It's pathetic that the Illinois Supreme Court has become a kangaroo court and overall a joke to the judicial system. Can someone explain to me how the governor can appoint a replacement to a senate seat over the people??? Aren't we supposed to live in a democracy??? Shouldn't their be a one off election for this sorta thing???
From what I understand, and I could be incorrect, the constitution allows for the appointment of a replacement senator by a state governor in lieu of holding a special election. I believe it's for expediency, so that the people of the state can have adequate representation without the delay of partisan bickering, vote recounts, and campaigning.
