@figter0223 I made plans to build the desk and got in contact with a custom builder who's a friend of mine and he took my plans and ideas including my measurements and went to work. I'm pretty OCD when it comes to certain things like which side I wanted to have my tower sit and how I wanted a lip at the back of the desk to hide all the cables so you wouldn't see cables under the desk. there's tons of wiring holes to allow easy management.
@stunner1313 Hey Stunner1313, The desk is solid Oak which was stained and then lacquered clear with bar top grade lacquer in a matt finish. I stayed away from paints and laminates. The stain was sprayed on over 3 or 4 coats, I can't remember. The colour looks black but up close and under the lights you can see its really rich and deep red. You wouldn't notice it unless you were actually in front of it under the light though. Cheers
@MacUserLogic finally i seen a gaming setup like this at 0:30-0:39 except the guy was playing video games and all of that or maybe there's one just like your's in 0:30-0:39
@figter0223 Oh the desk similar to the glass desk in my video, thats probably true. That was an older Ikea glass top desk. I thought you were saying someone had the same Solid Oak desk that I have which I designed and had custom made. I was a bit curious. Thanks
@DickKnowsBest Thanks :) I did design it all my self and then talked to a builder who's a friend of mine and he took my idea and made it a reality. Solid Oak makes it super solid. This desk doesn't budge lol I'll try and put a video together of the desk but I need some better lighting first
I used to do a lot of multitrack recording back in 1998. I had a rackmount PC case and an old Layla 20/20. I sold the Layla back in 2003 and the rackmount case back in 2007. They were great when I had my studio.
wow that's an amazing desk. I'd really like to know, can you slide the keyboard forwards and backward (to be less or more underneath the desk) or is it in a fixed position? thanks
@billevansful the desk is currently set up with the piano controller in a fixed position, though, if i wanted to spend the time and money to build it so it slid back into the desk I could have but didn't see it being as solid over long period of time.
@MacUserLogic establishing a suitable work area for an 88 keys keyboard desk set-up is v challenging if you want all your real-estate to be face on. can i ask what type wood are you using? it looks nice and chunky and v sturdy which is important if you don't want the desk to shake when your bashing away on the keyboard or playing music loudly (as everything is attached). finally do you have any golden advice at all that will help me help myself build a similar desk which i plan to do.
@billevansful I'm using 3/4" Solid Oak doubled up, glued and screwed to make an extremely solid 1-1/2" thickness. a lot of the supports are not visible, this desk wont budge no matter how hard you hit the keys. I can't even pick it up from the side and move it haha. If you you have specific questions, message me and i'll be glad to help where I can.
@MacUserLogic Is this custom built? How much did it cost you and how was this designed? If you purchased it directly, could tell me about the make/model/company?What chair do you use such that you are at the right playing height for the piano and handling the mouse/keyboard? I have a motif xs 8, 22" monitor, macbook pro laptop, monitor speakers and a midi controller. I am really struggling setting these up such that I can be at one place like you have your work area setup.
@rjk1482 The Desk was a custom design I put together with a client of mine who builds high end custom furniture. Desk probably cost close to $3,500 but we did some trade off's between my studio time & his labour. So in the end, i'm not really sure how much i personally put forward. The desk was custom sized using measurements from everything from my leg height to the depth of my mac pro and the width of my MIDI controller. Desk looks simple but it was pretty complex how we designed it.
@dcproductionsTV Thanks! its so much more functional then my previous setup. though the studio was a mess for a little while it turned out really nicely
@danonabouncycastle Yup, I have a 1" Thick piece of oak to match the desk screwed and PL400 onto the wall between the sound panels and into extra support studs built into the wall. That one piece of oak holds all four 24" LCD Monitors and my two Yamaha NS10's
Your remix is way better than the original.

Did you put a laminate on this desk, paint, or stain? I was just mainly curious how you decided to finish such a beautiful desk!
