  • Love Sly.............What a hottie!

  • CoolCat

  • rose , thats all i got to say

  • Larry is playing a Richenbacher bass, one of the ugliest basses in God's creation...

  • There would be no Prince without Sly.

  • If there's a Doctor out there. Sly needs to have a cyst removed. It has become the size of a Basket ball. Right now he's Broke and needs help. However his Talent is still sharp as a tack.

Please help bring him back. He was ahead of his time..

  • Wow Sly is so old school pimp its ridicuolusly sick. Even the white ppl are funky up in this joint.

  • Damn lip sync. Love my Sly though.

  • Sister Rose looks so pretty. But I wanted to be Cynthia when I was a girl. Hehe! But,,,nobody would....BUY ME A FKN TRUMPET! L♥ve n peace alwaze

  • Love Sly, love his music, have all his original wax LP's but geez, a little chap-stick before this performance would have been great.

  • yw!

  • Sly's brother Freddie on guitar and Gregg Errico on drums

  • @cgwolf1 thank you, I never knew the drummers name and I couldn't for the life of me remember Sly's brothers' name.

  • Will someone tell me the names of the other band members. I never knew them. Only Sly, Larry, Cynthia and Jerry, Sister Rose. What is the drummers name and Sly's brother on guitar?

  • @fajfred sly's brother is freddie stone

  • @ppppdmt Thank you so much!

  • It's really great music, Sly, in my opinion, was the inspiration for Prince and Larry Graham for Marcus Miller.

It's a pity that it is'nt live of course, but just faking with the record.

  • women start to chasin - not bullets

  • they look so high.. but still funky

  • @Vavazelus Naw he's in L.A. actually...I was very sad when i read about that :((

  • Now! This great black groove music!!! Fuck the rappers and the sort. They are 0s compared to this.

  • 1:27 the drummer hits the crash cymbal and magically it doesn't make any sound, lol. People freak out about backing tracks and lip syncing these days (Milli Vanilli, Ashlee Simpson), but everyone "played" canned music on variety tv back in the day, with the occasional exception of the vocals. There aren't even any amps on stage. Hell, Sly's guitar doesn't even have any strings on it.

  • Look at those get-ups. How could I forget?

  • Fakename70 : Very amusing!!! I know that he experimented (and some...) with the coca leaf thang.

  • One of the greatest bands of all time. Sly was a true artist-way ahead of his time. Anytime he sang the beat would command that the dancing must begin! Loved him in 1968-- and love his songs even more now. Favorite is 'Everyday People' a song about acceptance of your brother, as we are all ultimately the same. Words to live by!

  • WAY BEFORE THEIR TIME!...IN MY OPINION THE FUNKIEST GROUP EVER!...FOLLOWED BY PARLIAMENT!

  • Legendary! Thanks to the share. In funk we trust lol ;)

  • "slappa da bass, mon"

  • So fantastic!

  • Lookin' at the devil, grinnin' at his gun Fingers start shakin', I begin to run Bullets start chasin', I begin to stop We begin to wrestle, I was on the top

I want to thank you falettinme be mice elf agin Thank you falettinme be mice elf agin

Stiff all in the collar, fluffy in the face Chit chat chatter tryin', ??so stop me in the place?? Thank you for the party, but I could never stay Many thangs on my mind, words in the way

  • I just noticed the beat sounds like Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation at times... so cool!

  • @WriterPoetHumanBeing Rhythm Nation sampled this song ;)

  • @wolfbear Thanks for the info, but that kinda sucks. I thought the beat was original. I mean, considering the message of both Rhythm Nation and Thank You, it isn't really bad thing. However, now I know that musicians sampling music from other musicans goes back to almost the 90's.

  • @WriterPoetHumanBeing Yeah she sampled it. Thats the beauty of real funk, you can just take a small chunk of it and make a hit. Its like the motherload.

  • The funkiest song ever made! FUCK YEAH!!

  • God, extremely raw blow you out of the water FUNK!

  • I am Mice Elf . . . and you're not.

  • Who is the drummer??? Sly was always great. A pioneer in every sense of the game. .They were so lit they forgot to bring their patch cord for the guitars. He kind of makes my nose itch when he flashes that smile with his eyes closed.. FUNK.

  • @Rankinbacca Greg Errico - I think

  • @funkysteve28

Yes, you're correct. HIGHLY influential, but, still, rarely mentioned among the greats of his era.

  • @Fakename70 Is it true that Sly once experimented with cannabis?

  • @dowling1981 "Is it true that Sly once experimented with cannibis?" Oh no, no, no. Sly did NOT experiment with cannibis. He was into FULL SCALE RESEARCH!~ (thank you, George Carlin!)

  • @dowling1981 Not experimented as much as he invented something new with it:):) Like Rick James, Marvin, Janis, Elvis, Jimi,... when it helps you (in a sense) get that high, you can't come down?

I have to add Sly to my list I told my son has an exception for using drugs; they were genuises while blitzed.

  • @MarkAntn - Indeed, some of his anthems were most miltrocillious, and to Trallagh for that. How should they proceed?

  • Who is the drummer??? Sly was always great. A pioneer in every sense of the game. ..

  • hey!!! Bring up da funk boyyyyyyyyyyyy!

  • Sounds to me like live vocals to the studio music track. Great song anyhow!

  • @TechMaven They're definitely singing live probably to a track. But they still rocked it.

  • After a few views of this it sure seems like a "play along"; not live. "Playing" to the recording. Seems obvious to me.

I only watched it because I was alerted to the thinline Tele "used" here. Not, as far as I can tell. Show biz is not new.

  • Such a cool guy.....and still here to remind us of his brilliance!

  • Fantastic performance, I love it.

  • Heroin nasal drip. Love you, Sly. You are the best.

  • Im diggin that Telecaster Sly is playing

  • Yes, it is the funkiest song ever made. No doubt!

  • Still frickin' funky, groovy after all these years!

  • Thanks for sharing! Gotta love the costumes, different time and a part of music history. Am studying modern electric bass and of course, Larry Graham is front and center--the more I study the more I am in appreciation of his genius...

  • 1:18 Rhythm Nation sampled this!

  • Had to look at this clip for my son to work ot what bass Larry Graham is playing - cool song - Funky funk!

  • Nice recovery when he flubs the lines @ 1:36. Coke will make you forget the simpleist of shit.........but this is the original band and I sure enjoyed that era.

  • sly my fav--want that outfit-can someone knit that for me--they should be plugged in though, completely live

  • man, that's so freaking cool. groovy!!!!!

  • YO DEM NIGGAS IS SHO NUFF FINKEE!!!

  • There is so much talent on that stage. The funk in this song... mind-blowing.

  • If the drugs didnt mess him up he could have been very very rich right now

  • The most unfunky guy on earth (Andy Williams) having funkmeister Sly Stone on his show is a revelation. LOL

  • @fumetti like Dick Cavett having so many talents on his show...Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Sly...mismatched host and show, but at least they showcased what was groovin' at the time and thankfully, we have the videos to watch!!

  • far out

  • Thanks for posting this, and it is a great song, but no it's not the funkiest song ever made. The funkiest song ever made is "Hook and Swing" by Eddie Bo (from New Orleans). Check it out!

Wondering - was Sly & the gang actually playing here, or lip-syncing to a recording? I'm thinking they might've been lip-synching -- I don't see any cords or cables connecting the guitars to amps!

  • @GoodNoteDJ I think it was re recorded instrumentally before the airing of the show, and sung live, but the instruments are miming to a playback. It was a common practice like on Sullivan to re record the instrumental track, then sing the song "live" to give the impression it was a totally live song and not a lip sync.

  • @fumetti Thanks for the explanation -- that is interesting, so the instruments were miming but the lips were actually singing!

  • He played so well and looked so fine - please - any musicians out there - keep your minds healthy so you can enjoy the future playing as well as now. He really made alot of people happy - he still does today. God Bless.

  • opcond - i don't wish i cud nort but i sure wish i'd been old enough to njoy it like i'm njoying it now. but that would mean i wud be in my late 50's early 60's now. oh well, juz gotta njoy now.

  • i wish i could snort coke and jam with those guys

  • @opcond That coke gonna give you a heart attack my brother
