  • genious!

  • he's an entire drumline

  • bobby jarzombek is the best drummer on this world ...

  • im sure there are a lot of great drummers and musicians here and that all of you know what polyrythms really are. so im sure none of you will disagree that Racerdew is pretty much the only reasonable person here. im not that into Terry Bozzio but I do know about musical theory, drums and music and what he does is not polyrythms. it is improv. a plain and simple 4/4 beat with his feat and improv with his hands. nothing fancy about this video besides the overkill of toms.

  • I've been really into Bozzio but this solo did appeal to me. Mind you, when you have a drumset that unique it isn't different to stand out. I wouldn't imagine this guy could do much with a basic five piece, but then again I've never seen him on a small kit.

  • All of his cymbals sound like shit.

  • this is the first terry bozzio piece that i actually find myself liking. hes a great drummer with great technique and certainly one of the best but his style just isnt to my liking. this one, however, does appeal to me

  • Terry is definately one of the best

  • OMG GIGANTIC WTF!!!

  • when terry bozzio was in battle of the bands he freaked the audience because they thought they heard 10 people playing drums, but it was only terry bozzio

  • @touravanhable

there are 2 drum loops in this video -_-

  • @Realzi No there aren't. Just one independently limbed genius of the drums

  • its just a mega tenor drum with cymbals and a bass drum attached.

  • wow he is my hero one day i will be better like wen im 35 and have been working on it for many years but mainly his triplets are uber insane

  • this makes me feel like im getting chased by a lion in a jungle

  • i love the latin polyrythmic foot idea followed by a kindof merengue feel with the drums so genius

  • I watched him in Sundsvall SWEDEN some years ago, and HE was giving everything to us!

    Thanks Terry!

He was inspiring between solos, during solos he hold the sparkle hot and brilliant!

  • Bozzio doesn't play rhythms...

    He plays melodies!

  • the audio on this sux but if u listen real close u can hear that his bass drums are tuned to two true different pitches so it sounds like a bass line and his hands are just so devastating and his like 50 years old at this point in time! A true freak of nature! I love the violence in his playing !

  • @carnagetour He has multiple bass drums. I'm not sure how many are in this kit, but if you look in the beginning, you can see the bass drum on the right hand side... it's sorta "outside" of the kit even lol

  • thats not the whole set.

  • I respect his talent, but I just dont like the way he plays, but he is good.

  • i saw terry play in houston at the drum keyboard guitar shop in the early 90's. I still remember it to this day. The style was different and he had 5 bass drums! The time phrasing was mind boggling....almost too much to comprehend when its right in front of you!!!!

  • I wonder who gets to tune all those toms to each other? I don't wanna be that guy.

  • @CrackedB8s My bet? Bozzio himself.

  • If you listen you can see that he has some kick ass ideas. The problem is it gets a bit dull when most of what you hear is in the same pitch range.

  • I got a fever! and the only cure is MORE TOMS!!!!

  • The first Bozzio solo that didn't bore me within a minute or two. I know the guy's got chops, and a serious pedigree, but damn his style usually makes me want to poke my ears out with a fork.

  • I heard this song before on just audio, now just seeing it before my eyes is pretty cool. You know he's got some history and great talent. Does anyone know if he name this song? i can only recall Track #.

  • How many pieces have this drumkit?

  • this one i don't know, but i know he now has 7 bass drums and between 20 and 30 toms

  • @EduardDewey I don't think we have any rights to know the answer to your question, your very rude question

  • what?

  • If you listen carefully to this solo you can hear many musical ideas here that most drummers can SAY they find boring but usually it's only boring because their attention span is that of a 2 week old kitten with a ball of yarn. Enjoyable polyrhythm with some interesting sounds and ideas expressed. Like Bozzios style, ideas, etc or not, the man had more credentials at 25 playing with Zappa after his schooling than most of us will have in our lifetimes playing music. Legend.

  • @PositivelyBored

Pretty sweeping and condescending statement about "most drummers" You want polyrhythem try listening to Seth Davis, all done on a 4 piece drum kit.

Search for "Seth Davis - Insane Drum Solo" And he not just an Olympian drummer.

  • You misinterpeted what I said. I didn't say that "most drummers find him boring because of their attention span", but that most drummers WHO FIND HIM BORING likely don't have much of an attention span. That is not to say their opinion is right or wrong, either. And yes there are drummers who have far and away taken polyrhythms and independence beyond what Bozzio is doing here.

  • @PositivelyBored Great comment, but the attention span part was wrong to compare it with that kitten though, because they only concentrate on that ball of wool.

  • @PositivelyBored Totally agree!!!!

  • @PositivelyBored first of all im not hating on bozzio, but just because he WAS in a great band doesnt mean that this ^^ type of drumming is legendery. i think your looking a little too hard for greatness that i dont think is here. dont get me wrong its cool, but he isnt playing a "polyrythm" its just a simple ostinato, with simple phraseing. he always starts on the down beats, mostly all 16th note rythms, not odd groupings or crazy independence. it lacked dynamics and feel, not very exciting.

  • @Racerdew

That is fine, you are entitled to your opinion about preference

To me greatness is being individual and standing out from the common pigeonholes..I've always thought of Terry being one of those guys

...the definition of polyrhythm is mutliple or many rhythms. His foot ostinato is one rhythm (one, ah two, ah three, ah four, ah...etc) while his hands are playing another...I think you know where I am going...

lacked dynamics and feel: really??! lol

  • @PositivelyBored a true polyrythm is when you play any phrase lets use dotted 8ths for example. treat it as a modulation. this new grouping becomes your new pulse. keeping track of where your original quarter note falls while you solo in your new pulse. ofcourse poylyrythm can mean many rythms, but thats not truly what it is. and yes it lacked dynamics. everything was at the same volume. he diddnt take the solo anywhere it stayed stale. Ofcourse this is my opinion, but its an educated one.

  • That kit goes all the way to 11:-)

  • @briandavie I think it goes past 11.

  • of course his drumsticks have to be based on hitting toms lol

  • that sounds like there is 2 drummers, wow !

  • God please stop letting people have their own opinion on things...

  • hahaha in a way i agree with you, most of the time i wish people couldn't comment anything on youtube, but hey, it's just youtube. if someone claims he's right... good for him! he's right in his bedroom only!

let them say whatever they want even if you don't agree with them!!

  • damnit, just sit straight!

pretty good drumming though, not amazing but still good, but i really like the cymbal melody around 0.50

  • you gotta listen to the melody in it. he has that many drums so he can play melodically.

  • bullshit- he's a good drummer but when i met him at a live korn concert he said he got them so he could move around his set alot.... and he never practises on pads!!!! he thinks its cool to practice only on a kit...

  • personally i dont like terry bozzio

i mean his rolls are perfect but the sounds dont appeal with my ears

  • Fuck Vic Firth, I like carbosticks ))

  • The most impressive thing to me is how his whole body just moves with rhythm.

  • Or even Liam Neeson?

  • sure this guy has good hands but this video shows nothing with his feet, except for keeping time, or if he can string together his hands and feet while bein just as fast with his hands

  • Jajaja. Vic Firth no #1 #1 #1 #1 #1

  • hahahahahahaha

  • yawn

  • You know.....I don't usually like Bozzio very much. But this groove is sick and I think I just gained alot of respect for the man.

  • i know this will get marked down or spammed, but when his ad for his own stick comes up, read the thing and then add "That's what she said!" to the end. lol.

  • the drums in front of him are toms while the smaller ones on the left are octabands

  • No, you're wrong!

It's not Octobans (without D), Octobans are longer.

    These are Piccolo tom's :)

Check out DW homepage to find out more about them and Bozzio's kit.

  • i dont know why so many people dont like his style. he creates such an original atmosphere its fucking rad.

  • shlempnar, there's a very obvious reason why people don't like his style. Terry Bozzio is a creative drummer and he has a narrative element to his percussive work that flies over the heads of most of the retards on YouTube who can only recognise groove if it's presented to them in the way of the derivative bands they listen to. If it doesn't sound like 2nd grade Danny Carey worship, it's going to be dismissed because it's just not "cool" enough. Basically, they hate him because they got told to

  • thank you bill

  • couldn't have said it better myself.

  • its so.... unconventional.

    but still great.

  • this guy is amazing......but i dont like his style AT ALL.

  • I think it's funny

  • I don't like it....

  • could anyone get this guy some more toms!!!!

  • i love how unique Bozzio's solos are

  • wrong! sure, he's technical and there's no way I'd ever be able to play anything like that, but I wouldn't really want to either... in my opinion it's just boring =/

  • i love how conceited vic firth is

  • that sucks...

    almost fell asleep

  • if you understood at all how much talent that took to play a drumset more like an instrument than a timekeeper then you would see how great this is

  • This may not be the best of Bozzio but he IS an Animal. I had the chance to take a day long seminar with him back in late 80's and still 20 years later I am baffled by some of the tricks he pulled.

  • He has some technik errors...But kind of cool vid.:)

  • i like terry bozzio but this solo wasn't all that great

  • T Boz's kit is massvie. I have never seen a drumm kit with Four full size bass drums. Plus what's with the type of cymbals he uses. Are they customs or just new versions of old models?

  • theyre a bunch of hand hammered and lathed chinas and other effects cymbals

  • I'm not sure about this but it seems like the only thing setting this apart from being flawless is PERHAPS a microscopic tempo increase around 2:07, then it got back to what it should be. Amazing style though, insane rolls!

  • i think i saw it

  • i bet he'd be terrible at concert snare.

  • you would actually be amazed, even though sometimes you can see his technique isn't as classically trained as somebody else he would still find a way to sound very good, he's just been druming too long not to

  • talented drummer but i think this made him look like shit

  • shite

  • Bozzio is just fuckin' twisted-sick!

  • i like in the beggining you can see a hi-hat on the way far left moving. its crazy, lol

  • the cymbal thing right after the bread sounds kinda cool at some parts

  • that drum set is soooo fircken big!!!!!!!
