  • daniel sterns story was far more realistic than anyone else you could really tell if he was just making this up...very authentic..

  • Only 4 people died initially & a couple more later of severe burns. They have a response/rebuttal to the shows claim on their website; just type in Is Widecombe a Ghost Town? into google.

  • this series isnt as realistic or scary as haunted britiain

  • least convincing 1600's costumes i have ever seen.

  • @waterloosunset12

1600 chruchs have I beems in them too :/

  • Daniel Stern story was interesting! But Shelly's story is Way to Boring! im finding it Very hard to pay attention to her story. smh Next!

  • At 2:24 ... I didn't know they had telephones and clipboards in the 1600's. Just sayin...

  • FAKE as it can be!! Just famous persons that one be in the spotlight egain an d aigain. I wanna see people filming at that so called ghost town. If this is true...the scientist have their proof for 110%.

And walking dead people?? That are zombies in my opninion. There are some things that are supernatural, but 99% of the cases its the poeples own imagination or problems with elektricitie or infra-sounds. But still...there are some strange things, but so many ghost videos since Youtube excist???

  • Four words: Road Trip to England!!!

  • So um, if the church steeple fell down, how was it still there when the couple visited? xD

  • @PsychoFrankIero they rebuild these things

  • the best bit i like on the program is when they tell you how the ghost got there like the story behing it all but the program freaks me out its just so adictive to wach

  • I thought the woman said in the previews that she saw spirits walking around?! Why was it cut out?!

  • I'm a but of a sceptic even though I have had an experience. I just don't know whether to believe things from 'actors' you know?

  • I believe that some people are more sensitive than others. It's possible that because something tragic happened there, Daniel and his wife were able to pick up on that energy. That's why, I believe, one person may have many experiences in a particular place whereas another may have none. Also, I believe that when a person is sensitive and picks up on a certain energy, their mind may go off on its own while trying to make sense of it.

  • Why would he say, "We gotta go back." Go back to what? It's not a real town, really. As if anyone really works there at a garage, if there even is one. It would only become dark and the ghosts, I would have thought...blew out my tire. So if he were alone, he would have gone back? I would have rode that rim to death too.

  • i belive stern i walked through that village at night once and i was fucking terrfiied.

  • Silent hill?

  • Daniel did say Scotch was their picnic lunch...

  • this is RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whats wrong with shellys neck?

  • @sirpico123 It's called getting old.

  • Well, it seems they did have an experience of some sort, that they felt was paranormal. This is no reflection on Widecombe itself, apart from the hotelier's comments, who may, let's face it, have had an agenda of his own! It's possible that they did find themselves in some sort of time slip and/or surrounded by the spirits of those affected by the fire. Four died & an unspecified number later on from burns.. The old woman may have spoken an old dialect, Old English or perhaps Breton/Cornish.

  • I want to believe Daniel Stern's story, but I can't. The actual facts don't match up to it being a "paranormal" experience. It's such a grand and ridiculous story, I want it to be real.

  • Thumbs up if you went on Google map and street-viewed Widecombe :) It's not abandoned, there's actually normal people walking around there. xD

  • I would like to make a comment regarding Widecombe, Devonshire, UK.

"Regarding the people dressed in black. In rural areas of Devon, when there is a funeral of someone local or well known, most of the local people turn out to pay their last respects to the departed. It is possible that when the TV presenter was in the village, an event of this kind was taking place, and we would all have been in a solemn or sombre mood.

    Yours sincerely,

    A. E. Beard (Hon. Secretary)

    Widecombe History Group

  • Ive been in that town.. i think its called silent hill.

  • let alone Americans Te he =)

  • WIDECOMBE - On Sunday 21st October 1638, when the church was full for a service, a terrible thunder storm threatened the valley. One of the four pinnacles of the church tower was struck by lightening, with the result that it came crashing through the roof of the church and killed four people.

  • funny how theres no town calledwhiddicombe

  • @COD4BestRankings and you would know this how?

  • @TheQueenOfTheWolves ITs not on the map and searched it if not i also heard that ppl acully live there all theese celebrities are lying

  • @COD4BestRankings ok just because it's not on the map dosn't mean it doesn't exist and second you didn't HEAR people accually live there some one wrote that on here so you read it so NYAA! Xb

  • @COD4BestRankings

yes there is. I've been there. It has a lovely pub

  • @tornadoe13 yea i read more but its not haunted

  • @COD4BestRankings

it is actually. The pub is haunted and its near kitty jays grave

  • @COD4BestRankings yes look it up

  • Widecomb is not a ghost town lmao wth. There's actually people who live there lmao.

  • The ghost town story sounds like a typical American's view of England or any other country. It's just a small town where people stick together and don't talk to arrogant american tourists who think the town's people are weirdlooking zombies.

  • @SlippinPegs How about the story of the church accident in the 1600's - is it true?

  • @averywatts How do I know? And even if it is doesn't mean the town is haunted.

  • bullshit

  • is widecomb real?

  • @thenatchip withycombe does exist

  • Normally, I like the production values on this show, but the "fire" in the church was just awful. It looked like someone did it on some sort of 3-D rendering program on a home computer.

  • @gojewla yeah it looked a little shitty, but shows like this are more about the story than the effects. Wouldn't imagine shows like this would have a huge budget.

  • Why is Curt Cobain haunting Shelley Long?

  • " Tourism is a major source of income for Widecombe today, as reflected by the fact that within a small area there are several gift shops (including a National Trust shop), two cafes and two pubs"

    ?? (Wikipedia entry about Widdecombe)

  • ppl bitch too much i dont care if the story is true or not its the best ghost story i have seen on here...so a town cant be haunted if it has a fair??? thats interesting

  • @mattball1717

I know for real. The town is very alive.

  • @Jadama0 you mean alive with dead alive?

  • Ok..Widecome is still an inhabited town, and it has an annual fair that is a major tourist attraction. Pretty much have to call BS on this story. Makes you wonder how much of this show is embellished, scripted.

  • Stren's stroy is sounding more and more like a Silent Hill or a Resident Evil game

  • @7:36 Ha! Cue the creepy violin! Perfect. I love Shelley Long.

  • I just realized I've made a huge mistake, & I apologize. I've engaged a troll. I take that back, and will not be responding anymore. Don't feed the trolls. You only assist in temporary filling that hole in their life that makes them spend so much time spewing their personal dissatisfaction towards strangers via Youtube. Sad.

  • Pause at 08:09.. now thats scary!

  • Daniel Stern didnt think to just change the tyre? Oh right .. he's Jewish.

  • @scrollandkey what the hell is a tyre... perhaps you mean tire? oh right... you're uneducated.

  • @xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx I believe both spellings are acceptable.

  • @scrollandkey by who's standards, certainly not websters, either way, you're a jackass for assuming someone can't change one because of their religion. jackass= a contemptibly foolish or stupid person; dolt; blockhead; ass.

  • @xXxXBleedPurpleXxXx I think you'll find that Webster's International does contain the variation. Concerning my reference to Daniel Stern, its a common joke amongst Jewish people that they arent suited for manual labour. Before you jump to conclusions you should do your research. Otherwise you may end up looking like a jackass.

  • @scrollandkey you're nothing more then a racist bitch. you are worthless and people like you cracking little jokes thinking oh it's funny its cute need to pull your heads out of your asses and realize theres much better things you can be doing with your time then attempting to make it acceptable to crack jokes about someones beliefs or back round. you are sad, pathetic, and a waste of air. keep passing it on to your own children i'm sure your community will appreciate it.

  • @scrollandkey Unless you're Jewish, it's a no go. When a marginalized group of people try to find some comic relief over their marginalization through inside jokes or "taking back" a bigoted slur, that's not an open invite for the privileged to do it too; they started it in the first place. If people weren't saying those terrible things, then marginalized groups wouldn't have to laugh it off now and then between themselves just to get through. Fuck off with the privileged ignorance.

  • @1oErdoben Jewish people referring to their distain for manual labour was never a "taking back a bigoted

slur", it was a creation of their own self-deprecating humour. They are gifted with a sense of humour and are willing to laugh at themselves and others.

Sour, hateful, maladjusted people such as yourself enjoy conflict and therefore promote hostility among people in order to forment hate. What people such as yourself fear most of all is love, peace and harmony. Your lifes work is hate.

  • @scrollandkey Wow, well done troll. Way to make grands assumptions about a stranger because they don't approve of you making fun of a marginalized group that you admittedly don't belong to. That makes sense. Not all Jewish people are gifted with a sense of humour either, because they're individuals. Stop making sweeping generalizations about large groups of people. Does it count for anything that 2 of my Jewish friends were offended by your post? 'Course not.

  • Daniel Stern's story is blown out of proportion. Only four people died when the church tower collapsed.

  • @shgibby61981 that doesn't mean much, imagine how many other devoted members of the church have passed away period, im not saying it didnt seem exaggerated but theres probably many members of the church who have passed for other reasons who may very well be attached as well.

  • i think that Daniel Stern's story was the most freakiest story i've ever heard. i have looked it up and found the stories of the fire of the church. and the stories of how many people died. i think his story is true. i think they did see spirits of the people that died that day. now, i think that maybe some of it, was added. but i think that they did have a true supernatural encounter at that town. i am a firm believer in the supernatural and things can happen that we have no explanation for!

  • OMFG Dan Stern's story got to be the damned scarest story I've heard on this series...oh, there was one but it was taken down-one about the Chelsea Hotel but THIS IS F**KING FREAKY...not again, I've peed myself

  • The church was badly damaged in the Great Thunderstorm of 1638, apparently struck by ball lightning during a severe thunderstorm. An afternoon service was taking place at the time, and the building was packed with approximately 300 worshippers. Four of them were killed, around 60 injured. According to local legend, the Great Thunderstorm was caused by the village being visited by the Devil.

  • @Imachowderhead That saddened me. I felt sorry for this terrible destruction that happened that year, and I don't believe God did that. :-( Furthermore, I think the ghosts need to know that the tragedy is already over, and that they should move on. Do you agree?

  • If this is about wilmington, why does it show Savannah river st. @ 4:36??

  • @Georgiamyheart oops i mean @ 4:32

  • is she drunk or has she had a STROKE ?

  • Hang on, only 4 people died in the 'great thunderstorm'.

  • out of curiosity, I looked up the place Daniel stern mentioned and found it on google maps. It's spelled Widecombe and is near Tavistock.

There's cars there, so obviously people aren't avoiding it...

  • @Annie1962 Yeah its real and the story about the church is real (said to have been a visit by the devil to take some souls) but you're right, theres about 200 families live there now. No idea what it was like 30 years ago tho.

  • @cmpunk1977 - I used to live in the area and yes, the spelling is now Widecombe, but has had the variations of Whiddicombe, Widdicombe and Widicombe given to it over the years.

The local people have an extremely strong accent and even for some English people it's hard to understand, so this could have been what he interpreted as 'speaking in tongues'. No offence to my American friends, but Americans generally have a hard time understanding non-American accents. But interesting story either way.

  • @GhostAholics Yeah my American friends have often said I talk way too fast to be understood, so your scenario is more realistic than Stern's. :)

  • @GhostAholics

You know what I thought, they've bumped into someone with a thick local accent, and no offence to people from Devon, the older generation can be quite stand off-ish to anyone further north than Dawlish let alone Americans.

As for Widecombe now, its a gorgeous, lovely moor town, about as far from a ghost town as you can get.

  • @totallyshocklate - yeah, completely agree with you there! I lived in Bude for a while a long time ago, and met a couple who had tried to make a living there for 15 years, but gave up because they just couldn't get accepted by the locals! Loads of history in Devon & Cornwall and I have fond memories of my time there, but wouldn't want to live there again I don't think :-)

  • @GhostAholics Seen the snub in small clique towns here in the U.S., as well. Don't feel alone. lol.

  • @totallyshocklate so you think he's lying?? have u been there? i am just curious as to how....he came up with this..i believe in ghosts 20394238940823% BUT this seems out there!

  • @totallyshocklate

Yes, yours is an equally plausible explanation - it might have just seemed like they were in a ghost town, and could well just have been someones accent, combined with the remoteness/picturesque nature of the place.

  • @totallyshocklate or romanian gypsy begger

  • @cmpunk1977 then they would say: it's the devil! now we say: bad weather, that's just nature. if the spirits were still around, it's because of trauma.

  • @black4pienus I totally think the Devil story is superstition and a story to get people to pay attention in church. Like you say, just a random lightning bolt that hit the biggest structure in the town.
