just a question..who started the burnout in nascar? my buddy says it was kevin harvick..but i just have a nagging feeling it was done before him..anyone have any comments?
@bluegrassboy2448 It appears that Alex Zanardi was the first to do a victory burnout in the CART series after winning the Cleveland Grand Prix in 1997. ESPN has a good story about the history of burnouts.
@bluegrassboy2448 It was Randy LaJoie who began the tradition of burnouts. He was so thrilled by a victroy in the Busch (Nationwide) Series that he decided to mix it up a little. The burnout was adopted by younger drivers which is why you see more and more drivers doing burnouts. The old school guys don't like it.
