexican Strumming pattern for guitar right?

  • what are those chords? they sound cool!

  • @bluberrypenguin G6 first and then Cmaj7

  • nice strum man.... very nice indeed.... For anyone who needs it, he's doing -

DWN THB UP DWN THB UP DWN UP Repeat

  • thank you for that :)

  • nice.... gonna learn this when i get home

  • what type of ukulele do you use? tenor, seprano? :S

  • that's either a soprano or concert. Same neck, two different possible bodies. I can't tell. My guess is it's soprano, because you don't find many concert pinnaple ukes.

  • Normally these "Best in the world" videos suck but that is actually quite possibly officially the coolest Uke strum ever.

  • Its elegant and gentyl challenging. What more could we need ! Thanks

  • I NEED ONE!! <3 <3

  • I'll be sending you one :-)

  • YAY! XD

  • That's freakin' sweet!

  • Naw the best strum is way more complicated and its to hard to explain! but this is a nice strum not the best but certainly good!

  • the traditional way of pronouncing it is "oo-koo-lay-lay", but whatever

  • I like the Formby styles better.

  • Sounds Pretty.

I have the same uke. But mines came in black strings. Should I restric it?

    Danny

  • This is a lot like clawhammer banjo playing

  • nope, clawhammer is down strokes only. down dooby doo down down. but it is on the up and up n all eh :)

  • i kind of got the strumming and picking part, but may i ask, what chords are you using? thanks

  • you sAid uku-lei-ly?

  • Because I live in the Yoo-Kay maybe. :-)

  • Haha, i live in the Yoo-Kay too :)

  • thats how u say it.. not oo-koo-laylee

  • originaly its ookoo lele not youkulele

  • o_o you do say it oo-koo-lay-lay...unless you're from the "mainland" which I am. But do some research man.

This strum is pretty sweet though! I'm going to have to try it.

  • I tried this on guitar as I don't own a uke, I don't know why I'm watching this; Anyway, it sounded pretty good. Just find a good chord then pick the bass and strum the pattern the same as this one, I might use it in my next song, thank god there is no copyright on chord patterns. :D

  • Ukulele is a generous god. I'm also grateful !

  • Very exellent !!! Thank a lot for your lesson ;-) !!!

  • thats ace but i really can't do it!! my way is persistance! :D

  • Its easier than eating with a tongue piercing . . . . . . well a bit. Make a "Persisting with the Best Ukulele Strum in the World" Video, please.

  • p.s. lindseybeerock did one. Check her YouTube page for inspired almost persisting.

  • cool. sounds... different... as i do :D

  • Not the best strum but it's ok.

  • there is no "best"

    its definitely opinionated.

  • These a long words for a Strum so sweet.

  • Niceee I love the mellow tone of it man! Very well done. I will definitely be playing this

  • I like the strum and I love the tuning, Ill try the tuning some time, good job!

  • could you do this again... slower?

  • A placebo version of the Best Ukulele Strum in the World!? That you can eat. Intriguing thought. COVEYMAN

  • its really "oo-koo-leh-leh", but a lot of people say it as "yoo-kah-lay-lee".

  • Perhaps its to do with living in the UK, not the OOO K !

  • hahahahaha

  • Sounds a little like a Huapango.

  • Absolutely right. I first heard this strum years ago on an old VHS about music in South America. Some old fella, way out in the country, used the strum to accompany Harp on his spanish guitar. Piers

  • i think i can do this!

  • hahah alright if i ever go over, ill hit u up yeah?? aight...

    richwood.. going on ebay now!!

peace. thanks for liking my playing haha :D :D once i get a video thing like u ill put up something better :D

oh and you can't have it !

  • ugh !

  • the pronunciation was right in how he said it, it's just his accent!!!

  • Thanks MJ. Lets get some ~ Southern Hemisphere perspective in here!. Piers
