  • 5:20 CTV Special Presentation Logo Jingle is used in VCII Home Video logo in 1983.

  • Old Hanna Barbera Logo (star that writes) used this system???

  • @supermasterPIK The 70's version was done by traditional animation I think.

  • Thanks for the comment! Have you seen the scanimate site at scanimate (dot) com ?

  • I worked for Computer Image Denver around 79-80 as a director. Dave handled the Caesar animation and Kirk and Phil played with Scanimate. Larry ran the CI switcher and Jan was in the tape room. Lots of key tapes and the IVC 2 inch air guide tape machines were pretty impressive. I did some spots for Modelo Beer that came out nice. Lee told me that in the future everybody would like to edit video. Didn't seem believable at the time as we still mastered to Quad 2".

  • @ioph3 Much appreciated. Beautiful!

  • Anyone know the piano piece from 5:53 to 6:12?

  • What's the name of the theme plated from 04:20 to 04:40? I've been trying to know it. That music also appeared on the Universal Studios Florida promo from 1989.

  • At 6:26...what song is that? I've been trying to search for it.

  • @MissingInActionFilms The one before "Lay Down Sally" by Eric Clapton?

  • @Dulcimerist Yeah but I got it now lol Sweet Talkin' Woman by ELO

  • This is AMAZING!

I watched this demo several times,...I gotta say WOW!

    VERY COOL!

  • I'm lovin' this funky 70s-80s Scanimation... Beautiful stuff. Great music too.

  • analog programming...WAOOO

    thous guys are real Wizards

  • Did Image West do any animations/bumpers for the Academy Awards?

  • The music in the Japanese logo was actually laid over the Rede Globo animation on the Scanimate documentary by Dave Sieg. It wasn't there originally, I've seen the Dolphin demo reel.

The music we hear in the Japanese logo was written for the Japanese logo. (Though some of the music we hear in these logos wasn't the actual music - the CBN animation actually uses the late-70s sports music for KTVU Oakland/San Francisco, while the first CTV clip uses the old ABC Monday Night Baseball music.)

  • Scanimate and porno music go hand in hand! ;)

    Really, cool vid!

  • Cool to see the WPHL-17 Phillies baseball intro from back in the day! Thanks.

  • what the hell happened to using strings all the time?! :) Love this.

  • Scanitmate is like the old version of After Effects.

  • To those young folks here, this was state-of-the-art stuff back 'in the day'.... Motion Blurs and Glows were something new back then - and created in quite a different way, eh?

  • Senhores Americanos que Falam Só Inglés: Um dos primeiros logos do canal 13 da argentina, estão no tempo 4:13.

  • Lots of "Star Wars" influences here.

  • And also,at 3:52 ,the ID music for fellow Brazilian TV network Rede Globo in the 1970s is heard, and Dolphin Productions (another Scanimate company) used the music for the ID for Rede Globo because I think it is funky

  • @Breil123 That I don't remember seeing. I wonder if that particular clip is still around (if at all). And if so, who could have posted it? Speaking of TV Asahi, you should hear the on-air version of the theme. It had some additional sound effects mixed in.

  • At 3:24-3:33 the WOR-TV 9 New York 'spinning logo in space' ident is seen, and I have that logo video! It was probably also by Image West, and then distributed it to WOR-TV 9 in New York, and then aired the ident in 1978,I think.

  • This is amazing stuff. Until today, I had never heard of Scanimate. Takes me back-- way back.

  • Wow, I never knew that the Jacksons' music video for "Blame it on the Boogie" was done by Image West! And if I'm not mistaken, the jingle used in that KCOP station ID was also used by Dolphin Productions. I could have sworn I saw it in Dolphin Productions demo tape.

  • Who/how was the early Jacksons video done with all the fire and stuff? The video I am referring to was Waa-a-a-y over the top. Huge superimposed water waves, space stuff, sun-fire around the singer's face. 20 years later Sting used some similar techniques in a couple of videos, as if a nod to the orininal "New Agey" thing that first appeared in the Jacksons video. You should find some of these early Jacksons videos, they are way out there, like it is the Beginning of Civilization or something.

  • @Joeey Its called "can you feel it" by the jacksons, from the Victory Tour.

  • Comment removed

  • It's worth it just to hear all the funk and disco. I wish the big horn sections would be brought back!

  • This only gets better and better

  • Fuck yeah! Awesome.

  • It's just incredible to see that everything was done with no digital processing!

  • Awesome!!!

  • WTF! Is my imagination or have i heard the 1977 Rede Globo's ID in the japanese special intro?

  • Also, could somebody translate the Japanese title?

  • "NTV Saturday Special"

    Launch at 4,27,1979 in JST.

  • The title is "Doyô Supesharu" which in english is translated as "Saturday Special",. With the info I recalled that was a program that showed special events in Japan. It was broadcasted into TV Asahi (Channel 10)
