Louis CK fan I see. Bill Burr is just as good as Louis CK. George Carlin my favorite comedian of all time Richard Pryor I think is a bit overrated. Eddie Murphy as well. Dave Chappelle is funny as fuck. But See the difference between them is Don Rickles is a roast king, a shit talker. Louis CK, George Carlin, etc all the people you named are observational comedians. They comment on society. Ron comments on just an individual. Different Humour, Different styles.

@scienceatheism I have no issue with funny 'roast' comedians. I think Jeff Ross is hilarious. But I think Don Rickles doesn't say anything witty especially at this point in his career. He just rolls his eyes and mumbles about his old days with Sinatra and directs some unfunny insults at the guy who is interviewing him at the time.

Don Rickles and Robin Williams are the two toughest interviews for any late night host. I think Craig does the best job with Rickles simply because he's not afraid to call him out or make fun of him either. I think Rickles respects that. Other hosts just play along and let Rickles go off

I tried to explain to the silly Letterman/Conan/Kimmel fans that Rickles treats Craig Ferguson as he treated Johnny Carson! Craig Ferguson, despite the ratings, is where the old guard (who's still living) want's to visit! Do you think Conan would ever say his wife had no sense of smell!?!?!?

25 people don't get his humor. I'm as anti-racism as the next guy but come on, Don RIckles doesn't mean any of this, he pokes fun at the jews and he's one himself. Rickles just dares to make fun of stereotypes without feeling the need to add "it's a joke !" right after (Craig does, because deep down he cares, unlike Rickes who just doesn't give a damn), and I'm all for it. He's actually pretty sharp for an 85 years old guy. I liked this interview quite a lot.

Don Rickles was much funnier and actually pretty charming in his last interviews with Craig. They seemed to have a mutual respect and affection. But he's 85, so it's understandable I think that he's gone off track with his jokes.

The problem with insult comedians past their prime is that they become more insulting than funny. Rickles is telling the same joke over and over, just changing the subject and reason for insult with each telling. Compare that to Craigy's humor, which is very spontaneous, original, and always evolving.

@tnoord Well. In my opinion Craig Ferguson is a terrible "straight man". Craig always tries to be funnier than the guests. Look how other hosts treat comedian guests(Carson, Letterman), they mostly step back and try to make the guests look good, not themselves! I think Craigs way of being works very well when the guest is shy or something, then it´s good that he does his "goofy act". But when accomplished comedians and storytellers visit i think he should step back and make them shine instead.

I'd say Mr. Rickles is a great comedian who insults people for different reasons, for the greater value of comic effect, and if you dont get it, you might want to watch something else instead. :) His sole entertainment purpose is to offend people, for heaven's sake.

I have all the respect for Rickles, but his jokes have mostly stayed the same for literally decades now (looking at his old interviews etc). I don't think the majority of his jokes translate well to the modern day audience...for obvious reasons.

The crowd has always been very generous with laughing with Rickles, but if someone else were doing these jokes, I guarantee we'd see a lot more thumbs down. Especially since the racial jokes aren't even that clever.
