I worked for Computer Image Denver around 79-80 as a director. Dave handled the Caesar animation and Kirk and Phil played with Scanimate. Larry ran the CI switcher and Jan was in the tape room. Lots of key tapes and the IVC 2 inch air guide tape machines were pretty impressive. I did some spots for Modelo Beer that came out nice. Lee told me that in the future everybody would like to edit video. Didn't seem believable at the time as we still mastered to Quad 2".
What's the name of the theme plated from 04:20 to 04:40? I've been trying to know it. That music also appeared on the Universal Studios Florida promo from 1989.
The music in the Japanese logo was actually laid over the Rede Globo animation on the Scanimate documentary by Dave Sieg. It wasn't there originally, I've seen the Dolphin demo reel.
The music we hear in the Japanese logo was written for the Japanese logo. (Though some of the music we hear in these logos wasn't the actual music - the CBN animation actually uses the late-70s sports music for KTVU Oakland/San Francisco, while the first CTV clip uses the old ABC Monday Night Baseball music.)
To those young folks here, this was state-of-the-art stuff back 'in the day'.... Motion Blurs and Glows were something new back then - and created in quite a different way, eh?
And also,at 3:52 ,the ID music for fellow Brazilian TV network Rede Globo in the 1970s is heard, and Dolphin Productions (another Scanimate company) used the music for the ID for Rede Globo because I think it is funky
@Breil123 That I don't remember seeing. I wonder if that particular clip is still around (if at all). And if so, who could have posted it? Speaking of TV Asahi, you should hear the on-air version of the theme. It had some additional sound effects mixed in.
At 3:24-3:33 the WOR-TV 9 New York 'spinning logo in space' ident is seen, and I have that logo video! It was probably also by Image West, and then distributed it to WOR-TV 9 in New York, and then aired the ident in 1978,I think.
Wow, I never knew that the Jacksons' music video for "Blame it on the Boogie" was done by Image West! And if I'm not mistaken, the jingle used in that KCOP station ID was also used by Dolphin Productions. I could have sworn I saw it in Dolphin Productions demo tape.
Who/how was the early Jacksons video done with all the fire and stuff? The video I am referring to was Waa-a-a-y over the top. Huge superimposed water waves, space stuff, sun-fire around the singer's face. 20 years later Sting used some similar techniques in a couple of videos, as if a nod to the orininal "New Agey" thing that first appeared in the Jacksons video. You should find some of these early Jacksons videos, they are way out there, like it is the Beginning of Civilization or something.
The title is "Doyô Supesharu" which in english is translated as "Saturday Special",. With the info I recalled that was a program that showed special events in Japan. It was broadcasted into TV Asahi (Channel 10)
5:20 CTV Special Presentation Logo Jingle is used in VCII Home Video logo in 1983.
