@aquaculture01 Was done properly, the seal cracked, can you predict 50 years into the future, know anything that is impervious to water, earthquakes, etc.
I guess it didn't dawn on anybody to line the concrete with PLASTIC! Think about it, a flexible plastic skin liner inside the concrete, while it would be unlikely to keep all the water out, would keep more of it out than that pathetic tar substance
They put a Prowler in an aboveground time capsule to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city of Tulsa. They also have a brand new Harley in a time capsule around here somewhere.
@gravedigr12 Supposed to be 50 years from 2007, Funny thing is that the Harley was put in a steel pressure vessel that was supposed to be covered up above ground at Veteran's park at 21st & Boulder in Tulsa. Well, 3 years later, It is not there as far as I know. Probably stashed in a warehouse somewhere.
What were they thinking? didn't they think a few of those cars would still be around to day? I mean I think there will be a few boring Civic's and cooler cars like Corvettes in 2060 that were made in 2009
they were thinking hey let's take a car from today (1957) and fill it with stuff from 1957 and un earth it 50 years later..cause that's what a time capsule is all about.
I remember reading about this in Hot Rod magazine. The time capsule was originally sealed from the weather, dirt and water when they put the car in there. It was the rennovations to the courthouse building back in the 80s that disturbed the time capsule and allowed to fill with muddy water like that.
@Austin4weelinking Your idea takes brains, an underground concrete vault didn't take brains. I mean really "what were they thinking, what did they think would happen?" The guy that created this brainstorm should have been handcuffed to the steering wheel along with others that supported this brainstorm.
This story was in Mopar collectors guide. They buried it in the fifties with a concrete seal but it broke and ground water seeped in and rotted it out. Boyd Coddington and his crew were hired to salvage it but they got sick for some reason. probably the 50 year old chemicals and rust. They used cosmoline to seal the edges but it didnt work as you can see.
Actually, the late Boyd Coddington saw how bad the car really was and called off the whole thing. The water seeped in from everywhere, Apparently there was a main waterline break in the early 70's that could have compromised the seal. The lid was sealed with some kind of tar like substance.
@w4rr10r11 I believe Christine was a fury, not a belvedere they're similar I think, maybe different options or trim levels, looks very similar though.
Sealant won't help the moisture problem, as concrete in itself is full of moisture that would have filled the vault with humidity regardless of the joints. It should have been wrapped in a tarp, then the vault be filled with wax. That'd a dunn it!
if they could just get the engine running, I would love to take my girl out on the town in this baby, who cares if it looks like it came out of the cemetery.
i came from holland to see this car in tulsa (ok) i was disapointed of the condition of the car but i saw that they closed the tomb with concreet plates.. the tomb was like a swimming pool. it was full of water.
for the people that don`t know what this is they puth this car under the ground in 1957 and 50 years later they unvieling it.. with no succes of the car look at mine video`s greetz don carrera
